Question regarding Playbook and Running Plays

Are plays actually runable? It seems like a stupid question yes but when I try to run a play, my team just stands in one place like a bunch of morons, maybe it's because I'm using the Lakers so the players aside from Kobe are like, "well Kobes gonna shoot anyways so I'll just stand here instead of wasting my energy."

Any help would be appreciated, do I have to be in the exact spot with the ball handler as the playbook shows?

How do I run a play so IT WORKS?
NO! I will not change this until Lakers get to Western Conference Finals!!! Friday, Oct 13, 2006 (It is raining hard) 8:14pm 30sec (Check)

Plays run fine for me. I just select which one I want to run and it runs. It may not always run how it's drawn up..but it runs..lol

2K needs to work on spacing damnit.

Yup...and maybe even some form of custom play making.

I cant stand the Raptors playbook.

        Basically.

If you're running with the Lakers, "Rub Read" and another play that I can't remember are a poor man's version of the triangle. You can go a bunch of ways with it once you learn to play with it. Swing it to the SF, PG cuts to corner and you have at least 4-8 options to choose from.

        Amen.

Not only that, but the pace too.

I have to ask... are the off-ball screens really working for you guys? Everytime (well, most of time anyway) when I call a play, the players go to the right spots to set screens, but they rarely tie up the defender, so that my players don't get the open looks that I think they should be getting. Am I expecting too much out of these screens? I mean, I know that not every screen is gonna knock the defender down (nor would I want them to) but I think the defenders should be running into screens more often then they do.

Spacing and timing. What makes Rip Hamilton so great is the change of speeds he uses to get off screens to get open. Ray Allen is another guy great at that.

the icon passing helps a bit with that. for example if mike miller is coming off off a baseline screen, i'll use the icon passing and try to lead the pass. when the defender bumps (or touches) the screener, thats when i pass the ball. the defender almost always goes under the screen, so i typically lead the pass in the direction my player is running, but more towards the "wing" as opposed to the baseline. if the defender goes above the screen, i lead the pass more towards the baseline. i also sometimes try to pass to a spot directly behind the screener, but futher away, on the perimeter.this seems to help a little. i hope i made sense with all of this.

That does make sense, but I guess I just don't like the fact that defenders can go under the screens and not lose much ground I think I do need to work on my timing, but I would like it if defenders would fight over/through the screens more often. As it stands, players seem to set their screens a little too far away from the defender, and the defender can just avoid the screen all together. Is there any sliders/roster edits that will give me the results I am looking for?

You can probably just try and tweak the pick success and strength sliders for the human to make the picks more successful

Well no I guess you cannot............... Because THEY SUCK

Well I would like them to move around a bit, I mean I actually pass the ball around so they should at least respond to me

Before anything I do I go to coach setting and set playcalling to auto w/message and its set for me but my question is it set for the cpu too while he play the game.

I think it is but I never checked.

Like the other users said, auto w/ message might help your struggles a little bit more...but when I use this, the play currently being called may occasionally be outside of your team's playbook. Not realistic, but what I do is, before each game, change my team's playbook to "All" so I'm able to find these plays and execute properly. You can try it but do whatever you feel most comfortable with.
