    Re: (PS4) JazzMan's 2k17 Fictional Draft Classes

Just a suggestion... I think it would be cool if you inserted a fictional 2nd generation player or relative (nephew, cousin, etc.) every now and then like 2k does this with some players already.

I mean, I think it would be cool to draft some of my favorite players from the 90's kids like a K.J. Malone (Karl Malone) or a Danny Majerle or Shawn Kemp Jr. It doesn't have to be a clone of their parent, you could make them however you wanted the only difference is they have a familiar name and a built in backstory. Of course, there's no guarantee that they will not be a bust as well. For every Steph Curry or Klay Thompson there's a Glen Rice Jr. or Patrick Ewing Jr. It would be a cool side story to follow, in my opinion.

I've actually been thinking about this! I've been brainstorming players for my next class, and I already know that one of the prospects I want to make is Pierre Beaubois, a fictional little brother of the ex-Mav Roddy Beaubois.

There's a lot of different directions I can go with those 2nd, 3rd generation players too. I'll definitely be visiting that in the future.

        Class #1 has been uploaded.

Thanks for the patience guys! I appreciate it. I will be making a few tweaks and adding some more prospects along the way to Class #1, but for the most part, it is finished.

Feedback is appreciated guys, and make sure you drop your stories about the class here. Possibly going to get on the laptop and make a scouting report of the class quick, maybe a mock draft. I'll have to see how much time I've got today.

Yes. I played with the idea last year of having a guy stashed overseas in Spain. Figured I'd try it again with Vasquez. Hopefully it works as intended and he misses his first year, just wish he wouldn't lose a year of his contract and that'd he'd be labeled as a rookie in his first season, but that can easily be changed in MyLeague.

Also, guys, don't be alarmed when you see a bunch of players with 80+ potential. I'm not one of those guys lol, everything is meant to be that high simply for draft purposes. Lots of guys come into the league IRL with loads of potential but never meet it. I wanted to replicate that same principle here.

Began typing up a mock draft last night for Class #1. Including brief player bios of each player, such as a backstory/scouting report, as well as strengths, weaknesses, and NBA comparisons, much like nbadraft.net.

Think you guys will love it. I'm about 8 players deep on that so far, will probably just do the first round, but it'd be cool to get a backstory for everybody.

Took a quick peek at the class. They look superb! I have a feeling that Newble is gonna be the major bust here. It's very tempting to look at the peaks of the players but I was able to hold off

                            JazzMan’s Fictional Class #1
                            Preseason Mock Draft - Lottery

                            ------------------------------------------------------------------

                            1. Elliot Newble – C, Michigan, 7’4”, 284 lbs, Freshman

Player Bio: Newble is a big-bodied, old school big man hailing from Ann Arbor, Michigan. He has chosen to attend the University of Michigan in his hometown, where he has already become quite the legend. Due to his size, Newble dominated the high school scene, growing up to 6’11” his sophomore season in high school. He grew to 7’1” his junior year, and last year he hit 7’2”. Over the summer, this kid grew to 7’4”. He is huge, and many are projecting him to be the next big thing in the NBA, even though he has yet to play a single game of college ball. He is a very raw talent, but there is no denying his size and defensive talent.

Strengths: Very big, imposing figure… Has excellent timing on blocking shots, pretty surprising jumping ability, which allows him to play even bigger than he is… Very strong on the glass, uses his weight to his advantage on boxouts… Could put it altogether and become a two-way star in the NBA, much like Yao Ming before him.

Weaknesses: As with all big men of his size, injuries could be an issue down the line… Not very quick or nimble on his feet, even given his big size… Does have a “gentle giant” thing going on a bit, very soft-spoken and doesn’t play as aggressive as he probably should at times… Could easily assert himself a little more and be an even bigger presence on the offensive side of the ball.

                            NBA Ceiling: Yao Ming
                            NBA Floor: Boban Marjonavic

                            ------------------------------------------------------------------

                            2. Isaac Bishop – PG, UCLA, 6’6”, 201 lbs, Freshman

Player Bio: Isaac Bishop was born in Compton, California, as he joins the ranks of guys like Arron Afflalo and DeMar DeRozan. Bishop is a big-bodied point who has the true point guard mentality than many of the top guard prospects lack these days. His cocky demeanor and seemingly egocentric attitude don’t stop his playmaking abilities on the court, as Bishop is a tried-and-true pass-first point that excels at finding the open man and putting him in a position to score the basketball. Growing up in a tough neighborhood, there’s not much that is going to shake Bishop, as he looks to join the NBA become a star in this league.

