    Re: Defining each Slider, Rating and Tendency (NBA 2K8)

    thx nogster for the reply, everything you said is pretty much what I was thinking or already knew. Also thx about the simmed stats, thats too bad that the teams are hardcoded for simmed stats.

    The over dribble slider, has anybody tested this out, I will tonight after work to see if it is PG specific? And to see if it cuts down on assist numbers.

    Will test the 1 one 1 as well, to see if there is no passing with it at 100.

    I will also test look for post, now if it works like it should, 100 being 100% of the time a post player, post up and calls for the ball he should get it every time. and opposite for 0.

    Nogster,
    Now if jumpers, 3pt, attack, and pound are all ratios for the teams offense. Shouldn't it equal a certain number, 100 perhaps. Now I don't expect you to know for sure, unless you programmed the game and aren't telling us.

    So 25 for pound, jumpers, 3pt and attack would equal a 100.
    Now that should produce a well balanced offense. If it works like that. This is also not taking account of individual tendencies. Do you see where I am going with this.

      Bateman, try my sliders out, they are in the slider section of the forums and let me know, I have cut down the backdoor to a minimum.

      And know the pick and roll is stoppable and effective if worked the right way.

        Too bad I cannot get into this game. Awkard driving w/ the ball, missed layups, dumb shots inside, inability to hit a contested jumper, cpu's ability to magically get points off of backdoor cuts and weird moves, not realistic at all pick-and-rolls, etc. There are good things with the game, but for me, I cant get past these things.
        Man you really need to look at using some of the slider sets posted in the slider section of these forums if you haven't already. It helps alot of what you're talking about. Currently I'm using Benico's and with these it's like a whole new game. Backdoor cuts have virtually disappeared. If the cpu does do it you will be TOTALLY surprised because it will be so rare. Jumpers drop if contested but in the context of common sense. Driving with ball just takes getting used to the mind set of the game and your players. I noticed that it seems you can start a drive at one point on the floor with player A and then start the shot and he'll start his animation way out, player B you start at that same point and he'll pull up for a jumper. You have to start his drive a bit later and closer to the basket. That's just how it is. Don't give up though. The rewards are great just use sliders. Out the box this game was set to "sell units" so take that for what it's worth

          Re: Defining each Slider, Rating and Tendency (NBA 2K8)

          The sliders need to be overhauled

          Attack Basket
          (drives)
          3pt
          Jump Shot (mid range)
          Pound it in (close)

          These sliders should be based on percentage (i.e . add up to 100)

          Transition D=======================Crash the Boards
          Fast break========================Def boards
          Finish strong======================Finesse

          These 3 sliders need to be directly correlated. I added the Transition D and Def boards, but it would help bball novices understand whats being compromised when u max out a certain slider. It should not be an option for Finish Strong and Finesse to be maxed out at 99.

            Re: Defining each Slider, Rating and Tendency (NBA 2K8)

            About the "Follow Missed Shots" slider, I'm pretty sure it affects how hard the whole team hustles overall for offensive boards. The difference between that and "Crash Boards," I think, is that Crash Boards is how long they wait before getting back on defense when a shot goes up, and Follow Missed Shots is how aggressive they are on the boards.

            I may be wrong, though.

              500bloc made a post a while back translating the teams sliders and what their corresponding globale tendency slider was. I will look for it when I get home

                I'm pretty sure follow missed shots pertains to whether they put the shot back up, or do they reset after an offensive board, otherwise, having both those sliders is just redundant.

                  Nah thats not what follows missed shot. FOllowing your shot is simply the act of going in for an offensive rebound. But again if we are TOLD what these things meant then there would be NO confusion

                      DC or 500bloc, can you guys elaborate on these any further. Such as how they correlate with player tendencies and global tendency slider (in gameplay settings under tendencies)

                      Example:

                      Gameplay Tendency Sliders:
                      Shoots Inside: 0
                      Shoots Mid-Range: 65
                      Shoots 3PT: 60
                      Attacks the Basket: 50

                      Player A:
                      80 shot tendency
                      75 close
                      50 med
                      15 3pt
                      90 drive the lane

                      Team X:
                      Pound Ball Inside (close) = 45
                      Settle For Jumpers (mid) = 55
                      Rely on 3PT Shot = 60
                      Attack Basket (drive) = 65

                      Player A (75close) x Gameplay Sliders (@ 0) would equal 0 for the tendency

                      Player A on Team X w/ Gameplay sliders:
                      close ?
                      med ?
                      3pt ?
                      drive the lane ?

                      The way I see it is.

                      Example A:

                      Player A has a close shot tendency of 75, the users gamplay tendency slider for close shots is 0. Therefore at this point Player A has a new close tendency of 0.

                      another way to look at is like this.

                      Gameplay Tendency Sliders at 50(for shoots inside) will mean whatever the Players tendency is (player A (75) for close range) that in game his (close range) tendency will be 75.

                      Now if the Gameplay slider is bumped up to say 75. Then the players tendency will be bumped up 150%.

                      Slider=
                      0=0%(of his tendency in the roster edit screen)
                      25=50%
                      50=100%
                      75=150%
                      100=200%

                      Okay now after that, we need to find out how the Team Sliders correlate to the tendencies after this point.

