This is why I always drop everyone's intangibles rating to the minimum with whatever roster I'm using, usually tynoles or ATD.

If intangibles has any affect on gameplay, I've personally never noticed it, and the ratings spread to me is worth it.

Re: 5th Official NBA 2K25 Player Ratings Update - 1.10.25

BROOKLYN NETS (5-5 since last update)

      84 (+1) Cam Johnson
      7 GP/GS: 22.6 PPG, 4.3 RPG, 3.3 APG, 1.0 SPG (54 FG%, 44 3PT%, 97 FT%)
The best player available at the Trade Deadline (with apologies to because Jimmy, whose age/contract/attitude will prevent a deal). Currently out with an ankle sprain, the Nets will be cautious rushing back their last big trade chip.

      81 (-1) Nic Claxton
      11 GP/GS: 10.3 PPG, 7.4 RPG, 1.1 SPG, 1.1 BPG, 28 MPG (46 FG%, 68 FT%)
Inefficient finishing for Claxton, probably just riding things out until the deadline.

      77 (+1) Ziaire Williams
      5 GP, 4 GS: 11.6 PPG, 5.4 RPG, 2.6 APG, 1.0 SPG, 23 MPG (45 FG%, 39 3PT%)
Looks like a rotation caliber player, which is more than can be said of his MEM tenure.

      75 (-1) Jalen Wilson
      12 GP, 3 GS: 8.6 PPG, 3.1 RPG, 30 MPG (32 FG%, 23 3PT%)
      Massive cold streak for Wilson.

      73 (+1) Keon Johnson
      11 GP/GS: 12.5 PPG, 4.4 RPG, 2.4 APG, 1.4 SPG, 29 MPG (37 FG%, 29 3PT%)
Johnson (and Nets management) doing their best to throw games and undo Jordi Fernandez's coaching job over the first two months.

Shooting Guards and Power Forwards will rate too low w/o Intangibles

Backup centers will rate too high and get too many rotation minutes.

        76ERS OVR w/ Minimum Intangibles
        92 Embiid
        85 Maxey
        83 George
        77 Oubre
        77 McCain
76 Drummond - 6th man, will get 27 MPG despite Embiid
        75 Yabusele
        74 Caleb Martin
        73 Lowry
        72 Gordon
        72 Jackson
        72 Council
        71 KJ Martin
        69 Bona
        68 Edwards
        67 Dowtin

        Bucks w/ Minimum Intangibles
        94 Giannis
        87 Dame
        81 Middleton
        79 Portis
        75 Trent
        73 Green
        72 Wright - In rotation
        72 Connaughton
72 Jackson - Not in rotation
        72 Prince

        71 Beauchamp
        71 Rollins
        69 Umude
        67 Smith
        65 AJ Johnson
        65 Livingston
        65 Robbins

There's already a rating spread in the game, removing Intangibles doesn't change that.

The ratings I have are vastly different, likely because I'm using ATD roster. Drummond is at 72 minimum.

That's nice that you like the spread, I don't, and this fixes that for me. Drummond is also getting 14 minutes in my current franchise at that 72 rating.

I.E. another roster went in and changed a bunch of ratings and scales. That has nothing to do with Intangibles.

That's nice that you like the spread, I don't
            95-99 (All-Time): 9 (0.3 per team)
            90-94 (Superstar): 18 (0.6 per team)
            85-89 (All-Star): 34 (1.1 per team)
            80-84 (Starter): 86 (2.9 per team)
            75-79 (Role): 169 (5.6 per team)

85+ Rated Players (Stars): 2.0 per team
80+ Rated Players (Starters): 4.9 per team (5 Starters per team, who'da thunk it?)
75+ Rated Players (Rotation players): 10.5 per team (5 starters + 5 backups per team, whoa nellie)

"Like" has nothing to do with it. It exists (and it's actually balanced).

So yeah, if you remove Intangibles entirely you are going to throw off the balance of the Official Roster (which is what's actually being discussed, not some custom roster).

