No. And I've never seen anything resembling a hedge defense. It's just there to give us the illusion of a proper hedge defense.

Mike answered a bunch of questions today, if this one applies to CPU controlled players against the User, then I will be over the moon.

We made a change to where if you bite on a pump fake, there's a cool down timer on landing, during which it's much easier to get blown by.

This would be amazing. I was so mystified by 2K's decision in recent years to make it so unrealistically difficult to expose the advantages you'd earned against computer defenders.

That would be nice as well as for the foul calls in a way that you can also get that foul or get away from the defender much easier, thanks for the share..

I think the question to Mike was moreso about “popcorn jumping” under the basket, but either way, it’s a welcome adjustment.

When you could get the CPU to bite on the pump fake, I guess didn’t really see the familiar issue where it was hard to attack afterward on 22 next gen. One of my favorite things to do was attack a close out, be able to take a couple of steps and pull up without exaggerated animations.

Thinking about it, the reduction of the super wide angle of stonewalling should in theory allow easier blow bys after the pump fake even without a cooldown, we'll see though.

That was my thought as well. I'm still sort of in the "Welll let's just see how much they whittled that angle down" camp but I'm optimistic just based off of Czar's acknowledgement of the issue last year alone. It was vindicating to see someone on semi-public record admit there were times where you basically had to point your player to the sideline in order to loop around a stationary or out-of-position defender.

This is great! Like was said above the reduction of window not having to take the wide angle to clear defender jumping will help as well. I posted a video of 2k22 below and I had to go more to the outside to avoid the pump fake magic recoveries into the bump animations. The window being smaller and no magic recoveries after biting on the pump fake will be refreshing & more realistic. Good stuff!

Like my man Smirk was able to do here without any sort of crazy angle

Wasn’t really a sticking point for me but I’m always glad to see them tighten the floor up even more

I remember in 2K18-19 I think, contests would actually hold the offensive player in place, glad we’ve gotten away from that.

That’s perfect and how I envision this year will be. Last year wasn’t to bad, but it did have moments you would get stone walled or hit a barrier like wall where cpu defender would warp into block animation out of the jump/contest at times. Either way a great addition and it could help with closeouts if they had to put in faster rotations in their scramble logic. That would be a great counter for it with long closeouts that are also very realistic to real life.

I hope it sticks and works as well as we hope. I'm not expecting to get around defenders at will but it shouldn't feel like I'm trying to take a tight turn with a mack truck in order to get around a defender.

In this and many instances it is not a basketball discussion. What you see is an advantage created by a move. The reality is the shot system and the body-up system do not share information. Each system has its own producers and engineers. They are separate and distinct systems so it becomes a technical issue that we attempted to solve with a time-out.

This improves it but is not bullet proof. That will take more elegant and well thought out solution.

It takes some time for the system to be mature enough to do really interesting things and share key information to make basketball situations play out more in line with user expectations.

Without the cool-down you might still catch a neutral instead of catching a loss for the dribbler. Remember the AI can react instantly and has perfect stick so your reaction time after the pump fake would have to be lightening fast or you might still get caught.

Even with the delay I have gotten caught in a body-up a few times. We have so many animations and launches that one time-out value may not work the same for every situation. So we tell you what we did to address an issue, rarely will I say yeah that is "fixed" because there are so many variables in game design.
