Can Someone Make Sense Of These 2K Related Things For Me?

Answer these questions from a 2K/VC standpoint because these questions boggle my mind

    1. Why are we only allowed to create 20 players on NBA but on College we get an INFINITE number of CAPS?

    2. Why aren't there classic teams?

    3. Why are we not allowed to edit the names, hairs, ages, etc........of pre-existing characters?

    4. Why are there SO many missing players that are NEVER even added by the end of the season; and in some cases (Turiaf) don't end up in the game the WHOLE FOLLOWING YEAR?

Those are some great questions. I'm not sure that's high priority for the powers that be. I would love to see more attention paid to the small things as well. I wish every game, took the All Star Baseball approach when it comes to little details. The game play was horrible but everything else was awesome. 2k has made serious strides when it comes to the actual game of basketball but everything else needs a little bit of work.

Frequent Roster Updates with actual pictures and not those made up once would be nice. When a game ships with about 60 players missing from the opening day roster and you do little to remedy that fact with roster updates, your fans will have an issue with that.

An association mode that folks can actually enjoy

Actual commentary that's not going to bore you to death

With all this being said. it's still arguably the best basketball game ever made.
It's just too bad these things are not high on their list.

Good questions, I just realized that Turiaf wasn't even in the game or online for that matter. I rather have him instead of Smush parker or Makie *sigh*

But the producers of 2k can answer those questions because they have the right answer, those lazy bastards, make the gameplay very nice but cannot update the roster and some minor things we request.
NO! I will not change this until Lakers get to Western Conference Finals!!! Friday, Oct 13, 2006 (It is raining hard) 8:14pm 30sec (Check)

I can't speak for Mike, Rob, and everyone else, but Mike is AI programming, and Rob is the head of the project. Rosters are neither of their respective forte's.

One thing I will say though, is from previous years, everything has been grandfathered in, including but not limited to CAP system w/ maximum spots, which relied solely on the storage capacity of the PS2 and Xbox systems. With a new engine, etc, I'm thinking, I don't know 100%, that we'll see more CAP spots now. But like I said, I don't know this.

As far as classic teams, you'd have to get the rights to retired players, which in the end would cost quite a bit of money, which quite frankly, isn't a cost that seems feasible at the time. You could allocate your funds towards Classic teams, or you could focus more on the current day league, and make more improvements to the gameplay, AI, etc. It takes money to make these games... it would take even more money to get the rights to use the classic players on the classic teams.

As far as editing names, etc, that would most likely be a stipulation from the NBA and Player Association itself. You have the rights to use those players, and those are the players that the NBA wants you to use (i.e.-Not changing their names. As far as hair styles, ages, etc... that's all a part of each players "likeness". That just like in any sports game where you get to use a players likeness... they represent the current day roster to the best of their ability, and once again, not really allowed to edit a player likeness. Not really 100% sure, but that's my guess.

As far as guys not on the roster, I have no clue. That's a beef of mine as well. Playing with the Lakers in my online seasons, I wanted to use Turiaf... but he was nowhere to be found. Hopefully that aspect will be improved this year.

Not excusing 2K for not having him in the game but

If Turiaf was in the game would anybody actually use him? Or would they score with Kobe, go into replay and look at the bench to see what new dance he was doing

Maybe online cheddar heads wouldn't use him, but real Laker fans who are playing an season, or an association would use him for sure.

Now obviously as someone with no inside contacts, I can only speculate, but my gut tells me that the no editing of existing players is an internal decision made by VC, maybe something engine related. My memory may be fuzzy, but I think you could edit anyone back in 2k3, 2k4, but they then made a new graphics engine for 2k5 and you couldn't do so anymore.

If they are changing engines again then maybe full editing will be back in. At least I hope so.

Do the same thing tomorrow. And the next. Now do it forever.

I know that licensing issues come into play but they had classic teams when Live was still beating them. 2K3, 4 & 5 i think has classic teams. They already have the rights to the players like Bird and the Doc... Why not aquire the other player licenses?

But with that said i think that the lack of extras as far as jerseys, sneakers, unadded players n stuff may be due to them working on 2K8 and it being a new engine and all. I'm guessing......

                    2K never had classic teams

That All 90's, 80's East nonsense ain't what I consider CLASSIC TEAMS.

Can't they pull a Madden and just make the old teams and give them numbers and then let us edit?

I believe that Visual Concepts needs to add generic players as placeholders, which offline fans can edit completely (such as MLB 2K series), and VC can edit (w/ actual photo)and make them available for download online. This would also enable them to add the NBA Development League, where individuals can edit the players to their real life counterparts.

Make guys like Marcus Willliams, Jackie Butler and James White generic players, whcih I can edit to reflect their real life selves instead of not having them in at all. <!-- / message --><!-- sig -->

while i love 2k7 and it is by far the best bball game, i do have problems with the whole roster/editing/fa/CAP issues

the head of the project should be able to speak in regards to these issues intelligently and answer these type of ongoing questions we have every year. why is it that some 2nd and 3rd year players never get added?

if the 20 CAPs were grandfathered in, and it is an engine issue, why did the work around(which gave you a way to add more CAPs) get taken out on the 360? it appears they can tweak the engine somewhat.

                        Just asking...

for the classic teams, i would love to see year-by-year rosters sold on-line( or by the decade). probably not enough of us willing to buy to make it profitable, but that woould be nice( along with past arenas, unis, rule changes, etc)

And as far as editing, i might be wrong but cant we edit height? that would be part of the likeness.

i would be happier if they just gave us the fa slots for CAPs, since the fa in 2k7 were pretty useless(spreee...) c'mon 2k, the space is there.

Devs can just take a look at how it is done in terms of roster editing in Winning Eleven (or Pro-Evolution Soccer for the US).

I certainly would use Turiaf, the guy brings energy to the team and I would have him do the same in the game. I feel bad because someone I was about to play but they quit on me once they saw that I was going to choose the Lakers, I mean I don't do that cheese pass to your superstar and get as many dunks as possible, or in other words, "play to win, NO MATTER what it takes" But I guess thats expected when ya see someone use the Lakers, Cavs, Heat, or Rockets. Heck I cant even shoot 3's with Kobe, sometimes on rare occasions I get on fire but seldom seen.

Although I don't mind the Turiaf dance on the bench idea, that should be 2k8's main goal as far as new animations/features go.
