Better Than Default (BTD) Roster for Switch

I made this roster for myself to use in MyLeague, but there aren’t many options for the Switch so I figured I’d upload if anyone else wants to use.

UPDATE --- made some changes in red below (actually made them a few days ago, see second page of this thread, I just wanted to updated the top post now).

    Nickname: vetmin
    Roster name: BetterThanDefault - SeasonStart

See below for recommended MyLeague / Gameplay sliders
(note: please ignore the placeholder rosters I uploaded; for some reason when I was trying to correct something in the BTD roster after uploading, it didn’t update but instead saved a separate roster file, so since you can’t delete what you’ve uploaded online, I had to create those placeholders to nudge out the other BTD rosters; the placeholders are just default 2K rosters)

In short, it’s an Opening Night roster with the following characteristics...

Appearances = Warriors are my team, so I input CAPs for Bowman (maybe Da Infamous?) and Lee (cdk), and I also used a CAP for Nunn (something from YouTube) -- I tweaked all 3 a bit -- but otherwise I didn’t bother with CAPs for people; I’d encourage you to just edit on your own any players you need to look right --- UPDATE: CAPs have been included for any players without facescans who are on a 15-man roster (mostly based on cdk's work), didn't bother with 2-way guys except for Bowman and Lee, since I'd already done them

    Vitals =
Height/Weight = Straight from NBA.com as of these past few weeks
Injuries = As accurate as I could make them; note that Iguodala and Josh Jackson are out for Personal Reasons for the year… I leave it to the user when those personal issues are resolved
Contracts = NOT fixed; sorry, can’t do on Quick Edit so I’d rather just fix as I play each team, though I’ll probably only correct in my personal MyLeague, not in the roster file
Positions = I didn’t fiddle with the default position settings for each player, since I don’t rely on them for rotations (I use Advanced Rotations; see below)

Attributes = Default, except in cases where players received notable attribute boosts / nerfs, in which case I just selected the entire attribute row and bumped it up or down, though I did match the 3pt ratings to what is on 2kRatings.com; for players who 2K has only bumped or dropped by 1, I didn’t always edit them, since it’s not so significant --- UPDATE: I ended up undoing everywhere that I unilaterally bumped an entire row up or down, since in retrospect it's a little too indiscriminate; players like Devonte Graham, Paschall, Nunn, Herro, etc. have attributes based on a more recent official roster though, so guys like that who got major boosts should mostly have them here

Tendencies = RyanFitzmagic’s numbers; it was a ton of work just inputting these, so mega mega props to RF for his work in thinking these through in the first place; in some sense this is not the BTD Roster, but the RF Tendency Roster; notes =
Tendencies based on 2018-19 stats; for rookies I eyeballed it, comparing to other similar players on the team or to players they were compared to in their draft profiles
in cases where RF didn’t have a tendency for a particular player due to a missing stat, I input it into his formula using numbers from stats.nba.com
I didn’t edit any free agents, just planning on doing them as needed; note that RF’s spreadsheet should include 18-19 tendencies for most notable free agents, though you may have to fill in stepbacks, floaters, and alley-oops from stats.nba.com

for Shot tendency, I used the formula ((100-X)*0.7)+30, where X = RF’s Passes Made Per FGA --- BIG UPDATE: though it wasn't a problem in game, one big issue I noticed with sim stats is that stars were shooting WAY too little, so I had to adjust Shot Tendency to get certain guys shooting in that 17-23 FGA range. For the most part I adjusted Shot Tendency using the formula:
    — 74 and under = +20
    — 75-84 = +15
    — 85 and up = +10
...where the first number is the original Shot Tendency (i.e., using my initial formula) and the second number is how much I boosted it. For Harden I bumped it up to 99. I didn't boost Westbrook because he steals too many of Harden's shots if I did

for iso tendencies, when the player has too few to have been officially logged, I set them as 0 5 5 10 (elite -> poor)
for Putbacks I used CelticLG’s numbers where available
Drive-R has been universally changed to 50, to encourage players to take what lanes the defense gives them
You MAY want to universally zero out Triple Threat Idle and Aggressive Backdown; in experimenting with sliders I found that this helped in some cases, but after settling on a lightly tweaked ShadyMike’s, I found that with his set I don’t need to mess with these tendencies

Badges = CelticLG’s; maybe worth revisiting for guys who made big leaps and maybe deserve an extra badge or two, but I leave this to the user’s discretion

