    I think I'm confused by what you mean by forced. Do you mean the metered dunks allow you attempt a flashy dunk on command rather than have it randomly occur? Because that's what I want.

    Moreover, as far as I've been able to tell, the meter is the only way to access the controlled rim-hang dunks. In addition, every single lob comes with a meter whether you like it or not.

    If the meter was an online-abuse counteraction, I get it. But we really, really, really need an offline toggle. Nothing about it feels natural or sensible and it turns what should be one of the enjoyable moments of open-floor expression into one of the riskiest plays you can attempt.

    If I want to try windmilling in traffic with Danny Schayes, then let me reap what I sow. But I don't want to have to play a meter-guessing game with Vince Carter in the open floor just because I want to hang on the rim or finish off an oop.

      The meter definitely ruined alley oops. I never attempt them as it’s not worth it to blow an opportunity.

        X button/ Directional stick holds turboing to the rim = The game as you’ve known it.

        You can pretend as if you’ve never heard of the skilled dunk stick. As far as rim hangs, Dunking by holding the stick down and continuing to hold it activates rim hang dunks and hangs.

        These options still allow dunks in traffic in the proper context as well, as they have historically. You can attempt Schayes 360’s to your hearts content….no overthinking or online worries required.

        The alley oop meter however, Cannot be toggled unfortunately. Hopefully an option for those struggling with it is available next year.

          OP here, update on my thoughts:

          The new dunk meter is WAY better imo. The way it looks like the normal shot meter is way easier to locate, pay the necessary attention, its easier to time and that alone mitigates most issues I had with it.

            I get more and more confused with every attempted clarification, haha.

            Are you saying every dunk in the game is available on command and without a meter by using the face button combined with a direction on the left analog stick? If so, what is the point of ever using the meter? Just to make life harder on yourself?

            I've found practice mode/shootaround isn't a great indicator of how dunking plays out midgame. But if pulling the left stick away from the hoop on a dunk attempt (as unintuitive as that'd be since the left stick would also be propelling my player toward the hoop) can result in at least one kind of flashy dunk on demand, then that'd be a great start.

            I'd still have questions about the "two-motion" dunks though. For instance, I thought I saw there was a "flashy hang" dunk that was tapping away from the hoop twice. That would not work with left-stick input. Same for the two-motion flashy dunks, if they're any different from the normal flashy dunks.

            Can posters be attempted on command with the face button?

            On top of all that, we still have the required meter on every single alley-oop.

            Through it all, we can sit here going back and forth speculating what can or can't be done without a meter but there's really one solution that'd make the most sense: toggle or remove the meter altogether for offline gamers.

            Lobs and wide open breakaways (even the ones where players bust out 360's or Eastbays) aren't 50-50 plays in real life and they shouldn't be in offline 2K. I want to be rewarded for that open-court opportunity by being able to enjoy my showtime moment, not to be anxious about whether I'm about to ruin the moment on account of tempting the fate of the dunk meter just because I'm trying to throw up a lob to Kenyon Martin.

              I connect on all my alley oops and still hate it. It requires watching a cartoonish meter during a sim game which I hate. Wish we could turn it off. I've never once played with the shot meter on for the same reason.

                You’re making it harder on yourself than it has to be my man, lol

                Simplest I can make it is that nothing from your end has changed if you are not looking to use the two motion options. Wouldn’t even dive down the rabbit hole of them if it’s not your intention to use the mechanic. File it under “online thing”. It’s not so much a speculation type deal, There just aren’t special dunks locked behind the stick motions. Dunking with the stick or button works as it always has.

                I was just attempting to explain how to execute the rim hangs is all.

                All in all, Options are always better though so I agree there.

                  Man, that’s what I’m trying to figure out. What do the two-motion options do and if I can do the same things whenever I want without them then why would anyone ever want to use them and risk the miss, online or not?

                  Edit: Okay, so looking at the dunk controls again:

                  UP = Two-Hand
                  RIGHT = Strong Hand
                  LEFT = Weak Hand
                  DOWN = Rim Hang
                  UP-UP = Flashy Two-Hand
                  DOWN-UP = Flashy One-Hand
                  UP-DOWN = Normal Skill Dunk with meter
                  DOWN-DOWN = Rim Hang Skill Dunk with meter

                  The question will be: what’s a skill dunk? Is that just another name for forcing a dunk attempt? Because that’s where a lot of confusion comes in.

                  To the broader point, I’ll accept that we at least both support the notion of having more options (say, having a toggle for the alley-oop meter).

                    I'm trying to understand it too. I hate the meter n alley oop nonsense. Especially dribbling then being forced into a shot motion etc. Irks my f nerves. Also want to know how to trigger dunks over layups. I swear the game will deliberately make me layup an miss instead of dunk even with defender trailing. Love the game but hate the forced animations.

                      Yea the alley oop doesn’t seem natural. I can catch bad post lob passes, I can rebound full court shots, I know how to get my hands on the ball, but the meter seems weird. I can get it and I’ll do fine as it goes on because I’ll see the button (imo the button coming up is also kinda arcadey,) but imagine a 2k where you could jump, get the ball, and dunk it w controls. Ooo.

                      Dunk stick lol I only put 80 post d and 80 block iirc and someone finally stick bodied me. It hurts but that’s a good thing. For whatever reason you feel less cheated than when they used to catch a contact ani. I just wish we had more control as the defender to at least foul, but afaik u don’t. I block all kinda dunks so I know when I’m there (not ani blocks,) but it seems like once ppl get a stick opportunity, it’s all them if you’re not pretty far out.

                        Thats the exact reason they put in these Metered Dunks so you can get a dunk over a layup whenever you choose. but i also agree they are too hard to pull off so I rarely ever try in game.

                        now as for those of you who play offline like i do, to get better at the alley-oops turn up the slider, it makes the timing much easier.

                        i turned my alley-oop slider to 54 last year and i never missed an oop unless the CPU stopped the reciever from catching the pass. so easy i turned the slider back down a little later in the season.

                          The dunk meter is more if you want to force a poster or a flashy dunk. I only use it on breakaways with someone defending me who I can clearly dunk over.

                                Yea haha. In a way, someone mentioned anxiety, it’s also unnecessary. It’s weird when it pops and someone taps it, too. It’s like did I mess up or did they stop it?

                                Dunk meter, which I haven’t used cuz I’m a big ( dono if bigs can, even tho freaking real talk we prol need it the most. I’ll take power lay ups moving etc but it’s a sure fire miss if u try to dunk and don’t as a big, unless they give you one of those forever green bars,) at least makes sense. It’s sad that reaction time naturally slows as you age so that agility ladder is like the one thing I’ve never got a 4 on, oop meter reminds me of that, then the big x if you miss. I know it’s just a timing thing and it’s new. Their implementation of lay up and inside timing was rough first year, too. Now it’s very intuitive. This is yr 2 of dunk meter right? Oop meter prol better next year, too.

                                Lol I felt bad for bigs who couldn’t stop oops, but I had a 6’4 defender last year and I was stopping with him, too. You wanna talk about timing, I got like 85% of those, but yea it’s just gonna take reps. Sucks. I still want oops thrown tho even if I flub them. Maybe after about 100 fails it’ll make sense to me.
