Pretty much. I don't why people think building a basketball game is easy. NBA 2K is a giant at this point. Trying to build a basketball game to be sim is really a moot point. IMHO, NBA 2K is a pretty good sim game if all the resources were dedicated to that (No MyPark, MyCareer, etc). HOWEVER...the gamer community don't want sim anymore. Keeping it 100%, I was a diehard PNO player, until I started dabbling in MyCareer in NBA 2K20. LOVED it! NBA 2K21 current gen was solid (absolutely hated next-gen NBA 2K21), but I discovered that late. I didn't play current gen until it dropped on Game Pass.

I don't what was THE reason why I decided to play MyTeam this year instead of PNO (I think there was a technical reason actually), but I'm enjoying building my own team based on my card collection, selecting my coach, then going online against other teams. Yeah...I did get burnt out in January when I kept going against the 5v5 meta in all the modes, but I started playing offline more and I only play Limited in MyTeam.

We really can’t even blame Mike fully unless we know his work conditions.

I would not be surprised if 2K has these guys stretched to the thinnest capacity wearing multiple hats because they don’t want to hire more people. They may have told him to focus on 2023 right when this 2k dropped.

The job done on multiple areas of this game lately to me seems to be coming from upper management who care less about the sport of basketball and are mainly interested in maximizing profits. If there was care involved somebody wouldn’t be letting this slide.

Probably because licensing fees and what not far outweigh whatever profits a new developer can make. And even then a game that can compete with 2K’s isn’t even guaranteed. Think about the colossal amount of money that developer would have wasted if the game doesn’t do well.

We all know 2K can buckle down and put out a better game “if they wanted to”. Unfortunately as posted above, they are more than content just reaping the benefits from their myTEAM and myPlayer modes.

I don’t think anyone can put the blame on a single department or person. The 2K organization as a whole should take the blame for the yearly laziness and sloppy work. And as much as I would like 2K to stop the yearly churning out of another new version of 2K every October, it is 2K’s contractual agreement with the NBA they must put out a yearly game in timely fashion every year.

I believe 2K is going to continue this formula for years to come. From a business standpoint, I’m sure they are still making a killing from all the microtransactions

eal2KInsider is spot on in regards to this year being the worst year in a very long time in terms of the roster team thoroughly editing much outside of transactions and counting stats & Intangible attributes.

We have YouTube, Twitch, TikTok, etc and the only person in the company with any sort of presence/influence uses it to build their fake celebrity. They don't have anyone in the company that can generate NBA buzz. A 10-second video highlighting a change to a player would say infinitely more and create engagement on a platform that actually gets used.
