I think it's because he's on the better team.

Don't forget they hate some players too [emoji1787]

It's the Finals MVP boost. If you recall they pumped his rating up back in June.

I have Brown at an 89 FWIW. He wasn't even All-NBA in a year where 6 guys missed it due to games played.

      Jaylen Brown 2025 (18 games, 651 minutes)
      93 OVERALL
      H/W: 6'6" / 223

87 Pass Perception (mans has never been top 20 in steal rate...)
      86 Help Defense
      95 Intangibles

Not as many problems with the ratings, it's badges that drive OVR this year.

      INSIDE SCORING
      GOLD: Posterizer, Physical Finisher
SILVER: Float Game, Aerial Wizard, Layup Mixmaster

Brown has one Alley Oop this year. He had 9 last year (0.1/36).

      OUTSIDE SCORING
GOLD: Set Shot Specialist, Shifty Shooter
      SILVER: Deadeye, Slippery Off-Ball

      Seems a touch high for a 33% 3pt shooter? (34% over last 3 years)

      PLAYMAKING
      BRONZE: Bail Out

      DEFENSE
      GOLD: Pogo Stick
      SILVER: Off-Ball Pest, On-Ball Menace, High-Flying Denier
BRONZE: Post Lockdown, Challenger, Pick Dodger, Glove, Interceptor

That series against a hobbled Luka man

      ATHLETICISM
      SILVER: Immovable Enforcer

You’re wondering why the same guy who gets his son drafted/forced into his own team way before the poor kid is ready, gets his podcast buddy who coached only little league girls a job as a coach on the most infamous NBA team, and is hardcoded into a 95-96 OVR despite stretches that have him at -111 plus/minus, losing nearly every game during said stretch, missing 20 straight threes, and putting up mid-at-best stats during said stretch, can be an obsession to a basketball fan?

You know what I will never really understand. It's bench players dropping so low they are unusable. The way we rate them and drop them off the face of the earth. Then they get called off the bench and become irrelevant again. Certain players shouldn't drop because they are not getting playing time.

An example I looking at is a Cole Anthony. Cole didn't become bad over night. He came back from injury and been out of the rotation. Now Franz is hurt. But he's playing tonight. And playing just like he normal has.

Cole is playing 10 MPG. He's barely in the rotation this year (other players have just been better / his skillset isn't as needed).

OVR and Player Value is mostly about who is getting PT / Touches and how good they are at it.

But we drop his ratings and remove badges. So so the work his becomes useless until he's called back into rotation. In the mean while we have to wait a month before a change is made. So even playing with Magic right now is a waiting game. Sorry guys, it's just my yearly rant on the way things work. Don't mind me [emoji23]

Why though. He's maybe the 10th best player on the Magic. It's a far cry from when they were a 20-win team.

He got passed by Suggs and Black.

(Also he still has 13 badges, 4th most on team)

CHARLOTTE HORNETS (1-6 since last update)
                    82 (+1) Brandon Miller
                    78 (+1) Cody Martin
75 (+4) Moussa Diabate (Badge Update)
                    73 (+1) Vasilije Micic
                    73 (+2) Tidjane Salaun

Again note how a poor team performance has zero impact on OVRs, players only be going up once they get minutes.

                    Moussa Diabate
                    TOTAL: 3 (+3)
GOLD: Boxout Beast, Pogo Stick, Rebound Chaser

Way too extreme for a player w/ less than 1,000 career minutes under his belt. He's a Two-Way player, not Dennis Rodman.

                    Last two weeks (7 GP, 4 GS): 1.7 PPG, 9.4 RPG, 1.3 APG, 1.4 SPG, 1.0 BPG, 28 MPG (31 FG%, 29 FT%)

On the Year: 19.1 ORB% (Elite) but only 24 DRB% (Good but not Elite)
I know this might be difficult for 2K to understand given the yearly issues this game has but DEFENSIVE REBOUNDING is a bit more indicative of a player's actual rebounding ability since ORB rates are going to fluctuate based on an a player's role / proximity to the rim.

UTAH JAZZ (1-6 since last update)
                      85 (+1) John Collins
                      82 (+1) Walker Kessler
                      80 (+1) Collin Sexton
                      75 (+3) Brice Sensabaugh
                      71 (+1) Johnny Juzang
                      70 (+3) Micah Potter

Sensabaugh got a rotation spot back with Jordan Clarkson sidelined.
                      L2W: 12.0 PPG, 3.0 RPG, 22 MPG (44 FG%, 45 3PT%)

Potter made a GS and had 9 pts (3-5 3PT) and 16 rebounds in 32 mins.

                      -----------------------------------

SACRAMENTO KINGS (2-5 since last update)
                      89 (-1) De’Aron Fox
                      87 (-1) Demar Derozan
                      82 (+2) Malik Monk
                      78 (-2) Keegan Murray
                      75 (-2) Kevin Huerter
                      72 (+4) Isaac Jones

Monk took over as the starting SG.
                      L2W: 21.2 PPG, 7.8 APG, 33.7 MPG (51 FG%, 49 3PT%)

Huerter completely bottomed out and lost the starting spot (though he has been playing better recently)
                      L2W: 4.7 PPG, 19.7 MPG (29 FG%, 21 3PT%)

Murray has also been struggling and is down to 29 3PT% on the season.
                      L2W: 11.0 PPG, 7.1 RPG, 37.4 MPG (39 FG%, 26 3PT%)

Jones has been in the rotation with Trey Lyles injured
                      L2W: 9.0 PPG, 3.4 RPG, 17.7 MPG (71 FG%)

                      ------------------------------

NEW YORK KNICKS (4-2 since last update)
                      92 (+1) Karl Anthony Towns
                      83 (+1) Josh Hart
                      79 (+1) Miles McBride

No notes, Knicks have been super consistent this year. Precious Achiuwa just returned which knocked Jericho Sims out of the rotation.