Sig Shots = Mostly Default; I don’t know if it’s because I use Real Player % for everything, but I tested Woody’s Sig Shots on the Warriors and much preferred default, so in light of that I decided to just leave everything be --- UPDATE: I caved and did sig edits based on CelticLG's videos (+ a few YouTube videos to fill in missing spots). basically this means that most stars have full sig edits, while most other players have just a basic jump shot edit (some end-of-bench guys on most teams have no edits). Weirdly, I still swear by Steph and DLo's official shots, which was the main basis for my not doing sig edits initially, but after testing fatjoe's Switch roster I can't deny that they on the whole they make the game feel a lot better

Rotations = Advanced Rotations by moi for each team; my goal was to create robust rotations that can be used all season long, and not just abandoned after a week when someone gets injured; just do 30-team control and set rotations for all teams as manual so when someone gets hurt or there is a roster change, you can just make the appropriate active <-> reserve swaps, which will wipe out the rotation, then reload the team’s rotation (you may need to save them all as roster files first; don’t know if those files import with the roster) and use Role Mode in the timeline to re-assign the affected player(s)’ minutes; to this end, they are…
    Simple 10-man rotations
On the timeline, no one is assigned multiple positions, the idea being that if someone gets hurt, one can make a 2-second substitution with Role Mode, rather than going into Paint Mode and re-thinking the entire rotation; I explain my reasoning a bit more here: https://forums.operationsports.com/f...il-ps4-87.html

I also made an effort to avoid big group subs, except in cases where they’re realistic

Note that these are not strict Opening Night-based rotations; they’re general ’19-20 rotations based on what teams have been doing in real life so far. Some notes about specific rotations:

    Spoiler

Note that no rotations include injured players (even ones with yellow injuries); if you use these Advanced Rotations, I’d encourage you to tweak them in the case of any major injuries / roster changes, as well as before the playoffs (I might even adjust them series by series in my MyLeague)

    Playbooks = CelticLG’s

Staff = CelticLG / SimWorld CFOs (i.e., Owners), Assistant GMs (i.e., GMs), Head Coaches, and Assistant Coaches, and I did my best to face-match with 2K’s staff heads; also bumped the fake Scouts & Trainers to a B+ minimum; in some cases I changed the identity of the Owners / GMs where there are ambiguities or ownership groups… or in the case of any women, as NBA 2K (pretty outrageously) lacks female staff heads, so Paul Allen and Tom Benson have been resurrected, Jim Buss runs the Lakers, etc.; for all Assistant Coaches who are not auto-generated, I left them be, even if CelticLG lists someone else as the Assistant Coach, as I didn’t want to waste any ‘real’ face-scanned coaches

I ported all of the ATD ‘free agent’ Head Coaches and you can find them on the staff of the earliest classic teams; also on those teams I’ve ported some other staff, though I didn’t bother with everyone CelticLG did, just enough to give a few hiring options out of the box; I put them on the classic teams in the roster file so that you’d be able to quickly find them and edit them if you wish, but if you want them in your candidate pool, just fire them from the classic teams before starting your MyLeague

Just for reference, due to the Staff names bug (i.e., roster file not remembering certain staff names), here are the names of everyone so you can fix any incorrect names after you’ve started your MyLeague; fortunately the bug is just for names; all faces/ratings/etc. should be correct

Listed as Owner / GM / Head Coach / Assistant Coach…
    Spoiler

Points of Emphasis & Coach Settings = AntDoggyDogg’s POEs, and Coach Settings have 100 Zone Usage and 100 Run Plays, everything else default --- UPDATE: changed offensive focus to Play Through Star (to get stars shooting a higher FGA) and when you start your MyLeague, you need to go through and set up the top scorers of each team. Mostly this should mirror who among your team's real-life star players / top scorers have a high Shot Tendency already (i.e., who got the boost I describe above). in a number of cases you may only want to set the top scoring option (like Giannis as the only option for the Bucks, Beal as the only option for Wiz), and leave #2 and #3 blank. I suggest setting Harden as the only preferred scoring option for the Rockets, otherwise Westbrook cannibalizes Harden's FGA too much. Just adjust these settings as needed if it seems like the sim stats are off

