Missing Mamba Moments / Jordan Challenge type mode
I've always been a big fan of these modes when we get them since the OG one back in 2K11. It always gave me a good reason to study an old player, watch some of their old games, and try to replicate it. A great way to dip my toe into an era without having to do a full blown season simulation or something using a MyNBA league.

Re: Missing Mamba Moments / Jordan Challenge type mode
I still play NBA 2k23 to this day, and if NBA 2k11 were on PS5 i would play to NBA 2k11 or 12 or 13.
I really don't care of my Jordan era's because i prefere challenge, i think a challenge is more authentic. I do know it is impossible to make a full blown season.
The presentation of the Jordan mode was somptuous, but i was really disappointed because i really thought we will get more Jordan challenge of the first and the second 3 peat compare to 2k11.
In the 2K23 teaser, the dunk on Mutombo 1997 Playoffs and no challenge.
Same thing for Kobe with only 7 challenges...
2k11 has the 5 games against the Lakers, 23 just the game 5.
Magic Johnson free throw OG in 2k11, Wooldridge in 2k11, Jackson with his OG Glasses in 2k11, not in 23.
Not the series during playoffs challenge. It was logic to have more game in Chicago.
Terry Porter head, Ostertag make the illegal defense free throw.
To be forced to modify the 92/97/98 Bulls playbook to get the Bulls 91 which was not great but better with more plays.
Why all bulls teams didn't have the 91 Bulls playbook? or maybe the same with some improvments?
2 pick and roll ball handler for BJ Amstrong in the 1995 Bulls playbook?
Jason Caffey with a 3 pt plays in his priority?
Some jumshots with a weird animations.
I could go one for hours.
Not enough respect of people in the world who can't really like the Jordan mode.
The presentation of the Jordan mode was like a dream with the music, the playoffs logos, some great commentaries, the 80's atmosphere, the classic paint, some animation are great, ASG 88, but so much things was wrong!
The Last Shot challenge is the only challenge which i have played the more those last month or the flu game.
The second one could be the G5 against the Lakers, but the face of Magic Johnson .... compare to what we got in 2k11...
The DN is also bad because there is something wrong in this challenge. Maybe the atmosphere or the gameplay, i don't know what it is but i don't like this challenge.
On a ps5, getting a game which was not really better than 2k11, was a big disappointement.
People around me have never spoken of this game. It is phenomenal!! The come back of Jordan in Video game and no one to speak of it.
I'm very sorry and obsess about having said the wrongs things in the past.
I feel very guilty.Last edited by Jordanmike6; 09-20-2024, 06:06 AM. -

I'm probably in the minority here. But I probably played one challenge from each. Never went farther [emoji38]. It's not that it but good. I have a problem playing the CPU in real games. It's a me problem [emoji23]Hands Down....Man Down - 2k9 memories

Doesn’t make the corporate guys in their shiny chairs money. That’s why it’s not there.

Re: Missing Mamba Moments / Jordan Challenge type mode
Here's an idea I had that I think would be amazing and help all around. If we had some kind of "Legendary moments / History of basketball" type mode in the game as a framework (very similar to Mamba Moments/Jordan Challenges) that could be expanded. Throughout the year, they create new "storylines/scenarios" they could sell as DLC. Dedicate resources to trying to really replicate that team (their offensive sets and defensive strategies integrated) and use it as a mode to teach the new mechanics/systems. These mechanics are available in all game modes so help the game all around.
Dedicate a portion of the proceeds to the NBA retirement fund and pay the players involved directly. Give them more if they're willing to be involved in promotion (interviews on 2KTV, documentary type interviews integrated into the mode to help set up the scenario, etc.). That would help ease licensing costs and give historic NBA players a chance to be celebrated. We also all know how much they love to talk about their careers as we see from all the podcasts popping up left and right...
Give a generous amount of VC for challenge completion within the mode (say $10 worth if you are selling the DLC for $5) to incentive other players to play it. If done right, you could also teach them about the history of basketball and more about the game mechanics which would hopefully lift up the level of play we from most users.
It could turn into almost like the Assassin's Creed "Discovery Tours" we saw in the AC RPG games. Where they almost turned the game into a museum type experience.Comment

Re: Missing Mamba Moments / Jordan Challenge type mode
They’re not my favorite modes but they are fun and when they are available they are always my go to way to introduce myself to the new gameplay features. With 2K11, 2K23, and 2K24 I really made it a priority to play through that mode first so I could be ready to play against the CPU in Association/MyNBA
My initial thought was they were going to have a challenge mode featuring Vince Carter because they were showing his new model in a lot of the screenshots. I was very disappointed when I found out that wasn’t a thingNCAA: Kentucky Wildcats
MLB: Atlanta Braves
NBA: San Antonio SpursComment

Re: Missing Mamba Moments / Jordan Challenge type mode
I would’ve like if they just did something similar to 2k12, but with expanded players. It doesn’t even have to be specific games, but just games in those eras with those same rules (e.g. no 3pt line in the 1970s).Comment
