I see plenty of them, almost always after I miss a free throw.

Or... did you mean for the user as well?

      For the user.

I know it's an AI issue with no real fix as NBA 2K is currently built. Either the game cheats to slow you down and speed up the defense, or the player can abuse the AI to get free points every possession because the AI isn't built to handle a human player sprinting away from his defensive spot to get a free dunk on an outlet pass.

But for a game in 2023, there has to be a middle ground. And the fact that people just seem to shrug and be like "yeah it's an issue, whatever" irritates me. Entire NBA teams have built on the concept of transition offense, and it simply doesn't exist in 2K22 or 2K23.

Imagine if you couldn't throw 30+ yard passes in Madden anymore because the AI couldn't defend them well enough. People would hang EA from a tree for that.

This all came to mind after CPU MJ jumped one of my passing lanes in a super organic way a few weeks ago and I realized it was the first time I'd seen something like that in 2K this year despite trying time and time again.

It'd be interesting for their to be so some of "gamble" mechanic/tendency when it came to defense.

Even with that, watch Jordan hesitate at the top of the key rather than go in. He's 3 or 4 speed slower, and the Pistons stop him cold, despite what should be an easy open court dunk.

Yes it's one of the worst cheeses that still exists in the game (like when you get your player ahead of the play and the CPU defender then somehow attaches to your hip all the way down the court) but as you say, it's a game design limitation as the CPU just isn't sophisticated enough defensively.

There a few defensive "hacks" the CPU uses which just come across as lazy game design, such as the shot contest radius forcing misses even when the CPU defender is slow to the contest or out of position, and the way your player will lag/pause a little bit when you catch with an open lane to the basket to allow the CPU to get back into position. And when you pass to an open shooter and the CPU defender reacts to it so early they basically beat the pass to the spot.

I think you hit the nail on the head here. It's pretty apparent that it's a game sophistication/balance issue but, man, I sure wish it wasn't.

It's such a bummer to get out into the open floor running downhill on a single defender backpedaling knowing you can't really attack and take advantage of that as you would in real life.

Unless I'm missing it, when playing MyLeague/MyNBA there doesn't appear to be any way to extend staff contracts during the season or include team options in staff contracts.