MyLeague sliders = haven’t really tested any with this roster, but I plan to roll with Schnaidt’s (with no team chemistry, morale, or progressive fatigue, and 30-team control with manual rotations and front office moves; a lot of this is personal preference) --- UPDATE: uploaded a set titled "Schnaidt 4 BTD Roster" that includes sim sliders that seem to work well with this roster. also a note that I prefer to set contract negotiation difficulty at 0, since I trust myself to give guys a realistic salary, but I don't want the CPU to have guys unrealistically reject reasonable (or even very generous) contracts

Gameplay sliders = I’ve tested a lot and most work pretty well, but personally I’ve gotten the best results with ShadyMike’s current set (see video info blurb here: https://youtu.be/NNAhUziI-AY ), with the following tweaks:

    User/CPU:
    Pass Accuracy: 30/30
    Steal Success: 55/55
    Offensive Rebounding: 15/10
UPDATE: getting a nice flow with Brooke's updates to the movement sliders (i.e., default except USER values are +3) combined with USER speed being down to 50. uploaded set as "ShadyBrooke4BTDRstr", I believe

The first two are just to create more turnovers (I’m willing to live with high steal numbers if it means realistic turnover numbers), and the third is just to fix crazy rebounding; didn’t want to mess with Shady’s sauce too much as it’s doing pretty well for me; note though that I AM using Fatigue, unlike what Shady suggests; seems to work fine to me

    ---

Let me know if you have any questions/feedback on the roster and if you notice any mistakes I might've made, and note that at its core, the value in this roster is like 99% a product of RyanFitzmagic’s awesome Tendencies and CelticLG’s excellent work with the Badges. Coaching sliders, etc. are all things I’m actively experimenting with. Don’t think I’ve figured out some delicate balance with all this stuff and if you adjust anything you’re gonna break it all. Experiment with it… even try global edits to RF’s Tendencies to see what happens (for instance, if after a few games everyone’s FG% is too high, maybe bump up contested shots +5 league-wide). This is just intended as a starting point that is much better than default.

Appreciate the encouraging words. Even though I can't access all the great work you, CelticLG, etc. are doing on the main consoles, it's still fun to read what everyone's doing and get ideas for how to improve the experience on Switch!

Good job bro the Switch is really lacking and I wish we could have collabed together. I just feel like signature moves are very generic, in particular with rookies and new signees. Everybody got the same free throw and pull-up unless you’re a big name. Same with signature dunks and not putting Dwight Howard or other signature dunks that may fit the player, but has a different name. In other words they don’t intermix others sigs with a lot of players and rather do generic dunk packages. My roster is 2K latest ratings with woody’s sig edits which in my opinion make the game play more like real life versus generically. Dunk packages and dribble edits are very bland. An example is most players especially not big names will have all pro 3 or normal 3 instead of going by each edit as different in between the others. Also, for Switch my league means generic draft classes which should coincide with 2k’s rating system in which they patch the game based off their tendencies and attribute edits which is why I leave that the same as 2k’s latest roster update. Correct positions, sig edits, and playbook changes along with the proper sliders and you have a game that plays very much to real life. Maybe next year we can create genius together [emoji1417] I also redid some Caps like Melli, Kenrich and Kendrick Dunn. Also made Rasheed Wallace, Charles Barkley, Reggie Miller, Tayshaun Prince, Chalmers and Chris Bosh for all-time and classic squads I which I went in to customize all of them thoroughly. Check out the latest under The_Doctor. I’m still completing all sig edits bit by bit in order for all to be fully customized. Once I’m done with that I will do playbooks according to ATD on YouTube.

Thanks, man, and yeah I know I'm in the small minority when it comes to signature edits. It's just not an aspect of the game that I feel strongly about, so editing them all would've felt like busywork to me, and after realizing I preferred Steph's and DLo's defaults over Woody's anyway (I play as the Warriors, so I notice their sigs a little bit more), I just felt like for me it wouldn't make sense to go through all of that.

Yeah that's definitely an issue. Even before I started working on the roster though, my plan was always to make a custom draft class player by player. Since I play 12-minute quarters and all 82 games + playoffs, it'll be awhile before I really need the players (I don't really care about scouting, etc., because I like 30-team control and would prefer to make all the picks myself).

That said, the CAPs I find online will of course not match RyanFitzmagic's tendency style, but after inputting his numbers for all current players, I kind of have a feel for the way he scales everything, and my plan for each player is to see who scouts in real life are comparing him to, then use RyanFitzmagic's tendencies for that player, but tweaking them as needed to reflect special skills / weaknesses of the draft player. Sounds tedious, but I only need to do like 3-4 each week to have it done by the time I'll need it. Attributes are not an issue since I use default.