Strengths: Very big body for a point guard… Uses his size to his advantage… Very quick with and without the ball, gets up and down the court in a flash… Excellent playmaking skills and court vision, always finds the open man… Has a developing jumper that could become a big weapon in his arsenal, but until then, he relies on drives to the basketball and getting to the line to score.

Weaknesses: As previously mentioned, his jumpshot is developing and isn’t quite ready yet… Not the most consistent finisher inside, occasionally gets to the basket and finds himself wondering what to do next… Has had attitude problems in the past, though he claims that he has become more mature since his high school days… Doesn’t always work hard on defense, sometimes his motor shuts off.

                            NBA Ceiling: John Wall
                            NBA Floor: Michael Carter-Williams

                            ------------------------------------------------------------------

                            3. Raymar Benjamin – F, North Carolina, 7’0”, 221 lbs, Freshman

                            Player Bio:
Benjamin is the latest, greatest product of New York City. Hailing from Brooklyn, Benjamin has been immersed in basketball ever since he was a young child, and it shows with his feel for the game. Raymar has talent that sometimes you just simply can’t teach. And standing at 7’0”, it’s very rare that you come across a player with this combination of size, athleticism, and pure skill. There is nothing that Benjamin can’t do on the court, and if he’s able to become elite at any of those things, he could be the next great forward in the league.

Strengths: Very good facilitator for his size… Long, lanky player with a great frame to bulk up… Uses his length to finish overtop of smaller defenders in the paint… Also uses his length both inside and on the perimeter on defense to generate blocks, steals, and shot contests… Very good athlete for his size, runs the open floor like a gazelle… Has shown promise knocking down the open three when given the chance, though that is far from his bread and butter.

Weaknesses: Not much of a scorer at all… Lacks the aggressiveness and moxie needed to be a high-volume scorer… Has inconsistencies in his jumper, not the smoothest shot in the world, especially off of the dribble… Gambles too much on defense at times, and sometimes suffers mental lapses on that end… With his lanky frame, there are concerns about his ability to endure the grind of an NBA season… Not an elite rebounder, even given his length and leaping ability… Doesn’t have a true position, is he an oversized forward or an undersized center?

                            NBA Ceiling: Giannis Antetokounmpo
                            NBA Floor: Jan Vesely

                            ------------------------------------------------------------------

                            4. Braden Samuel – G, Kentucky, 6’5”, 217 lbs, Freshman

                            Player Bio:
Braden Samuel was the next big thing in the football world, as he was the 4th ranked prospect coming out of high school as a wide receiver. However, Samuel suffered two concussions his Junior season, and decided to move on from the sport as he focused on basketball. And man, did he kill it his Senior season. Leading his high school to a state championship, Samuel became a highly valued basketball prospect, and it showed with his commitment to the University of Kentucky. Playing for John Calipari, expect Samuel to put up some big numbers as a Wildcat this season.

Strengths: Amazing athlete; very strong, fast, and has great leaping ability… Very quick moving side-to-side, uses that quickness well on the defensive end to shut down opposing guards… Already has great defensive IQ, knows what angles to use to cut off ball-handlers and cutters… Crashes the boards well on the defensive end… High energy player, makes his presence felt even when he’s not scoring… Good finisher inside, uses his strength well to fend off defenders.

Weaknesses: Poor shooter, doesn’t possess a very quick form on his jumpshot… Doesn’t possess very good court vision, puts his head down and dribbles fast and hard… Though he gets to the line frequently, he’s had issues knocking down his free throws at a steady rate.

                            NBA Ceiling: Dwyane Wade
                            NBA Floor: Tony Allen

                            ------------------------------------------------------------------

                            6. Martell Jackson – PG, Duke, 6’0”, 191 lbs, Junior

Player Bio: Martell Jackson is a straight baller. He won the National Championship Game for Duke with a game-winning jumper with 12 seconds left in the game, and he did it with ice in his veins. Jackson is a clutch shooter and scorer, and with his small stature, he’s one of the craftiest scorers in college hoops this season. He may not be the best athlete in the nation, but he’s a very smart player and knows exactly how to attack the defense. Coach K has said that with Jackson on the court, it’s almost like sending one of his assistant coaches out there to run the offense. Pretty high praise from a legend in Coach K.