                      I have done some testing with putting all offensive categories (in team sliders) at 0, and it seemed as the players played directly off of their tendency ratings from the roster (also had gameplay tendencies at 50 for all)

                      Update:
                      Played two games this morning, first game was Cleveland(me) at New Orleans.
                      I put all gameplay tendencies at 50 and put the following at 0 under team sliders for NO.

                      Pound Ball Inside = 0
                      Settle For Jumpers = 0
                      Rely on 3PT Shot = 0
                      Attack Basket = 0
                      Finish Strong Inside = 0
                      Look For Post Players = 0
                      Prefer 1 on 1 = 0
                      Tend To Overdribble = 0
                      Use Finesse Inside = 0
                      Follow Missed Shots = 0

                      Okay after the first half, score was NO 62 CLE 48, they were running and gunning on me, hard. Peja was lighting it up.

                      Going into the 3rd I decided to change some of the team sliders to see what did what according to actual gameplay. So I looked at the categories I had at 0 and noticed 10 of them.

                      So I decided to give myself 10 points for each category 0-9.
                      9 being the most, and 0 being the least. And then divvied up the points per category according to the way NO plays IRL based upon how I percieve them to play. (I will get stats and then go back and change numbers but for the time being I quickly did some numbers)

                      So I already have NO game tempo at 75 and fastbreak at 75 too.

                      I changed the following to:

                      Pound Ball Inside = 1
                      Settle For Jumpers = 7
                      Rely on 3PT Shot = 5
                      Attack Basket = 9
                      Finish Strong Inside = 3
                      Look For Post Players = 3
                      Prefer 1 on 1 = 0
                      Tend To Overdribble = 0
                      Use Finesse Inside = 7 (keep this one relative with stong inside for example 7/3,,,6/4,,,8/2,,,etc)
                      Follow Missed Shots = 3

                      After this I played the second half and noticed that the team was quicker with passing the ball around and taking an immediate shot off the catch. Also noticed that if room was giving depending on the player that they would shoot and/or drive(cp3). Peja was shooting quite a bit and they kept feeding him the ball off screens and cuts. (Nogsters tendencies with adjustments)

                          After some more testing of the sliders I have noticed that the ingame coach settings (left on dpad) are exactly some of the teams sliders which will be shown in red

                          for example

                          in game, coach settings (left on dpad)

                          game tempo = tempo

                          get back------------------offensive boards = crash boards (lower the slider = get back {in game})

                          boxout-------------------fastbreak = fastbreak (lower the slider = boxout {in game})

                          defensive pressure = defensive pressure

                          just letting everyone know.

                            Re: Defining each Slider, Rating and Tendency (NBA 2K8)

                            Yeah I already knew crash boards sliders is for offensive rebounds and the fast break slider controls the defensive rebounds. The lower the fast break slider, the more they will go for the defensive rebound.

                            Anyway......this is what I learned today after missing around with the individual player attributes and tendacies.

                            1. The higher the offensive awareness, the more points that player will try to score. Which is particular useful when editing star players. Because when I lowered it to 40 for Chris Paul, he wasn't shooting the ball, instead he would drive and pass the ball a lot. When I put it on 90, he looked to score more himself.

                            So it is like a chain of command. People with offensive awareness in the 90s take more shots then people in the 80s, 70, 60s, etc. So keep that in mind when doing roster edits. When you want the stars of a team to average the points they should average raise their offensive awareness rating to the 90s.

                            2. Shooting attributes. You not going to hit mid range shots unless its in the 80s. Particularly the mid 80s. Because I had Kobe at 80 and he was 2 for 10. I put him at 85 and he was 5 for 10. In the end I put him at 87 and he was 7 for 10. Which is more Kobe like.

                            Now I put the PF's who can shoot mid range like Okur, Garnett, West, etc at 85.

                            Now pretty much all Centers shoud have a mid range shot in the 60s or lower.

                            3. Making players post up. I learned the higher the back to basket rating, the more that player will post up. So pretty much nearly all Centers and Power forwards should have a back to basket rating in the 80s and 90s. Players like Dirk, Okur, Jeramine O'Neal, West, etc I put at 50 or 55. Beause they have a mid ranger jumper also and really only post up have the time anyway in real life.

                            Now this will just make them post up. Which can be anywhere, and not neccessarily in the low post. In order to make them post up low, raise their close shot tendacy to the 90s. And make their other shot tendacies very low.

                              Fade away shot tendacy - For some players like Kobe, Garnett, Lebron, etc. I put this in the 90s. Seems more life like this way because certain players shoot fade aways a lot.

                              Contest shots is pretty much self explanatory.....means the more they will go for a block shot. Now for a few players I put this in the 90s. For a dozen or so others I put it in the 80s. Most of the forwards and small forwards I put in the 60s. Everybody else I put in the 30s and 40s.

                              The reason behind this is some players just wasn't averaging the blocks per a game like they should be.

                              Dunking attribute - the higher it is, the more variety of dunks a player can have.

                              Lay up attribute - the same as above. The higher it is, the more variety.

                                This is a pretty good thread. That's a nice find, so are you saying that's what we should set the team sliders too? I really want them to play off their tendencies.