Nice. Yeah, amidst all the garbage in the user uploads for Switch, I'd already spotted your nickname awhile ago, as I recognized it from OS. I loaded it a few times just to take a look around, but now that I'm more aware of what you're doing with it I'll give it some play. How far into the sig edits are you? What teams should I test to see both squads with Woody's sigs?

And yeah let's reconnect for 2k21. Even if there are certain things we might want to do differently, there's probably a lot of common ground that we could cover a lot quicker working together (for instance, maybe while you're getting all the sigs right, I could be doing Badges, Team Staff, etc.). Might even be kind of cool at the end having different flavored rosters to try out, in case one or the other works better with this or that slider set. More options

P.S. Do you know if positions matter for anything other than for the CPU's rotation logic and for determining OVR? If I weren't using advanced rotations, I would've absolutely re-done a lot of the positions, but since I don't rely on positions for that and also feel like OVR is pretty OK (mostly cosmetic anyway), it just felt irrelevant to me.

You can use pretty much any team though I am now brushing through all teams trying to do signature moves from a lot of Woody’s 2k18 vids and from stuff off of YouTube that I feel is better than what I have. I am all about the eye test and then I go into cpu vs cpu and watch the shots as the cpu produces it. Was watching the Bucks vs Lakers and it was an absolute blast, check it out along with the alternated shady mike sliders I uploaded to 2kshare [emoji1417]

Re: Better Than Default (BTD) Roster for Switch

Also certain positions I leave and others I change for furture references. An example is Lebron is a pg but he is a sf so I leave him as such, but Luka is a pg, not a sf or sg so I put him as such. I just make sure Lebron is the only one that is the play initiator other than Rondo whom I start . Other reasons could be if a player gets traded in a franchise let’s say, are they that position to cater to the teams needs or are they primarily this particular position other than for that team. If that’s the case I change position and if it changes rating I may up the (I forget the name next to potential) to make up the difference. I gotta work on the Clippers a bit more, but I just added badges and new kicks to Vanfleet along with headbands for people like House, Richardson and Mills. Still working on Vanfleet’s shot as well.

Re: Better Than Default (BTD) Roster for Switch

Thanks and sorry for the slow reply. I updated the roster and in replying i also wanted to detail the updates, but I was having computer troubles and it’s a pain to type on the phone! Nevertheless im doing so anyway because my computer is straight up busted...

First, i uploaded a MyLeague slider set titled “Schnaidt 4 BTD Roster,” which is just Schnaidts sliders tweaked for my roster. Most things are untouched. Some things are personal preference, like quarter length, etc. i also zeroed out progressive fatigue, chemistry, morale, and contract negotiation difficulty because i dont like how they work. Re: contracts: im not worried about unrealistically low contracts, i do 30 team control and try to be realistic, i just dont want the cpu blocking me from creating a realistic contract / extension (like markieff morris demanding the max or something)

The sim sliders are very important for getting realistic stats. I used JEDL as a base then tweaked from there. The only things i couldnt fix with the sliders were slightly high rebounding (im just gonna live with it; i feel like the only way i can fix it is by breaking other things) and the fact that the sim engine interpreted the roster in such a way that star players were shooting WAY too little, even with Shot Distribution maxed out.

To fix star player FGA i had to go edit the roster itself, as follows:

                  - Set all teams to Play Through Star
                  - Bumped up Shot Tendency for most guys who are shooting 16-17+ FGA per game this season. For the most part i used the formula:
                  — 74 and under = +20
                  — 75-84 = +15
                  — 85 and up = +10
...where the first number is the original Shot Tendency and the second number is how much I boosted it

Also, in MyLeague itself you need to set each team’s scoring options. Note that for Harden I maxed out his Shot Tendency and also made him the only scoring option in the Rockets, because otherwise Westbrook cannibalizes his FGA too much

By doing all these things I was able to get good numbers, but of course changing Shot Tendency affects the gameplay, which i had been happy with. Indeed, I subsequently played the clippers and kawhi shot 9 times in the first quarter! In a way though, in real life if you dont actively gameplan and specifically try to shut the other teams star(s) down (which i wasnt), they can punish you like that, so maybe thats more realistic anyway

                  Additional Updates:

Added CAPs for anyone on the 15 man roster without a facescan. Not gonna bother with 2way guys (except bowman and lee, since i already did them). Fatjoe: if you wanna steal any of these for your roster, its fine by me. Theyre mostly cdk, except a couple i found on youtube (terence davis and melli). I didnt edit any their sig shots, just face

Adjusted Touches for some guys, like Luka, Porzingis, and Westbrook

Still no sig shots, but imma give your roster a go and maybe youll convert me lol

Re: Better Than Default (BTD) Roster for Switch

Niceeee work brotha and yeah I keep trying out test games and it is amazing how it plays with the signature edits. Did you know the pelicans don’t have no plays for their playbook? You’d be surprise how generic dribbling move for stars are. Idk my belief is before fixing anything the realism of the signatures come first. Now I am working on the playbooks from ATD, but as far as sig edits I finished all teams pretty much other than two way players. Also took out all injuries other than Iggy since he simply will not play until he is traded. Wanted to leave Boogie as well since D39 wouldn’t be there if Boogie was but I guess McGee, Dwight and Boogie gotta share that love with Bron lol. Obviously this game doesn’t get patched like the other consoles so all the patches that messed with speed hasn’t hit us (yet). Game speed at 60 is perfect and like I said I personally use a modified version of shady Mike. Also when you get a chance check out my Porzingis I honestly feel that’s as good as it gets in-game and I still don’t agree with Lavine having Durant as a base, because he doesn’t always lean when he shoots especially when he pulls up, but to find a balance I used Durant as his pull-up with the changed jump shot and it works pretty good. Appreciate the caps you changed will definitely check em out and make the changes [emoji1417] I used the Wanamaker CAP from this forum but just made the nose a bit bigger so if you didn’t change him check that out and the Nunn I got from the Tube is second to none and looks just like him. BTW I love how Nunn in this game plays just like himself taking a bunch of shots and missing, yet staying aggressive when you need him most (love it). Let me know what you think [emoji482]

Better Than Default (BTD) Roster for Switch

I also changed touches for a lot of people as well, including Ingram, PG13 and decreased WESTBROOK with touches/shots since he tends to take more shots and 3’s then Harden which is ridiculous but I’m working on that. I am also changing accessories little by little since that’s off as well. For the life of me I don’t know how anyone can use 2K’s outdated roster lol. All new big men got basic 1 everything and new guards usually have normal 2 or 3 for everything, I mean it’s just absolute laziness by 2K.

Well great now i played your roster and love the sig shots, so mine is still not done lol

Im not gonna kill myself editing every aspect of every player, but i think ill do woodys top player edits, plus jump shots for everyone. Do u have any useful spreadsheets for sig edits? Or you just used woodys videos?

Thank you my guy and yeah I use his old and new vids combined as sort of a base. The fact is from 2k18 to now some things changed, somethings are better left as 2K20 has it (rarely lol) and of course it simply just doesn’t work at all anymore or there is a better sig option. My roster is a combination of many works combined with a combination of me blending some suggestions with others. Wish I could jump on yours but I simply put in too much work at this point. BTW added a couple of your caps along with some thorough sig edits for less generic sigs. Check out the warriors tonight on my roster I’ll make sure to add their playbook edits so it could be on point [emoji482]

Also if you get a chance check out my Reggie Miller and oh man those 03-04 Pistons are unbeatable man. Check it out some really good stuff [emoji1417] Also (lol) Timsmooth’s spreadsheet is amazzzzinnnggg for free throw edits and pretty much a lot of low rated guys that nobody really does shot edits on.

Wow, didn't expect to find a roster I could use for switch as I plan on diving into Myleague soon. Glad I found this. Thanks for all the work.

No problem. Glad i could help

Just fyi i edited all sig shots per the ATD20 videos on YouTube with woody’s sigs. Has basic jump shots for everyone plus full signature edits for most stars (in some cases not woodys, but others i found on youtube).

I literally finished this afternoon and wanted to test it out a bit b4 uploading, but ill go ahead and upload in an hour or two. A lot of this is personal preference anyway

EDIT: updated with sigs. As i said most are woodys, which are fantastic by and large. I think everyone has players (particularly on their own teams) where you prefer something else, But for this uploaded version i wanted to keep my idiosyncrasies out of it and go with a general edits most people like. Check out the sig edits thread for other ideas if anyones shot looks off to you

Also note that i have a backup w default sigs so anyone can lmk if u want.