Strengths: Very good shooter, has an excellent, quick release, enabling him to shoot overtop of bigger guards… Very smart player, possibly has the highest basketball IQ in the draft… Has good vision with the ball, finds cutters and uses the pick and roll very well… Reaches high gear very quickly, possesses great speed with the ball… Crafty scorer, can finish with either hand.

Weaknesses: Suspect defender… Has trouble guarding bigger guards, and sometimes can’t keep up with the quicker ones… Not the greatest athlete in the world, has to work a little harder on offense to get separation… Despite his great IQ and leadership on the court, he’s not much of a locker room guy… Pretty quiet kid, doesn’t assert himself on and off the court in situations where he possibly should.

                            NBA Ceiling: Kemba Walker
                            NBA Floor: Trey Burke

                            ------------------------------------------------------------------

                            6. Erik Wright – G, Germany, 6’8”, 196 lbs, 19-years-old

Player Bio: Discovered by the legendary Dirk Nowitzki, Wright is a lights-out shooter, much like his mentor. He set the record for most threes made in an international 20-and-under game with 14 threes made, set when he was just 17-years-old. He has a natural, beautiful looking jumpshot, and he knows how to use it effectively. Nowitzki found Wright playing pickup ball in Berlin in the Summer of 2013, where he saw the young German put on a shooting exhibition. With a little bit of Dirk’s tutelage, Wright has become a top-flight NBA prospect and could be a huge difference maker at the next level, much like Dirk.

Strengths: Beautiful, deadly jumpshot… At 6’8”, not many can check him, as he shoots overtop of smaller, shorter guards with ease… Can flex to the forward spots in a pinch if needed due to his length… Surprisingly good finisher at the rim, can flush it down overtop of defenders thanks to his 6’8” frame and leaping ability… Can create his own shots or work off ball in catch and shoot situations… Pretty willing passer.

Weaknesses: At this point, he’s a pretty poor defender… Not an elite athlete by any means, has to use his skill and shooting ability to get good looks on offense… Almost too lanky in a way, he’s very skinny, and it doesn’t appear that he has the kind of body to put on healthy weight… His drive and finish skills still need to be developed, but they are getting there.

                            NBA Ceiling: Kevin Martin
                            NBA Floor: Luke Babbitt

                            ------------------------------------------------------------------

                            7. Dario Golob – F, Slovenia, 6’11”, 218 lbs, 21-years-old

Player Bio: Not much is known of the Slovenia native Dario Golob, who suddenly burst onto the NBA scene with scouts discovering his play in the Euroleague. Golob is a modern big man who spaces the floor with his three-point shooting, but can also go inside and work in the post a little bit. With his excellent shooting stroke and his 6’11” frame, Golob could become the new star stretch four of the league that many teams are desperately seeking out, after seeing the success of Draymond Green, Pau Gasol, and many others.

Strengths: Possesses an excellent jumpshot that extends out to the three-point line… Can finish well inside despite his skinny frame… Pretty gifted player in the post, has a nice repertoire of moves to choose from when he gets good positioning… Gets up and down the court fairly quickly for a big man.

Weaknesses: Very unknown prospect… His skinny frame enables opponents to push him around and bully him inside, he’s definitely going to have to bulk up in order to be effective… Doesn’t possess great defensive instincts, but he’s not a terrible defender, either.

                            NBA Ceiling: Pau Gasol
                            NBA Floor: Matt Bonner

                            ------------------------------------------------------------------

                            8. Skyler Olson – C, Kentucky, 6’10”, 263 lbs, Freshman

Player Bio: The youngest player in the upcoming draft, Skyler Olson is a rangy big man with an NBA-ready body and great athleticism for a kid his size. He runs up and down the floor with ease, which comes from having two parents who were both former athletes; his mother, Becky Olson, was a guard in college, playing at Kansas State. His father, John, was a 5’11” track star who medaled in many national events, typically in the 100 and 200 meter dash. So, it’s a bit of a mystery where Skyler got his growth spurt from, since both of his parents are under 6’0”, but hey, he’s not complaining, and neither is Kentucky nation.

