I don't know about a gimmick, but it might be more subtle than people expect.

I think of Fieldsense in Madden. It improved certain animations and interactions, but it wasn't a completely different game in terms of look and feel. It's also something that will take a few years to see the full potential of. Changes to the animation system also usually result in some inconsistencies and oddities. Don't be surprised if this is a step forward in some aspects but a step back in others.

Hopefully we are wrong and the improvements are immediately evident from the first trailer. Best case scenario is that the first gameplay trailer drops and people are questioning if it's actually real gameplay footage because the animations and movement are fluid and realistic.

2k has always been superior in animation quality compared to EA. In EA defense though I will say since they started incorporating the fieldsense technology their animations have improved a lot in my opinion.