                      -------------------------

LOS ANGELES LAKERS (2-6 since last update)
                      LeBron James - 95 OVR (-1)

ORLANDO MAGIC (7-1 since last update)
                      89 (+1) Franz Wagner
                      79 (+1) Kentavious Caldwell Pope
                      79 (+1) Goga Bitadze
                      79 (+1) Mo Wagner
                      74 (+1) Tristan da Silva
                      73 (-1) Cole Anthony

They will be tested w/ Franz set to miss the next two months. This likely costs him the All-Star berth he was trending towards, as Games Played will be an issue.

Tristan da Silva started at SF. Jett Howard will be getting his first major opportunity.

DALLAS MAVERICKS (6-1 since last update)
                        80 (+1) PJ Washington - 80 OVR (+1)
                        80 (+3) Naji Marshall - 80 OVR (+3)
                        79 (-1) Klay Thompson - 79 OVR (-1)
                        78 (+4) Quentin Grimes - 78 OVR (+4)
                        76 (+2) Spencer Dinwiddie - 76 OVR (+2)

Marshall, Grimes, and Dinwiddie collectively filled in for Luka and Klay over the last two weeks, which made their W/L record all the more impressive.

Klay just isn't an impact player anymore, he's only cracked 20 points 3x this year.

                        74 (+2) Shake Milton

The Brooklyn Overachievers continue to do their best to raise their trade value.

Martin had an outlier 30-point (10-13 FG, 8-10 3PT) game that will probably stand as the best night of his career.

                        Tyrese Martin
                        TOTAL: 2 (+2)

                        80 (+2) Russell Westbrook

Not super clear to me why Westbrook went up besides some outlier 3pt shooting.
                        L2W: 13.8 PPG, 2.7 RPG, 6.0 APG, 1.5 SPG, 23.9 MPG (44 FG%, 41 3PT%, 65 FT%)

I don't think I realized Naji Marshall broke into the 80 mark. Good for him!! I'm really happy he left the pelican. They were back logged at that position

INDIANA PACERS (3-5 since last update)
                            83 (-1) Myles Turner
                            80 (+1) TJ McConnell
                            76 (-1) Jarace Walker
                            74 (+2) Quenton Jackson
                            69 (+1) Enrique Freeman

25 games in, Haliburton just can't get going, which significantly limits the Pacers' ceiling.

NEW ORLEANS PELICANS (0-6 since last update)
                            86 (-1) Brandon Ingram
                            84 (-2) Dejounte Murray
                            79 (+2) Yves Missi
76 (-1) Jordan Hawkins (Missing from OP)
                            75 (+1) Javonte Green
75 (+2) Elfrid Payton (Waived by team)
72 (-1) Trey Jemison (Missing from OP)

                            Murray since returning (4 gms): 13.0 PPG, 5.8 APG, 31.5 MPG (27 FG%, 24 3PT%)

Missi is one of few Pelicans performing well above expectations. He leads all rookies in RPG, BPG, and Win Shares
                            L2W: 15.4 PPG, 10.4 RPG, 1.8 BPG, 29.3 MPG (64 FG%)

It should say something about the state of the Pelicans that Elfrid Payton was one of the bright spots on a 5-20 team and yet he was waived for financial reasons.

DETROIT PISTONS (2-6 since last update)
                            82 (+1) Jaden Ivey
                            80 (+2) Malik Beasley
                            77 (-1) Ausar Thompson
                            76 (-1) Tim Hardaway Jr
                            76 (+2) Marcus Sasser
                            75 (+3) Wendell Moore Jr

Basically all the guards went up because Cade missed four games.

Barrett has offensive freedom, albeit on a lottery team.

GOLDEN STATE WARRIORS (1-5 since last update)
                                83 (+2) Andrew Wiggins - 83 OVR (+2)
                                81 (-1) Buddy Hield - 81 OVR (-1)
                                77 (-1) Moses Moody - 77 OVR (-1)
                                76 (-1) Lindy Waters III - 76 OVR (-1)
                                76 (-2) Brandin Podziemski - 76 OVR (-2)

Wiggins had some hot 3pt shooting
                                L2W: 19.2 PPG, 4.0 RPG, 2.8 APG, 1.2 SPG, 32 MPG (43 FG%, 45 3PT%, 86 FT%)

For all their depth, Golden State just hasn't been able to find a starting backcourt that they like.

Lindy Waters received a shot at the starting SG position and didn't excel:
                                L2W (5 GP, 4 GS): 6.2 PPG, 21.2 MPG (31 FG%, 27 3PT%)

                                -----------------------------

WASHINGTON WIZARDS (0-6 since last update)
                                82 (-1) Jordan Poole
                                82 (+2) Malcolm Brogdon
                                80 (-1) Kyle Kuzma
                                79 (-1) Bilal Coulibaly
79 (+2) Alex Sarr (OP listed as +1)
                                76 (-1) Corey Kispert
                                75 (+1) Kyshawn George

Brogdon has been starting caliber, which is more than you can say for most Wizards.

Coulibaly has been playing hurt and that has greatly reduced his efficiency (to the point where there's no real benefit to playing him).
                                L2W: 7.3 PPG, 35.5 MPG (26 FG%, 19 3PT%)

Sarr's efficiency has been sort of coming around.
                                L2W: 12.2 PPG, 7.7 RPG, 1.3 BPG, 29.4 MPG (43 FG%, 33 3PT%)