Strengths: Very strong, physical player… Uses his strength and big body to attack the boards hard… Has impeccable timing on the offensive glass, could become an elite rebounder in the NBA… Has shown the ability to knock down 18-footers off of the pick and pop.

Weaknesses: Needs some work offensively inside… Doesn’t have much of a post game… Has a bit of a polarizing personality, rubs a lot of people the wrong way… Not the smartest defender… Should be taking advantage of his wingspan with more blocks on the defensive end.

                            NBA Ceiling: Derrick Favors
                            NBA Floor: Dwight Powell

                            ------------------------------------------------------------------

                            9. Qing Xue Lu – G, China, 6’2”, 187 lbs, 19-years-old

Player Bio: Not much is really known about Lu at this point. He’s very much a mystery, much like how Dante Exum was in the 2014 draft. However, scouts everywhere know that Qing Xue Lu has a ton of potential due to his offensive game. He’s very, very quick with the ball, and he uses that to his advantage. Though he’s a pretty poor defender at this point in his basketball career, Lu has proven that his offense can outweigh his suspect defense, and there’s a serious chance that this kid has the ability to be one of the best offensive players in the league. At just 18, he dominated the Chinese Basketball Association, putting up 23 points and 12 assists per game. Many are eager to see what he does this season, but either way, he should be one of the top picks in the draft next summer.

Strengths: Excellent, lights-out shooter… His range extends far beyond the three-point line… Able to hit off of the dribble in tough pull-up situations… Great ball-handling skills, gifted passer… Able to see the court well and find the open man in the pick and roll.

Weaknesses: Very poor defensive IQ… Doesn’t move his feet very well laterally on the defensive end… Can sometimes get a little too shot-happy, shooting his way into a slump… Not a very good athlete at 6’2”, which could make it tough to get separation from defenders at the next level.

                            NBA Ceiling: C.J. McCollum
                            NBA Floor: Jimmer Fredette

                            ------------------------------------------------------------------

                            10. Chief Thompson – F, Oklahoma, 6’10”, 253 lbs, Junior

Player Bio: Oklahoma’s Chief Thompson is attempting to become one of the very few Native American basketball players to make it at the professional level. He certainly has the skills to do so. The Tulsa native was born to two Native American parents, who raised him in the same Cherokee culture. Thompson is a very humble, down-to-earth player with a lot of talent and upside. Plus, he has one of the coolest names in all of college basketball. What’s not to love about this kid?

Strengths: Great interior offensive player… Has a throwback post game that is rare in power forwards these days… Has enough size to stretch to the 5 in a pinch… Has shown the ability to knock down shots from midrange if left open… Pretty capable rebounder at the collegiate level, we’ll see if it translates to the NBA.

Weaknesses: Can’t really hit from three… Not a great defensive player by any means… Lacks the quickness and explosiveness to match some of the athletic fours of today’s game… A bit of a tweener due to his old school style and size.

                            NBA Ceiling: David Lee
                            NBA Floor: Luis Scola

                            ------------------------------------------------------------------

                            11. Alan Carter – F, Illinois, 6’6”, 231 lbs, Senior

Player Bio: Illinois star Alan Carter has been a revelation for the Fighting Illini, as the forward took his team to the Final Four last season. After finally gaining control of the majority of the touches, Carter thrived in his Junior season, going for 18 points and 9 rebounds per game. This season, in his final collegiate year, he looks to breakout even further to elevate his draft stock a little bit. Even though he’s a senior, he is still steadily improving every game, and he has become one of the most versatile players in all of college hoops.

Strengths: Great shooting touch, able to hit from all over the court… Has an NBA-ready body… Very physical forward, both on offense and defense… Bullies his way inside and bangs down-low with the big boys… Very smart player on the defensive end, knows where to be and when to rotate… Very good rebounder for his 6’6” size… His great athleticism enables him to blow by slower forwards off the dribble.

Weaknesses: Still regarded as a tweener; is he a three or a four?.. A little inconsistent from mid-range, just can’t seem to find the touch from mid… Kind of a jack-of-all-trades; really good at most things, but not elite at any particular skill.

