Beaten on the drive to the rim? No worries, we’ll trigger an unrealistic chasedown animation (even though the defender & help D is clearly beaten) and give you the block.

maybe this is the real problem, pre-recorded animations.

it is against the game itself, the simulation.

i always play online and yesterday (yes, in myteam was) i stole the ball with jammer nelson in the defensive 3pt line, and then i press turbo dribbling to the rim.
well, his gobert that was on the screen, recovered like Ben Johnson and accelerate like a lion to arrive at time to block from behind my poor Nelson.

so crazy, so unreal....

I gotta say i really liked 2k22 at the start, but now i don`t know why they sorted this game in this way, ultra weird way.

As you said blocks are super easy, slashing is a rare thing, i wonder is it a basketball game or some shooting simulator, it is far too easy to shoot

I really don`t get the 2k, what they got in minds, their vision about basketball game

The Rec was way more fun imo in 2k21

I think one of the problems with the blocks is badges. Badges seem to ‘holt’ the game and force an algorithm to play out. If the defender has intimidator/rim protector/chase down and has acrobat/fearless finisher some weird calculation has to be made.

I think another culprit is the layup defense and contact sliders too! These create weird warping on occasion.

Blocks are super OP and there are little to no shooting fouls. The recovery speed of the defense is insane and half the time you'll beat a guy off the dribble just to get sucked into a canned animation that results in a blocked shot.

Sliders can fix some of these issues, but unfortunately that isn't an option when playing online.

Yeah lol the chasedown blocks are not fine.

In the NBA, once you get beat going toward the rim, it's pretty much over. The ballhandler will lay the ball right over the basket or straight to the backboard, and will shield off the defender if needed.

In 2k, the offensive player beats the defender, and if the block animation gets triggered, the offensive player won't even get close to the basket to try to score; they'll throw up some junk 5 feet away from the hoop and let the defender recover and send their **** back to the other direction.

This DOES NOT HAPPEN in the NBA, where it's basically a race to the front of the rim/backboard once the defender is beat. Chasedown blocks are very rare in the NBA unless there is another defender in front of the offensive player to make their shot-path less conventional and their shot-timing more predictable.

What 2k really needs to do is introduce help defense into their game. If you don't want to give up an easy layup once you get beat, send help to contest the shot and/or rotate until you're able to reset your defense. That's what happens when you get beat in actual basketball, and it creates almost all the ball-movement and basketball actions that are displayed in NBA basketball.

And unfortunately if 2k doesn't want to emulate real help defense, then we get chasedown blocks and rim protection that don't make physical sense.

I'm sorry, but there was a lot crap over the years that doesn't happen OFFENSIVELY in the real NBA, and it was still in the game. Blocks may be a tad OP, but at least it makes the offensive player more "aware" of their surroundings and the game context instead mindlessly calling screens on every possession or shooting some of the lowest IQ shots possible.

Badges are a fine concept, but they've struggled with where to go from the badge's beginning and ended up creating a lot of badges we don't need that. And on top of that, the badge system has at least been a factor in the struggles to balance the game between MyCareer players and everyone else since the MyCareer players have far more badges than the regular NBA players do.

Everything you're complaining about is defense related which I find funny because there are PLENTY of broken mechanics on offense too.

After chasing 5"7 zig zagging point guards around the perimeter for 24 seconds every possession it's nice to have the ability to make an impact on the defensive side of the ball for once. They've already nerfed the steals by buffing unpluckable, with how op threes are this year I pray they don't touch defense the rest of the year online.

I have my block on 90 rim pro and Chad down on HOF and I’m basically an automatic block from behind. I don’t think that’s realistic at all. At this point my defense is to let ppl drive past me so i can block them

That's kinda the point. I want people to think twice when they try to rim run or shoot low IQ. Yeah...defense can be OP, but I definitely prefer this over what we had for defense over the past years. I know people complain about off-balling in H2H games, but I honestly don't think the AI is that hard to beat if you use freelances and plays.

That is because this game is built around getting greens. Non-greens are not falling on purpose. I kept track of both my and my opponents shots in my online league, and slightly early/late was falling at roughly 23 % when open. Thats on purpose (and really bad....). You need to get greens and greens are much easier in 2k22. I don't like that mechanic, but it is what it is. Top teams in our league are shooting ridiculous numbers this year....
