I’m calling it right now, it’s gonna be the most annoying and worst change 2K has made to the shooting/scoring aspect yet. Potentially a ruiner of what may be an actually solid fundamental 2K game this time.

I don’t get how it works. The way you’re describing it sounds like the “meter” will be used for the “fancy dunks” button?

    Edit. Just saw this.

    That’s unfortunate.

I turned off the shot meter and it feels like a new game. After hundreds of hours of playing I swear it feels like I can actually see and “feel” players shoot for the first time. Before all I focused on was the meter.

Genius move by 2K to make us not truly see and “feel” the most epic of dunks players can do, because we’ll be laser focused on a meter to not blow it. Applause.

Maybe they've mapped it to a different input.

If you're in a game where you have to worry about low-IQ basketball plays, chances are they'd happen regardless.

It's because of Giannis and the way he's dunking, I think. They want us to be able to make those statement dunks at the risk of looking like Julian Wright.

Or maybe like a more standard missed dunk:

Not fancy dunks, aggressive dunks. It lets us, not the game engine, decide when we want to dunk.

We've all had instances where we were holding turbo and wanting to dunk, but got a layup instead. This negates that if you choose to use it.

If shot aiming is still baked into the game software anyways, they might as well keep it unlocked, so people who want to use it can.
I couldn't use shot aiming at all last gen. I don't recall why it felt so inconsistent, but something was off with the mechanics. However, I loved the concept and applauded 2K for trying something different.

Aiming felt much better on PS5. There were some struggles along the way, but it ultimately became my primary choice for jumpers, layups, and free throws.

But alas, water is wet and 2K is predictable as ****.

A while back, Mike Wang posted a poll on Reddit asking the community about removing the shot stick in 2K22. The results were heavily lopsided in favor of doing so. Right then, I had a strong feeling that it would be gone, but we didn't get that confirmation until recently.

Lets just say I wasn't happy when I first heard the news.

Question: why is having different control options a matter for debate in the first place?

"Hey 2K community! Should we should remove the x button next year? Let us know!"

No, don't ask these savages anything.

But 2K historically panders to the wishes of park urchins and dribble spammers.

Okay, so there's no shot aiming now? Cool. I guess it is what it is.

Wait, I see the option in the picture! That means it's still in the game, right?!

No? What do you mean they removed it with a patch?

So we can aim our dunks now but we can't aim shots? I'm confused.

          What's going on here?

          I ****ing hate 2K.

          See you on Friday.

I like the dunk meter. I feel like if you want to try and force a dunk on someone you must have more skill than simply pressing the button, right.

Everything I have read has said the meter is ONLY when you press down and turbo which is the aggressive, try to dunk on someone dunk.

You can still press X or the other dunk directions and not get the meter, but you also may not get a definite dunk attempt. I want to see how it plays before I say it is a bad idea.

I'm just being noble, since most people already know what my personal gripe with aiming was. I felt that it interfered with the overall functionality and responsiveness of the RS even if you took it off.

If I'm going to be "stuck" with 2K21's right stick, then I feel like people who liked aiming should have the feature back. No need for everyone to be screwed out of what they like.

Doesn’t holding down + turbo give you more “fancy” or aggressive dunk animations though, or no?

In previous 2Ks, it was the flashy dunk input. In 2K22, it'll be for when you want to dunk on someone, not for windmills, 360s, and the like.

Basically posterizers which everyone cried about are going to become more skill based to pull off.

At least that is what i get from this.

If you're gonna make poster dunks into a mini-game, what's the point of having the ratings in the first place...

All we needed was more consistency in the controls, aka when I Turbo+Shoot I WANT TO DUNK NO MATTER WHAT, MAKE IT HAPPEN, not Oh no there's a guy there I'll do the most stupid layup ever.

All they're doing is giving a bail out to stupid decisions made for clicks on YouTube.

In fact, I would have loved it (probably) if I have a guy with 75 dunk rating, and I "accidentally" try to dunk, and see him try to dunk from the FT line just to fail miserably aka Shaqtin. Would be gold.

Well, it at least looks like the cpu isn’t set to pound the ball inside like it’s been for a few years now.
