I wanted to copy over my reply from another thread giving my thinking on why more recent young players are being added and what may be happening with other legends etc.
They usually are thinking of two scenarios when adding more recent players to the All-Time teams:
1. They lost the rights to a specific player that previously occupied that roster spot.
2. Young fans can identify with the Zion/JJJ/D-Lo more than if they added the rights to someone from the 50's/60's/70'/80's/90's unfortunately.
I'd love to see them really utilize everyone they can via the NBRPA but the specific player has to not only be a member of the NBA Alumni but have filled out the likeness rights paperwork then it has to go thru the league for approval then finally 2K has to create the art for that player unless they had it previously.
Two other things apply for whenever a player may/may not be included:
1. The player has to have been in the NBA within one calendar year of the newest 2K release. For example, the player has to of been on a roster during the 2018-2019 season. Anything before last season likely means they are not going to be included... hence why you don't see David West, Chris Bosh, Aaron Brooks etc.
2. The player can reach a exclusive deal directly with 2K versus having to be included in NBARPA. That's usually reserved for top tier guys etc.