DENVER NUGGETS (7-5 since last update)

              84 (+1) Jamal Murray
              11 GP/GS: 21.2 PPG, 4.5 RPG, 6.6 APG, 1.9 SPG (46 FG%, 42 3PT%, 93 FT%)
Murray starting to come along - worth noting he's been playing SG with Braun/Porter playing up a position in the absence of Gordon.

              83 (+1) Michael Porter Jr
              12 GP/GS: 20.0 PPG, 5.8 RPG, 33 MPG (55 FG%, 49 3PT%, 76 FT%)

              82 (-1) Aaron Gordon
              4 GP/GS: 9.5 PPG, 4.8 RPG, 2.3 APG, 27 MPG (44 FG%, 36 3PT%)
Gordon missed the last 9 games with a calf injury. He returned to action today.

              81 (+2) Russell Westbrook
              12 GP, 9 GS: 15.2 PPG, 6.3 RPG, 7.1 APG, 1.7 SPG, 31 MPG (55 FG%, 31 3PT%, 63 FT%)
Westbrook becoming the Nuggets starting PG was not on my bingo card for 2025.

              76 (-1) Julian Strawther
              12 GP: 9.8 PPG, 22 MPG (43 FG%, 35 3PT%)

INDIANA PACERS (8-3 since last update)
The Pacers have turned their season around, so it shouldn't be surprising that a bunch of their players all went up.

                88 (+1) Pascal Siakam
                11 GP/GS: 19.5 PPG, 9.0 RPG, 3.1 APG, 31 MPG (49 FG%, 42 3PT%, 68 FT%)

                84 (+1) Myles Turner
                10 GP/GS: 15.7 PPG, 7.0 RPG, 2.1 BPG, 31 MPG (55 FG%, 35 3PT%, 75 FT%)

                81 (+1) T.J. McConnell
                11 GP: 8.7 PPG, 4.4 APG, 1.0 SPG, 18 MPG (47 FG%, 40 3PT%)

                80 (+2) Andrew Nembhard
                10 GP/GS: 13.3 PPG, 4.5 RPG, 5.0 APG, 30 MPG (49 FG%, 40 3PT%, 81 FT%)

Bizarre that Nembhard is still rated lower than McConnell.

                77 (+1) Jarace Walker
                11 GP: 8.9 PPG, 16 MPG (56 FG%, 45 3PT%, 68 FT%)

                73 (+2) Thomas Bryant
                11 GP, 1 GS: 6.5 PPG, 3.7 RPG, 13 MPG (52 FG%, 38 3PT%)
Bryant has been in the rotation since being acquired from the Heat. A bit underrated as a result given his role. Should be in the 74/75 range.

Re: 5th Official NBA 2K25 Player Ratings Update - 1.10.25

                  OVR’s are becoming a joke.

Too many 98 players imo. Problem is, 2K gives lots of guys legacy ratings such as LeBron, Jaylen Brown, etc where they won’t drop ratings enough due to past performance. So, Shai dominates currently this season but has no ring, no MVP, etc, yet gets an MVP/ring season rating. It’s debatable.

LeBron should have a zero help defense rating at this point is arguably the worst defender in the league. The footage of him being completely absent on defense is widely shared and a g league Mavs roster recently exploited that. He’s probably the only 23/7/8 with a middling team record and negative plus/minus (team worst or near it) player in history with a 95. Nevermind huge defensive liability. With him, age works like an intangible rating. The higher his age, the higher his OVR.

Ant is another one getting the marketing boost. 25/5/4 on 43% fg warrants a 92? More importantly, he previously had a 93 when his stats were considerably WORSE. If this was the 2000’s perhaps, when defense was stifling the pace. But in today’s pacing and defensive climate, those aren’t necessarily even 90 OVR worthy. Ant had a string of good games though, that give substance to his OVR.

Finally, Wemby. 95 is easily deserved for where he know he eventually will be. But imo he’s too inconsistent and inneficient especially for his size to warrant that rating just yet. Then again, my same complaints for lack of defense keeping LeBron’s rating at ridiculous levels helps Wemby’s case as he’s a DPOY candidate easily.

It's extremely obvious that you don't actually watch or pay attention to the NBA.

