A lot of it is "If Player X is present with Y lineup conditions"

I.E. Stockton/Malone are only going to feel like Stockton/Malone w/ the respective-Era Jazz playbook.
If you gave John Stockton's Tendencies etc to Howard Eisley, they likely wouldn't play the same. I believe ACE is checking for the Player ID.
Agree regarding with your freelance coding thoughts.
But you are incorrect regarding the Stockton, malone and eisley comment.

I can guarantee if you put stocktons tendencies (if they are properly edited) to Eisley, Eisley will play like Stockton.

But if you put Stockton and malone on the current jazz, change some of the plays to 1-4 pick n rolls and add some 4 low post plays that suit malone. You will find markannen still gets the lion share of the offense run through him. Even if you adjust the touch tendencies of the players.
Because ACE seems hardcoded in the current playbooks.

But if you change the jazz playbook to any other non current playbook. Add the suitable plays for Stockton and malone and viola. Markannen is now secondary scoring option.

It's only the current teams playbooks that are affected by this ACE freelance issue.

Remove those playbooks from your roster and the tendencies, plays and coach profile run plays actually work.

Re: Att: Roster makers. (Some findings and observations)

I almost gave up trying to edit 2K25 Default Rosters to my liking since all the Touch tendency changes I’ve made did not seem to make a difference in how the CPU plays and focus their offense on.

2K25 relies too heavily on star players leaving Role Players with 1-3 FGAs for the entire game while the Top 1-2 players on each team would take 25+ FGAs…

Anyways, through my repeated editing and subsequent testing I have found a few things that will help you other roster editors out. (If you haven't discovered it already.

          1. Current team playbooks have hardcoded sets that take precedent over plays. This makes the "run plays" coaching slider practically redundant.
This hard code also lessens the impact of the touches tendency for the most part.
This was an issue in 2k21. Made it very difficult to edit rosters and get teams and players to respond to edits and not overuse a particular player without significantly lowering their touches tendency thus causing issues down the stretch.
This was not a problem with 2k23. But it's back in 2k25. (I skipped 2k24)
The fix is to replace the current playbook with a classic or user playbook. Then adjust the suitable plays for said team.

The non current playbooks don't seem to be "hard coded" and will actually respond to your edits and much more often utilise the plays you put in the playbook. And "run plays" coaching slider will actually be effective.

This is a must for you hardcore roster editors who want a better cpu gameplay experience.

I will post here and inform on any more findings as i continue to create and edit this roster.
My goal is to have a cpu v cpu myleague. Where I control every team and "watch" every game, jumping in when i see fit or when i have time.
I did it for 2k23 and it was my greatest roster.

If you guys have other findings that may help other like minded roster makers, post it here.
This is an incredible and game changing find! I was going crazy and almost gave up after editing Touch Tendencies and not seeing any changes. But this find unlocks the Touch Tendency to be effective as it should be. Kudos!

Also finding that if you use a classic team’s playbook as a base to add/remove plays, you are limited to the number of total plays it already has. For example, if a classic team’s playbook originally has 42 total plays, you can’t add more than that. But if you use a classic team’s playbook that has 58, you can edit up to 58 plays but no more.

Also finding using classic team’s playbook is more effective than editing a user playbook in my experience in terms of roster edit tendency effectiveness.

@Nogster, what would your PG touch tendency be at? I’m finding scoring PGs are too OP and overused.

That is all dependent on the team, and the players surrounding the pg.

I have actually raised the touches of many of the facilitating pgs or playmakers. And i have also lowered certain tendencies especially
of scoring pgs, IE: the off screen 3 tendency to stop every pick n roll handler launching 3s around every screen. And a lot more. It's a balancing act and lots of tendencies tie into each other and the playbook, the plays in the playbook and the run plays slider.

My roster is not the standard roster though.
I am nearly compete. But what I have done is add 1 to 2, sometimes 3 retired legends from 80s to now to current teams, move current players back to teams where they were in their prime(Harden to Rockets, westy to OKC etc)

I'm a long time nba fan and gamer and my hobby now comes from watching the games and seeing my edits in action in a season where I control every team and play (watch) every game.

It takes a lot of editing to get the cpu to run teams and players properly. But it's what I enjoy doing and I am very good at it.

It's very easy to do as you can save the plays.
So customise the teams playbook to your liking. Save it. Then simply change the playbook to either a classic team or a generic playbook. Then go to the playbook menu and load the plays you saved.
This will overwrite the classic or generic playbook with the plays you set for that team but not carry over the annoying freelance "hardcode" (the only way I can describe it.

                  1. Im on my roster screen.
                  2. I edit a team's playbook and click share and save it.
                  3. Back into roster/coach screen.
                  4. Change ''playbook' to a custom or classic team
                  5. Back into 'edit playbook' screen
                  6. Click 'load playbook' and choose the correct file.

This is so underrated, it totally changed the game for me and with my other findings I’m experiencing the best Basketball Simulation I’ve ever played all my life. I’ll share my other findings soon but I’ve been testing all weekend and now I’m seeing roleplayers for the CPU team making a difference as well as great shot distribution for the CPU and realistic 3s/drives taken.

Prior I was experiencing that the CPU PG would be too OP and that star players would be taking all the shots and having all the plays run through them. Also was experiencing too many 3s taken by the CPU after a screen was set for them beyond the 3pt line. Now, I’ve found a way to fix all that with tendency changes being effective after the classic playbook discovery by Nogster. Total game changer!

                          Greetings,

I remember you when I was doing Classic teams back in the day. It was you and I believe PortlandBlazer, and someone else, who made some really dope teams and missing players.

I'm glad to see that you are back into it. I haven't done classic teams since NBA 2k11. I'm looking forward to maybe starting a MyEras with either the Jordan Era or Lebron Era. I'll be looking forward to whatever you have worked up.

The roster I have nearly completed is the current NBA roster but I have added 1, 2, or 3 retired players to each respective team and the fully edited the ratings/tendencies/coach profiles/playbook etc of every player and tested and tested and tested cpu v cpu gameplay.

                            So example.

                            Lebron is in current Cavs.
                            A.D is in current Pelicans.
And in their place is Kobe, Magic and Kareem.

                            Shaq is in Orlando.
                            Bird is Boston.
                            Stockton and Malone in Jazz.
                            Ewing in NY.
                            Miller in Pacers.
                            Paul and Griffin in Clips.

Duncan, Manu and Parker in Spurs etc...
                            Etc..etc...

And I will play 1 my nba season. Control all teams. And literally play (watch) most if not all games. And tinker etc from there.

                            Im nearly done.

Im very close to completing my roster but the last few days have noticed a clear change in cpu gameplay regarding double teams in the post. At first I was very relieved to finally see regular, constant post double teams when an elite post scorer gets the ball, but there must of been some adjustment under the hood, as this is all but gone now, and it's gone back to 2k23.
And defensive settings regarding post double teams literally do nothing.
Pretty frustrating watching Ewing or Olajuwon just eat inside while the defending team stays home and leaves the post defender on an island (unless it's a positional mismatch).
This was certainly not the case a week or so ago, and I am comprehensively testing this game. Something has changed.

We should have a double team slider or at least the help defense coach slider should incorporate post double teams.
                                Grrrr.

I have trial and errored this issue all day. Lowering defenders inside defense and strength attributes to see if this triggers the AI to double. But so far no luck.
I am seeing Shaq get regular double teams. So .....
Confused?? Maybe he is hardcoded to be doubled in the post. No idea...
