    CPU Open Shot Percentage

I have been playing a lot lately and I have noticed that the CPU almost never misses any shot that isn't highly contested. Most recently Desmond Bane set the NBA 3 point record against me with 20 makes. He took 22. Obviously I was a bit ticked but that got me noticing that regardless of the shooter or location, if the CPU doesn't have a hand in their face it's automatic. I started sagging off to see if I was crazy, but unfortunately the CPU just doesn't miss. I then tried lowering sliders to 0 and offensive consistency to 0 also and that had no obvious effect. They'll finish games with 30/35 regularly. I've seen 35/39. Open shots are a lot easier, I get it - but finishing games with 80-90% 3pg is hard to accept.

I've read the CPU makes at a fairly inflated rate, but what I'm seeing is absolutely preposterous. The only thing I've seen make a difference is lowering skill level to rookie. That made players miss shots at what seemed to be a normal rate. Anyone else seeing similar? Is this a possible bug?

    Re: CPU Open Shot Percentage

Just tried Rookie again, default rosters. All CPU shooting sliders at 0. They scored 50 in the first quarter on 93% shooting.

This has to be a joke...

Yeah I've noticed this of late. I play on a superstar base and the CPU routinely goes on extended runs where it'll shoot at an absurdly high rate. If you don't get a strong contest it's pretty much going in.

I had the Kings start out 23/26 against me yesterday (including 11/12 from three), which was fun. Almost entirely jumpshots too.

Also had Maxey shoot 19/21 against me on his way to 50.

I made the mistake of going online to grab the updated Tynoles roster and wowowowowowowow what a mistake. I have the crazy suction animations/defense back (to a lesser degree) and now the CPU shooting percentage is absolutely ridiculous. The CPU misses layups though. Jumpers, however, are a sure thing.

I checked other sites/social media and there's all kinds of talk about shooting percentage but I can't quite discern what's noise and what's real, or what actually pertains to online/offline. Saw some stuff by Wang about shooting changes, but who knows. I have to assume it's a bug. There's no way this can be regarded as good. I mean 11/12 on three's is a tad bit absurd.

Oh yeah and if it's not a jump contest it means nothing.

Just wait till you play hands up in their jersey and get shot clock cheese.

Open shots being pretty automatic is killing the game for me right now. Before when I was keeping game offline it was perfect, some makes, some misses.

Offline, drop their shooting sliders, and drop jumpshot defense sliders. Balances out the open shot make/contested shot miss meta.

                Re: CPU Open Shot Percentage

I think part of the issue is it's very easy for the CPU to generate open shots through off ball screen freelances or the ball handler stepping behind the screen, whereas you don't have that luxury due to how they implement CPU perimeter defense.

I've played around with my sliders a lot and have gotten it to a point where I'm happy with how the CPU is shooting (they still go on ridiculous runs but they're shorter and get balanced out by cold spells) but I do have the CPU shooting sliders a fair way below where I usually would so it doesn't feel organic.

I do wish they would remove that 6-8 foot jump shot the CPU loves to use when driving. That should be a floater or a runner and it shouldn't swish as much as it does. They're the most likely shots to bounce around the rim (although the game has never gotten ball/rim physics right imo)

I already have their sliders at 0. Hence my stance on thinking it's a bug. They will not miss a single shot unless there is a hand in their face. Literally every shot is twine. No hyperbole or exaggeration. Every single shot. Layups miss at a normal rate though.

Is the CPU affected by the shot timing slider?

Shot timing not mattering for the AI makes it feel a bit cheesy at times and needs fine tuning to feel natural, but I'll still take that over how it was before where I'd regularly shrink the floor and the AI would struggle to shoot 30% or less from the floor and be blown out even on the higher difficulties. They were way too inconsistent and less of a threat before.

I can't say for certain but I believe I've seen it mentioned here somewhere that CPU shots are not affected by timing.

                          Re: CPU Open Shot Percentage

Even if you contest the cpu properly the moment the shooter goes up your defender his hands and arms are pulled down automatically THIS i never understood ! So basically even if i contest him perfectly the moment he rises and releases my contest gets pulled down automatically where the shooter still gets an "open look".

Are you saying that when you contest sometimes the animation cancels and therefore the shot is regarded as uncontested?

I've seen a few times on a strong close-out contest the defender pulls back as to not smash into the shooter, which I think is actually pretty cool. Especially if it still results in a foul. I like seeing organic/simulation looking stuff like that.

So i think the every shot being a swish is a bug. I think ive seen if you use real fg%, you get diff types of makes.

The cpu making open shots is not a bug though. 20 games in my franchise and ive bumped my custom sliders up a little to make more open shots. I think that the offensive consistency is the slider that effects this the most.