NEW ORLEANS PELICANS (2-9 since last update)

                      85 (+1) C.J. McCollum
                      11 GP/GS: 23.5 PPG, 3.5 RPG, 4.0 APG, 33 MPG (47 FG%, 42 3PT%, 74 FT%)
                      Showcasing for the trade market?

                      82 (+1) Trey Murphy
                      9 GP/GS: 24.7 PPG, 4.7 RPG, 3.3 APG, 35 MPG (48 FG%, 41 3PT%, 94 FT%)
If I had to guess, Murphy probably rates lower because 2K has him at PF rather than SF. His play of late validates New Orleans' lacking desire of extending Ingram.

                      75 (-1) Jordan Hawkins
                      11 GP: 7.9 PPG, 19 MPG (29 FG%, 29 3PT%)
Aside from a 25-point outburst against the Nuggets, just hasn't been effective since returning from injury.

                      73 (+2) Daniel Theis
                      9 GP: 4.8 RPG, 5.4 RPG, 1.8 APG, 16 MPG
                      Re-emerged as the backup center.

DETROIT PISTONS (8-3 since last update)
Don't look now but the Pistons are > 500. They're currently 8th in the Eastern Conference.

Cade surprisingly* didn't go up though, so let's check in on him

                        83 (+1) Jalen Duren
                        11 GP/GS: 10.8 PPG, 9.9 RPG, 2.4 APG, 1.0 SPG, 1.1 BPG (69 FG%, 65 FT%)

                        82 (+1) Jaden Ivey
                        5 GP/GS: 19.2 PPG, 4.2 RPG, 3.0 APG, 28 MPG (60 FG%, 62 3PT%)
Ivey unfortunately broke his fibula and will be re-evaluated in 4 weeks.

                        79 (-1) Tobias Harris
                        11 GP/GS: 11.9 PPG, 5.2 RPG, 2.7 APG, 0.9 BPG, 31 MPG (46 FG%, 38 3PT%, 91 FT%)
Harris' transformation into "just a guy" is complete.

                        78 (+1) Ausar Thompson
                        9 GP, 3 GS: 7.4 PPG, 5.0 RPG, 2.0 SPG, 19 MPG (58 FG%, 17 3PT%, 46 FT%)
Ausar entered the starting lineup for Ivey (as DET can slide Tim Hardaway Jr down to his natural SG). He couldn't hit the broad side of a barn, but his steal rate is immaculate.

                        75 (+1) Simone Fontecchio
                        8 GP: 7.8 PPG, 3.3 RPG, 19 MPG (45 FG%, 39 3PT%, 88 FT%)

                        75 (-1) Marcus Sasser
                        9 GP: 4.4 PPG, 2.3 APG, 14 MPG (33 FG%, 35 3PT%)

Sasser will go back up as his shot levels out, the path for backup PG mins is clear w/ Ivey sidelined.

Well, I wouldn’t be the only one considering the highest conversation surrounding the nba currently is how no one’s paying attention to actual games nor interested in one dimensional 100-threes gameplay.

But that’s not my point. Currently there are 3 players with a 98 rating. Seems overly generous considering OVR’s are clearly determined by past results for several players. Which then artificially boosts those players. Then guys who are given generous ratings now further pile onto the inflated OVR climate.

For the record, judging by numbers, team record, etc., Shai can arguably deserve a 98. But when you have LeBron at 95 with numbers that don’t warrant it, Jaylen Brown with a 93, it becomes a free for all at the 90 rating, forcing them to hand out 98’s easily.

IMO, a healthy rating system that really makes high ratings earned and valued should place Jaylen at maybe an 88. LeBron at maybe a 90. Ant at maybe an 89. Shai at maybe a 97, and reserve the 98 for Jokic.

99? That’s reserved for GOAT seasons imo for players who have a history to boot. For the record, if Jokic’s team had the same record as Shai’s team this year, and being a 3 time MVP and a champion, I’d say he’d warrant a 99.

And for the record, I don’t think Wemby has earned a 95 just yet. Soon, for sure. But yet? He’s not quite there. OVR’s are fundamentally placed for some players, and have hype involved for others.

