Re: 2k17 gameplay is just on another level

Ok guys, I need to know something.

For those who did enjoy 2k17 or 2k18, did you start playing before or after 2K15?

My first 2K ever was 2K3 but I really started to play seriously with 2K7. To me the worst 2K's are 17,21 (next gen) and 18. I mean none of em were bad games (the only bad game was 2K21 old gen), but they were simply.....not 2K. Those 3 are what NBA LIVE should've been, arcade, over the top, casual basketball games. The only "true" 2K on old gen are 2K15 (pre patch 4 ou 5) and 2K20.
That's why I'm asking you. Because most of the players joined the 2K family at the end of nba 2k15 and after, because for the first time EVER......Visual concept gave some tools to the "casual gamers" so they won't quit the game after an hour or because it was too difficult.

What it means is that.....most of the players nowadays never get to experienced what a true 2K really was.

Any version without badges and 100% greens was better.

For me I don’t know I just like the way it plays. The only sliders(for me) that I had to adjust was inside(to reduce paint points)(Only the true elite finishers could finish contested layups/dunks consistently), I turned down pass accuracy to get a few more errant passes for more turnovers), and upped the fouls a bit. Plus there are actual injuries during played games! Maybe too many but that’s better than none.

I don’t abuse the pick n roll. Actually don’t use it at all and just call plays.

I started with 2k5. I gotta agree that the most fun Ive had with 2k was on ps2 and xbox360. Bu Iam also getting older so who knows.

Yeah all the issues mentioned here can be easily adjusted with sliders. I can post mine sometime if anyone is interested. The CPU does double your stars sometimes if one of your guys gets hot, but they are still a hell of a challenge to win. I welcome the double teams because the CPU on my HOF sliders is damn tough and I am usually losing, so it actually gives me a chance to get some open shots for my scrubs who could never in their life create their own shot at the NBA level. Defense is tough, CPU plays extremely smart and moves the ball around like a human opponent. If you don't have a good defensive awareness roster, you will get back cut to death. If you dont have good rebounders and box out, the glass will be the death of you.

I love the game because it is very difficult to win without a very good roster. Out of the box, the defense is definitely too strong and needs to be toned down with sliders, which is a simple fix. the other thing I love about the game is they call tons of fouls and jump shooting fouls are called regularly. Blow bys only happen if you set it up with a good ball handler and chain some moves together. You cannot just get to the rim at will, which I love.

The responsiveness of the controls is amazing to me. Coming from 2k20, it is a night and day difference. You don't skate around either, foot planting feels good. Pick and roll defense is legit too. I am tinkering with moving durability slider up, injuries been happening a bit too frequently for my liking. Other than that, plays great. Been playing a lot the past few days, games are so good, thinking about recording some games and posting them.

              I'd played 2K's but never primarily. I owned 2K5, 2K7, 2K9, and 2K11 but I never played them seriously.

15 was the first one I played seriously. 16 was a lot of fun. I thought 17 was underwhelming but was excited for the future.

I thought 18 was god awful. That game will forever be a dumpster fire imo and I'm still mad I played that game for an entire year.

I loved 19 because I felt defense mattered. I've been underwhelmed since.

I might not get it next year. idk.

Same here. 2k5 was my first one. I loved that game. Ben Wallace cover nostalgia. That Pistons team is one of my favorite NBA teams of all time. No true superstars. Just 5 really damn good starters great at different skill sets.

I still play 2K11 on Steam. I don't know what it is about that specific game, but it's the one that provides me with the most fun.

I haven't bought the last couple of 2K games. My interest did start to die off with 2K17 though not because I found the games terrible but my interest in the modern sports game, in general, began dying at that point with the increasing focus on the Ultimate Team like modes there was just very little to appease an offline player like myself. If I want a 2K fix I just fire up 2K14 on PC with the UBR since its pretty much everything I want out of a 2K game at this point though I do wish it had Player Lock as opposed to Position Lock that is a minor issue. I love that 2K11 to 2K14 gameplay and its the one I invested the most time in so its the style I am most comfortable with.

                      That's just me personally...

TBH I stopped playing early so maybe offline got a bit better with a patch I missed.
I think I had the same criticism (if I'm thinking of the right 2K). I remember feeling like the defense knew how to respond to my moves before they even had a chance to initiate. It was the quintessential "Play video games, not basketball" experience, where many of my basketball/physics-based instincts didn't seem to matter.

I remember 2K18 feeling like the answer to 2K17's muddiness. Everything felt more open - I remember running the break with Jason Kidd and kind of feeling like real life Jason Kidd with how I could dice and kick with aplomb.

The trade-off was that folks learned to abuse the blow-by mechanic and I think this was the year someone uploaded a video of Rudy Gobert blowing past people non-stop, which I'm sure was abused to no end online.

For an offline dude though, yeah, 2K18 was a wonderful experience for me.
