Does weight affect how a player plays? (MJ inaccurate weight)

Asking cause I always find it funny how MJ is always listed at “195 lbs” which was his rookie weight. In the second three peat, he weighed more like 208-215. I often want to change his weight but I don’t want to throw some inherent balance they might have of him off (or change his appearance which I’ve realized changing weight doesn’t do anyway).

On a side note, I’m pretty sure if we used the new nba measurement rule, a lot of classic players would have their heights adjusted just as many modern players have. For example, Jordan isn’t really 6’6, he was measured at 6’4.88 in the Olympics. Kobe was also about 6’4 3/4 according to his wife. Webber once said Hakeem is actually 6’10. Etc etc.

Yes, it matters, especially concerning post up play, finishing at the rim and special animations tied to strength. Sadly it doesn't affect speed however (that's a utter nonsense but this has always been so in 2K).

There are many attributes that 2K should tie more to the gameplay but sadly aren't, mostly because the gameplay is still to animation focused. The most egregious example being the vertical attribute, that doesn't matter at all for finishing at the rim or how high you can jump for pull ups etc. since the height of the jump in those instances is tied solely to the animation played.

Interesting. I’m leaning toward not touching his weight since I wonder if it would create an imbalance between the standard weight and strength rating they gave him.

Wt matters imo but not like str. My guy is skinny compared to some of these behemoths. 7’3 255 (missed 257 for hof box,) I tell people to put at least 70 str cuz ppl dump it and getting silv box out can be fun if u got pts. Or more for brick wall, but it helps a lot on d imo, helps u fight thru picks. 50 str is noticeably bad.

My pf has 91 str, 6’10 7’7 wingspan, whatever wt that is and he plays super strong. He dunks sooo hard.

But I see ppl w more wt and can control them, when people have 99 str tho it’s tough. But then they are either short or slow or both.

So while u wanna get some str n such, it’s not that important If u know how to move on o and d. Mainly you just want to avoid low str animations.

Still frustrating that you have to disconnect from the servers and play about with changing weights to be able to access the full scope of sig options.

When playing offline, you should access to the full range of signature shots, layups and dribble packages.

            Weight definitely affects:

            -- off-ball movement speed/agility
            -- jumping ability for blocks/rebounds
            -- stamina drain/recover rate
-- post move/post defense success rate
            -- screen success/avoidance ability
            -- boxout hold/worm ability
-- clamps wallup animation vs. clampbreaker blowby animation

I tested all that stuff at the beginning of the year when I was trying to decide what weight to give my first created player.

All you have to do is take two players who have the same ratings & badges but different weights into Blacktop mode, and you'll feel/see a pretty big difference in performance between the maximum & minimum allowed weights.

Interesting data. Is it box = high weight, worm = low? It'd be nice. Honestly, I do feel other than the guys who raw THROW me out of the way, it's the skinny dudes who are sometimes able to slip thru my box.

The clamp thing is really important imo because it gives you clamps. Kind of like height/arm length gives you a form of challenger. I have a low weight dude, but I put his str at 70 and he's pretty wily on the perimeter. I was noticing how he never gets tired tho, very interesting. Making max wt dudes is so 2k16... or w/e haha.

There is a base body wt, but I wonder how it is affected by strength. MORE TESTING!? Also, I wonder if my dude having short arms makes him stronger on the perimeter.

But yea, it costs SO LITTLE to upgrade str or to balance out wt to get decent str, that it's crazy people take low str when it means dudes just walk thru them even if they have high defensive ratings. And my big with 35 per D can ride someone all the way up the court.