TORONTO RAPTORS (1-10 since last update)
Raptors have been in total free fall even though they're relatively healthy now. This included a 54-point loss to the Celtics on NYE. Needless to say, a lot of players went down as a result.

                            85 (-1) Scottie Barnes
                            11 GP/GS: 20.3 PPG, 7.5 RPG, 5.4 APG, 1.6 SPG, 0.8 BPG, 36 MPG (49 FG%, 25 3PT%, 73 FT%)

                            85 (-1) R.J. Barrett
                            6 GP/GS: 21.3 PPG, 6.7 RPG, 5.3 APG, 33 MPG (51 FG%, 31 3PT%, 66 FT%)
Between Barnes & Barrett it's clear 2K cares way too much about 3PT% on a week-to-week.

                            81 (-1) Gradey Dick
                            10 GP/GS: 12.4 PPG, 3.8 RPG, 2.4 APG, 1.2 SPG, 28 MPG (39 FG%, 37 3PT%, 88 FT%)

                            79 (+2) Chris Boucher
                            9 GP: 11.2 PPG, 3.2 RPG, 1.0 SPG, 16 MPG (55 FG%, 50 3PT%)
Building his trade value. Tough to believe he's already 32!

                            76 (-1) Bruce Brown
                            5 GP: 5.4 PPG, 18 MPG (38 FG%, 17 3PT%)
Returned from injury and hasn't looked great. Biding his time until the trade deadline.

                            76 (-1) Ochai Agbaji
                            10 GP, 8 GS: 8.9 PPG, 2.9 RPG, 26 MPG (44 FG%, 30 3PT%)

                            75 (-1) Jonathan Mogbo
                            8 GP, 3 GS: 3.8 PPG, 3.0 RPG, 13 MPG (40 FG%, 20 3PT%)

                            75 (+1) Ja'Kobe Walter
                            10 GP, 3 GS: 8.6 PPG, 20 MPG (43 FG%, 40 3PT%)
TOR would probably prefer to give all the backup SG mins to Walter after the deadline.

                            71 (+1) Jamal Shead
                            9 GP: 6.3 PPG, 5.2 APG, 1.0 SPG, 21 MPG (45 FG%, 32 3PT%)

HOUSTON ROCKETS (8-3 since last update)

                              84 (+2) Jalen Green
                              11 GP/GS: 23.9 PPG, 4.2 RPG, 2.4 APG, 33 MPG (47 FG%, 38 3PT%, 81 FT%)
Starting to come on offensively. Shooting percentages are all career highs (ever so slightly).

Thompson moved into the starting lineup w/ the injury to Jabari Smith Jr. He still can't shoot, but it's the only thing he can't do.

                              VanVleet - Thompson - Eason - Smith - Sengun

                              78 (+2) Cam Whitmore
                              11 GP: 12.1 PPG, 3.5 RPG, 18 MPG (45 FG%, 40 3PT%)
Solid scoring since returning from injury.

                              76 (+1) Steven Adams
                              10 GP: 2.8 PPG, 5.9 RPG, 10 MPG (63 FG%, 31 FT%)
Went up just to get his rating on par w/ Jock Landale, who is out of the rotation (who should have went down).

                              73 (-1) Jae'Sean Tate
                              10 GP: 5.2 PPG, 2.4 RPG, 15 MPG (45 FG%, 43 3PT%)
Should not have gone down, maybe due to position change.

                              72 (-1) Reed Sheppard
                              6 GP: 1.5 PPG, 2.2 RPG, 11 MPG (15 FG%, 17 3PT%)
Sheppard fell out of the rotation entirely and was sent down to the G-League. He immediately had 49 points in his GLG debut. He just needs some consistent burn, and for Fred VanVleet to get traded probably.

There were 6 Badge Updates among the first 11 teams (76ers to Jazz).

There have been ZERO among the next 12 teams (Kings to Rockets)

                              Just admit ya'll need help.

Only three shooting badges for Wemby is criminal. These lazy boys are still going through the motions with the NBA's most important player of the next 15 years.

Wemby is a historic shot blocker, possibly the best of all-time in only his second season. A Bill Russell level of impact on his team's defense. Seems like a lock for DPOY.
