no shot LaMelo misses the all star game. I think he's even going to have a chance to start because of his popularity

LaMelo was 9th in East guard fan vote last year. He plays in too small a market.

Mitchell or Brunson are going to replace Haliburton w/ the starters. It isn't just fan vote anymore.

He was injured last year and not as good as this year. He was 5th in fan voting for guards when he made ASG his 2nd year. There's just no way he's gonna miss it if he continues playing this well and stays healthy. His popularity surpasses any market concerns, he's top 11 most followed NBA player on Instagram for example.

His popularity surpasses any market concerns, he's top 11 most followed NBA player on Instagram for example.
Fan vote is only 33% of what matters though. The Coaches and Media are not going to have him Top 4 (Mitchell, Garland, Brunson, Lillard)

Fair or not, a lot of Melo's production will be viewed as empty stats since it's not leading to wins.

Fan vote is 50%. Media and players is 25% each. The players will vote for melo, they did in 2022.

LaMelo Voting in 2022 (which was a very weak guard class):

                    5th in Fan Vote (1.2M)
6th in Player Vote (39) - Behind DeRozan, LaVine, Trae, Harden, and Garland.
                    8th in Media Vote (1)

Being behind Garland in the Player vote is notable, given the season he's currently having.

                    Your 2022 East Starters (F/P/M)
                    1.0 DeRozan (1/1/1)
                    2.2 Trae (2/3/2)

In 2023 the scores needed to start were 1.8 (Mitchell and Kyrie)

Even if LaMelo ranked 1st in Fan Vote (which is extremely unlikely in itself), there are too many All-NBA guards now in the East that weren't in the Conference 3 years ago (i.e. he's not going to be able to put up a good enough non-Fan Rank). Mitchell, Brunson, Dame, and Haliburton were all in the West at that point.

Even if LaMelo won the fan vote he's looking at 1/5/5 at best which is only a 3.0.

                      CELTICS (12-3)
Defending champs make a statement, ending Cavs streak, 120-117
                      Tatum: 33 pts, 12 rebs, 7 asts
                      Horford: 20 pts, 7 rebs
                      White: 19 pts
                      Brown: 17 pts

                      CAVS (15-1)
                      Mitchell: 35 pts
                      Mobley: 22 pts, 11 rebs, 6 asts
Garland: 8 pts, 7 asts (3-21 FG), MAJOR OFF NIGHT vs BOS backcourt
Merrill (GS at SF): 6 pts, 19 mins (Okoro DNP and Wade DNP)
Porter Jr: Season-high 15 pts (LeVert DNP)
Jerome: 10 pts (mostly at SG/SF due to depth)

Not having any SFs for a matchup against Tatum & Brown obviously hurt

Both teams with an 8-man rotation, playoff feel to the game.

Saric (GS): 8 pts, 5 rebs (Jokic DNP)

                      Keldon: 22 pts (6-12 3PT) off bench
                      Barnes: 20 pts
                      Paul: 14 pts, 11 asts
Bassey: 12 pts, 8 rebs (5-6 FG), best game of season

                      THUNDER (11-4)
                      Shai: 32 pts, 7 asts
                      Jalen: 27 pts, 10 rebs, 6 asts, 5 stls (13-26 FG, 0-6 3PT)
                      Dort: 6 pts, 12 rebs (2-12 FG)

Time to consider trading some depth for a center. What is Ousmane Dieng doing on the roster if this isn't his time?

Cody Williams: 0 pts (0-0 FG) - By not taking a shot I feel like this was one of his most productive games lol

                      Cody Williams Career by Comparison: 3.8 PPG, 29.0 FG% (18-62), 20.6 3PT% (7-34)

UTA must feel absolutely foolish passing on Knecht (and McCain)

Checking in with the Rookies > 100 mins

The teams that tried to get cute drafting International projects (Sarr and Salaun) instead of Edey and Clingan are not looking great so far.

Not a great showing for the project Wings so far (Risacher, Holland, Cody, Buzelis). Probably not a coincidence the two best shooters have been the most valuable rookies.

Probably not a surprise that the first two second round picks had first round value. OKC probably wishes it had Dillon Jones on a Two-Way instead of Ajay Mitchell.

                          2025 LaMelo (465 mins)
                          20.4 PER
                          56 TS%, 37 USG% (1st in NBA)
                          38 AST% (7th in NBA) / 1.5 A/T
                          3 ORB% / 13 DRB%

LaMelo was at this level last year. Taking more shots (and thus averaging more points) should not be confused with improvement. He commits wayyyyyy too many Turnovers (2nd in TOs per possession) for a lead guard.

Luka Doncic, who has lead the league in USG three of the last four years (lead the league in TOs last year) and gets a ton more defensive attention, for example had a 2.4 A/T last season. (With 62 TS%, 44 AST%, 36 USG% - he can actually handle that heliocentric offensive load).

I don't want to bag on him too much, it's just the bar is much higher now than it was in 2022 (when the Hornets had a positive W/L record, mind you). It would take a few injuries (to other players) for him to have a realistic chance.

Jerome currently leads the league with 72.5 TS%
Only 1 assist but I think that was more just from him cooking Elfrid Payton in his return to the NBA.

Tyson with shades of Josh Hart. Good hustle plays and secondary playmaking.

                            PELICANS (4-12)
Elfrid Payton (GS - signed earlier in day - last NBA game was May 15th, 2022): 11 pts, 8 asts (5-8 FG)
Boston Jr: 14 pts (5-18 FG)
                            Antonio Reeves: Career-high 34 pts (14-25 FG, 4-12 3PT)

The Payton story is incredible, going from the scrap heap to the starting lineup. He probably shouldn't have been out of the league for two years though. Worse PGs have been on rosters. Payton is a good floor general and defender, but never developed a respectable jumper.

In 9 starts Boston has had 3 good games and 6 bad ones. It's time to give Reeves a shot.

Nothing really crazy here, poor defense in garbage time (and poor defense by Ty Jerome in the competitive portions).

I’m not a big fan of the way 2k does roster updates. Jared McCain getting a 10+ overall increase to an 83 with less than 20 games in his career is ridiculous. That would basically make him better than most first overall picks as a rookie
