Kansas holds off late run by Iowa State to move onto Sweet 16. Senior PF Xavier Thompson had a game high 25 points; he also had 9 rebounds. SG Donovan Harris finished with 22 points and 3 steals. For Iowa State, SG Clint Wolters had a team high 23 points (5-9 3pt).
(4) UCLA 82 – (5) Cal 78
UCLA finishes the game on a 10-2 run to stun Cal. UCLA freshman SG Dejuan Stevens scored 17 points on the night, including 7 during the 10-2 run to finish the game. Cal PF Jaylen Rush finished with 16 points and 6 rebounds.
(3) Tennessee 72 – (6) Indiana 64
Tennessee takes care of Indiana 72-64. Freshman PG Desmond Hill continues his impressive progression throughout the year; he finished with 15 points and 7 assists.
(10) Wake Forest 67 – (2) Gonzaga 64
Wake Forest with the upset win over Gonzaga. Gonzaga was held without a field goal for the last 3:34 of the game. Wake Forest sophomore PF Martavius Ojedeji finished with 17 points, 8 rebounds and 4 blocks.
West Region
(1) Arizona 86 - (9) Missouri 64
Arizona destroys Missouri by 22. SF Kobe McCall finishes with 31 points, and PG Derek Stoudamire hits 6 three’s (22 points) for the Wildcats.
(4) Syracuse 73 – (5) Auburn 71
Syracuse advances on buzzer beater by freshman PG Roman Pierce. Pierce had an off night (4-14) but came up with the big shot at the end of the game to win it for the Oragemen. Auburn Sr. SG Sharif Abdul-Rahman finished with 19 points in the loss.
(11) Miami 70 – (3) Ohio State 66
Miami shocks Ohio State to move on to the Sweet 16. Sophomore PG Ronnie Minard had a career high 16 assists for the Hurricanes; and freshman guard Deion Towns had 19 points. For Ohio State, center Elgin Dandridge got into foul trouble early and ended with 7 points and 2 blocks.
(2) Texas 71 – (10) Virginia 70
Texas edges past Virginia with a driving layup with just under 5 seconds to go by freshman PG Drew Miles, who finished with 17 points and 8 assists. Virginia PF Jermaine Wells had a team high 19 points in the loss.
East Region
(1) Duke 84 – (8) Virginia Tech 69
Duke advances to Sweet 16 with 15 points win over Virginia Tech. Duke center Richard Plumlee fouled out for the 9th time this year. Fr. Center Brandon Clemons finished with 20 points and 12 rebounds; and SF Justin Richmond pitched in with 17 points for the Blue Devils. Virginia Tech freshman SG Desean Cooper had a team high 18 points in the loss.
(5) UNLV 76 – (4) LSU 70
UNLV overcomes 10 points halftime deficit to advance to Sweet 16. Junior SG Josh Cannon had a game high 21 points in the win. LSU freshman PF Kendrick Martin finished with 10 points and 3 blocked shots.
(6) Wisconsin 81 – (3) Xavier 67
Wisconsin upsets Xavier with an impressive 14 point win. PF Mark-Anthony Miller finished with 23 points and 14 rebounds for the Badgers; and freshman SG Lawrence Williams finished with 15 points (7-7 FT).
(2) Florida State 83 – (10) Boston College 64
FSU freshman come get extended playing time in blowout win. Freshman SF Jermaine Holmes scores 18 points; and freshman center Devar Byars finishes with 12 points and 3 blocked shots for the Seminoles.
Mid-West Region
(1) Kentucky 74 – (9) Mississippi State 71
Kentucky holds off Mississippi State to advance to Sweet 16. Freshman PG Calvin Hastings had a rough night shooting (3-10), but did have 11 assists and 2 steals. SF Darius Cook finished with a team high 18 points. Mississippi State center K.J. Howard finished with a game high 29 points and 11 rebounds.
(5) UNC 76 – (4) Fresno State 60
Fresno State center Ace Washington had a big game (28 points & 12 rebounds) but it wasn’t enough as the Tar Heels win by 16. UNC freshman SF Desmond White had 19 points and 2 steals; and PF Matt Sheridan finished with 17 points and 8 rebounds in the win.
(3) Michigan 65 – (6) USC 58
Michigan takes care of USC to move on to the Sweet 16. Freshman PG Carson Hayes finished with a team high 17 points and 7 assists for the Wolverines. USC center J.T. Boothe had a team high 16 points and 7 rebounds in the loss for the Trojans.
(2) UCONN 61 – (10) Florida 55
UCONN beats Florida by 6 to move on. SF Alex Kelley finished with a game high 18 points and 8 rebounds in the win; and Freshman Forward Korrie Jefferson added 13 points and 11 rebounds for the Huskies. Florida PG Desmond Chambers finished with 13 points and 5 assists for the Gators.