                            NBA Ceiling: Draymond Green
                            NBA Floor: Michael Beasley

                            ------------------------------------------------------------------

                            12. Lou Harrington – G, Clemson, 6’3”, 208 lbs, Junior

Player Bio: Clemson’s Lou Harrington is one of college basketball’s most prolific scorers, and he’s returning for yet another season with the Tigers. With a 6’3”, 200 lb frame, Harrington is a bit of an undersized combo guard, in the form of a Monta Ellis or a Lou Williams. But the difference here is that Harrington is an absolute deadly shooter. When given any space whatsoever, Harrington will make the defense play by hitting shot after shot. It’s still unknown whether Harrington can make the full-time transition to point guard at the next level, but at the very least, he’ll be able to put the ball in the basket at a high clip.

Strengths: Lights-out shooter… Excellent ability to come off of screens and quickly hit the mid-range or the three… Creates his own shot well, despite his short size… Explosive athlete, able to get to the rim in a flash and rise up and finish over top, as well.

Weaknesses: Not a good defender at this point in his career… There are some concerns on whether his shot-creating ability will translate to the next level and bigger and faster defenders… A volume shooter, gets hot quickly but also shoots his way out of some games… His short size makes him a less-than-ideal two guard in the NBA, but he’s not a point guard either.

                            NBA Ceiling: Jerryd Bayless
                            NBA Floor: Andrew Goudelock

                            ------------------------------------------------------------------

                            13. James Michael Johnson-King – F, Syracuse, 6’7”, 218 lbs, Sophomore

Player Bio: The best name in college basketball, James Michael Johnson-King is a high-volume scorer for the Syracuse Orange, and he has quite the story. JMJK grew up in his grandmother’s care after his mother passed away from breast cancer and his dad passed from a car accident. Johnson-King is one of the most humble players in the upcoming draft. He doesn’t take any of this for granted, and he values his education just as much as he does an NBA career. He has already promised his grandmother that even if he does make it to the NBA before he gets his degree at Syracuse, he will continue to pursue his degree and obtain it even while starting his career in the league.

Strengths: Very smart player; high IQ, knows how to attack the defense… Great athleticism for a forward, very explosive, gets to the cup at will… Can handle the ball and initiate the offense in a pinch… Crafty finisher inside, but he will sometimes just overpower the defense and get to the rim… Has a smooth mid-range game.

Weaknesses: Not a very reliable shooter from behind the arc… Though he gets to the free throw line, he has had some troubles knocking them down; last season he shot just 64% from the line… Not as good of a passer as you’d like from someone who handles the ball as much as he does.

                            NBA Ceiling: Tyreke Evans
                            NBA Floor: Wesley Johnson

                            ------------------------------------------------------------------

                            14. Quentin Malone – C, Georgetown, 7’1”, 253 lbs, Junior

Player Bio: Georgetown Hoya Quentin Malone could have entered the draft a couple of years ago and been a surefire lottery pick, but he instead decided to try and make the Hoya football team, as he didn’t play basketball his sophomore year. He had one of the best freshmen seasons, averaging 17 points and 14 rebounds, as well as 3 blocks, but he instead opted to try football out. Frankly, it just wasn’t his thing. He didn’t see much playing time for the Hoyas as a 6’11” tight end, and it appears that he has now decided to give basketball a try once again. Good choice, kid.

Strengths: Great, big NBA body… At 7’1”, he runs the floor faster than anyone his size… Very strong, has a lot of upper-body strength, won’t get pushed around much in the NBA… Has the potential to be an elite rebounder and defender at the next level… One of the best inside finishers in college basketball.

Weaknesses: Can’t do much of anything outside the paint offensively… Very poor free throw shooter, hit just 44% of his free throws his freshmen season… Not much of a post-up game yet, but it’s developing… Poor pick and roll defender, will get abused often early in his NBA career.

                            NBA Ceiling: Hassan Whiteside
                            NBA Floor: Tree Rollins

I'll definitely use this draft class when the opening day roster drops.

The difference in floor/ceiling for some of these guys is downright terrifying JazzMan lol.

Great report. I was initially thinking of Bishop or Newble but by the sound of everything, it looks like Samuel or Olsen will be the guys I scout during the season. Lots of 2-way potential there.
