The dunk meter killed ally-oops for me. I don't even attempt them anymore.

Re: The Dunk Meter sucks.
I was like that at first until I realized I was doing it wrong. I kept holding the button and trying to release to hit the marker. Once I realized you just have to press the button to stop the meter it's actually very easy.

Not hard at all when u just have to press a button at a certain time. Itd be cooler if it made sense like you jump w tri and dunk w sqr but the timing messes w me a lot. Easy oops are easy but i still am unsure if im missing the oops or they are impossible sometimes when the meter drops off fast.

They are easy, I just can't stand the arcade overlay stuff. Feels like I'm playing NBA Jam or something. Completely ruins the Animation when a goofy looking button prompt covers the play.
Be so much simpler to have this stuff tied to shot meters, so those of us who play without that stuff don't get any overlays at all and everything is based off RP% and nothing more.-----------------------------------------

Re: The Dunk Meter sucks.
Same, better to see oops to cpu. Looks so nice. Does block some graphics, for sure. "Meters" are a bit overrated. We didn't used to have meters at all, you'd be like "I dunno his shot!" Be in 2k practice mode wetting slightly earlys then you switch to excellent and they all brick. Ah, the days.
For the dunk meter, I'm cool, but it seems like it's a bit of a hassle to engage. Isn't there pressure sensitivity yet? Why can't I just press sqr REALLY HARD. lool. When I mash sqr I wanna dunk!! The game can't understand that? In no other situation do I press the button the same. Same with Stick UP.
The idea of 'forcing a dunk ani' is actually pretty bad, tho, but even if you go out like a total wuss, at least try to dunk it. I mean have your dude go up in the air and just release the ball downwards if he's not able to make it.
Again, tho, is a meter really necessary? They wanna put subliminals of NBA team logos in our head w/ all the greens. Better to give people more control at branches in animations, I think, so that you can decide how your dude moves based on how the contact is happening and be more fluid, opposed to just engage ani, engage dunk stick. Hunting for ani spots is a sad reality in this game.
Imagine a world where once you got in the air you had somewhat free control of the ball with the right stick, you go in the air with whatever ani you start with and down would try to pump, directions would try to go that direction, then when you were at the point to dunk you would like jam UP or even just press square.
I think jump shooting, passing, and dunking all need to be looking at moving forward. The game will never really progress until they do those things, but to make them intuitive and high skill cap will be tough. Think, we are using the same dunks, the same passes, the same shots as we were using in Live 95. In a fundamental way, it all operates the same, except for 'better' contact anis. Time to evolve.

Re: The Dunk Meter sucks.
wew double post, but last night I decided I would learn the dunk stick. Haha. I tried it before, but I read a lot of crap about how to do it, and it's not right. SEEMS LIKE you just mash down on RS right after you start your initial move (w stick.)
The thing that I find problematic, sort of, is if I'm on turbo, let's say I just crossed or exploded from a triple threat and I am coming to the hoop, I need to press turbo, use wiggles to get thru people (ye, wiggles still help in going to the rim, switch the ball hand etc) and I'm going direction to rim, turbo... could just press square and dunk it likely with a quick drop, animation or not, but now I gotta totally reverse my momentum and press DOWN on the stick. (It's just weird to be doing everything on the controller FORWARD except for that haha.)
If you break it up into events, it's not hard... the driving, the getting to the spot and starting to take off, THEN you switch into stick mode. However, as a whole thing, the way my brain works, it's like a cut at the end. Doesn't matter. I'm gonna do it. It's not hard. It's just... yea kinda sucky? Same w/ alley.
Not the wrong idea, just implemented right. The best idea 2k ever had IMO was the stick J (til people macro'd it.) Hopefully, they have better ideas next year for both oop and 'force' dunk.
Also need way more hard collisions that result in fouls in air.
