Picture a typical 3 out 2 in, ball up top, two wings, post at each block. If you call for the left post to set a ball screen for the ball handler to go right, but once it gets set, you push your stick to the left, the defender in the left corner will sprint in and become the help defender. Regardless of whether you actually come off of the ball or not.

There’s a few things wrong with this. For one, why is the input triggering rather than reacting to the play itself? Second, why tf is HE helping? If it’s going to trigger anyone, it should be the guy on the opposite side of the floor.

There is SO much wrong with the 5v5 defense and this issue alone has been in since at LEAST 2K17. Which tells me they have no desire to fix it.

Czar has commented on this and basically alluded to the fact that that’s as good as they can make it, which is a joke. Although they can’t even fix the coach settings menu without crashing the game (also something Czar has specifically said in the past) so I really have no more hope for 2K when it comes to 5v5. I think what we have is what we’ll have for years to come.
Czar holla at ya boy. I dono anything about programming, but I bet I got some good if—thens. They need to mimic the soft zone of nba and good online 5s better.

But yea you just gotta think outside the box. Probably a simple solution. Their offense that you can stop by just standing in a certain place, hands up, is pretty epic, too. Defense just needs to be unpredictable and aggressive. It has its moments, but once you figure out what they are gonna throw, it’s all day. Need more surprises and bait plays. Vs good cpu ( ss or hof) you should have to swing the ball multiple times to get a good shot. The cpu d should be focused on one thing more than anything else: the position of the players and cutting off angles. Then go from there. There should not be any soft spots ( as in repeated soft spots. )

Even if it’s just positions and a script like o, they could set it up to be way nastier.

I highly doubt all of it is purely programming. The help from one pass away has been happening for a decade, literally two console generations ago. There’s no way they couldn’t get that ironed out by now. It’s either not a priority, or they just don’t know any better. I honestly think it’s a combination of both, although that’s just complete speculation.

Help comes from the wrong place in almost every situation. You would think if they really knew how it was supposed to be and aimed to accomplish that, it would work correctly at least a decent percentage of the time. The only time I ever see it work decently well is on a baseline drive. That’s literally it.
