Re: NBA 2K25 Gameplay Improvements, Trailer, News Release Schedule and More Revealed

I skipped 2K24 mostly cause I saw almost no change in the player model proportions. It's been an issue for basically a decade, there have been improvements along the way but in general, head sizes are too large, and torsos are too long, causing legs to be too short. Some players look great (Giannis, Jabari Smith), but when I saw the game was dedicated to Kobe and his body/head proportions are off, it felt like a money grab to me so I just stuck with 2K23.

The ProPlay stuff looks great, and I'm sure it'll feel great. I'm getting 2K25, but now I think I need to seriously start thinking of becoming a PC gamer. The player models still look off. Tatum's torso, Derrick White's torso, as well as other guys just still look off. Jeremy Sochan's head still looks abnormally large. Wemby needs to be more legs, less torso.

These sound like minor complaints or nitpicking but when everything is trying to fit into a 6'8 frame, an abnormally sized head will shrink down everything below the neck, combine that with a torso that is longer than it should be and that's how we are ending up with what is basically the default 2K body type where the legs are too short and stubby.

We have next-gen on PC this year for anyone who is bothered by the outdated models.

I think what happened was there were pro play animations surrounded by too many regular animations, and this made the blending look absolutely nuts in some areas. LeBrons layup package for example in 24 will sometimes have a player jump up vertically first and then forward maybe because the preceding animation didn’t put the player in a spot to cover the distance properly, this never happened in 23.

I still see a generic step back from Jamal Murray after a pro play combo, and he pauses his dribble before he does it as he switches to the other animation and I can guarantee you against a user or cpu that’s not lowest difficulty that right there will be clunky. They did that part in slow-mo to mask what happened.

Somebody shoulda asked something about passing, 2k23 passing is better than 2k24.

Hopefully the pursuit angles comment and maybe the spacing feedback information helps the fast break offence and defence.

Was player speed addressed or is Al Horford still chasing down John Wall?

      Edit: they asked about passing
The lob passes leading the teammate to basket over trailing defenders is actually huge if it works in the way it sounds.

This actually addresses some of the passing lane issues if they have addressed the logic on these lob passes, in the half court and on a throw ahead outlet pass if it can go over the defender than passers are gonna have a good time

Looking at the 24 vs 25 pic, players definitely look smaller. It should help with flow and how some actions are ran. Only wierd I noticed is how refs are sized compared to players. It seems like refs look bigger compared to 24. Even on screen, refs looks bigger than players
This is kind of concerning, was the ratio updated to be as accurate as possible, like a 7 footer standing next to the 10 foot rim is still a 3 foot difference or did they size players down based on preference? I hope they went with a scientific approach to this.

This has me more optimistic about the graphics. 2k24 looked flat to me. Like it didn't really pop or stand out. 2k25 looks like a step in the right direction and maybe the best they can do this gen, outside of completely redoing courts, jerseys, body models, player scans, etc.
You guys shouldn't be comparing it to 2k24 which is the worse looking 2K this gen. You should be comparing it to 2k21 the best looking 2K this gen. It's pathetic how much they've downgraded the graphics year after year and you guys completely forget how good it used to look. Im passing on 2K until next gen.

I've been gaming with mods on pc since 2k20. my major complaint with next gen 2k were the bodytpes. It looks like they improved somewhat from 2k24 but they still aren't on par with what global mods can do with old gen. animations look solid though
EA and 2k have the unfortunate task of trying to balance on a tightrope of fun and sim while trying not to fall 10,000 feet to their death. Instead of a safety net waiting down below there will just be angry customers quick to move out of the way and talk of their failure.

The lack.of realistic footplanting is imo the root cause of a lot of the movement issues, especially defensively. This would be a huge positive change.

Body types.and the lack.of variety is a big thing for me as well. They've never really been able to nail the player types that don't fit into a template.

Jokic and Doncic are a great example - they look way too athletic as the game doesn't really capture the "frumpy" body type. Chet and Wemby also, as you can't get the legs and.body to be skinny enough.

Is it just me or did the 2K25 clip have more sliding, but no warping.

looks damn good. bigger courts, saving playbooks, rewarding defensive anticipation....sounds like a solid start, definitely looking forward to watching you guys hoop.

They forgot to resize the refs when they resized the players. 47 there can play center for any of the teams.

It could be that the ref is just closer to the camera.

Not a fan of rhythm shooting, so I'm glad I have the option to keep shooting with the button. I do layups, dunks and floaters with the stick and jump shots with the button, and I don't want to spend time learning how to play otherwise.

The "new" defense mechanics aren't new at all, they're just bringing back the defensive mechanics from NBA 2K9 (and I think they were also in 2k10), which allowed you to shade the ball handler left and right, sag off or play him tight.

I DO like the new animations and I think they will make the movement system a lot smoother than in 2K24. It looks like the footplanting tech has also been improved, which is also quite good and should definitely enhance the on-court experience on both offense and defense.

I'm concerned about the AI, though, and I'm hoping they're saving that for a separate video. On 2K24, defensive rotations were a hot mess. Whenever the AI decided to double team, it would be splash city since the CPU would do a horrible job at rotating and would invariably leave someone wide open. We can't really hype up defensive improvements unless we're assured this has been addressed.

This is coming from someone who's been playing 2K since ESPN NBA Basketball (2K4) and has nearly 200 hours on 2K24, so I'm not hating. I just want to see the game improve and the defensive AI off the ball needs a lot of work which I hope has been done for 2K25.
