I love how when people disagree they try to act like you dont know ball. Your whole thread is just wrong because this game is actually the cheesiest 2k in a while and you just havent run in a decent cheeser.

You call a simple switch of a player chess? you obviously have no idea about x's and o's.
Thats a simple a switch that anyone with common sense would make. And your trying to turn it into some masterful move...lol.
.. what he did was fine and smart on his part.. good slashing players will warp through you the majority of the time for a basket..he adjusted.. just what he was supposed to do.

2nd point.. OP, unfortunately online this game is a cheesers paradise..specially this year w/the blind matches and untouchable stars

Blind matches I believe will eventually discourage cheesing because the cheeser in my opinion won't be able to select his prey.

But this is just my opinion based on my experience, I am sure and it is already coming that people's opinions on this will differ.

younggrease noted that my whole thread is wrong because his opinion is that this is the cheesiest game ever, I never knew that person's opinion was a math problem with 1 + 1 always equaling 2 and as such if I answer 3 then I am wrong. Another man's opinion can never be wrong, people just share differences in opinions which is what is the basis for discussion so while I believe that this year cheesing will be reduced I understand others thinking otherwise.

              Re: NBA 2K9: A Cheeser's worst nightmare

2K9 is NOT cheeser friendly....I play randoms all the time....Most people I play do try to pick the Lakers or Rockets but it doesn't matter because none of them know how to play with them....All you have to do is take your time and think basketball strategy and you will blow the cheeser out everytime.....People who full court press get beat up the floor, people who don't sub just get embarrased completely as they cannot hit shots, run the floor or play defense when they are tired and guys get tired QUICK. You absolutely have to sub, constantly I might add. Pick the Rockets and Yao will be down to 1 bar by the end of the 1st quarter....

Guys who try to bully their way to basket get shut down with a 2-3 zone and turning your help defense slider all the way up.....

And if somebody quits, who cares, you still get the win......At least its not like Madden where if somebody quits on you and there's still a whole half to play, you probably don't feel like the playing a half against the cpu, so you just take partial points and you don't get a win....

I played 3 games last night, one to completion and 2 which I was up and the other party quit.

I only have 1 win registered so I am not sure about you getting the win part.

Seems the servers aren't recording properly then. I have also been noticing that my wins for 5 on 5 matches also are not recorded.

Maybe I am having connection issues, need to check my router setup to ensure that the correct ports are open.

An explanation of port forwarding and the necessary steps to set up port forwarding in your router.

Thats a good site to help you with that, just find out your router model number and it will walk you step by step through the process...

A good way to check if you're ready for online play also is to run the XBL network test and see if your NAT is showing as 'Open'. If not, that will severely restrict the people you can play successfully and normally makes it very difficult to connect. If you got a new 360 due to RROD or sometimes even with an extended power outage, your settings might get reset and you'll end up with a closed NAT again, so check it periodically to make sure it didn't reset on you. Static IP is another key to this, but that's all explained at portforward.com..

I've only played 3 games online through the ranked/custom match system, all of them were Lakers cheesers, and I lost all 3 games by a good margin because I refuse to play off-ball defense basically. The layups are so contextual this year that you can perfectly contest it with 2 people and they'll still manage to make it (especially Kobe, but Pau/Bynum make everything up close as well). One guy I played was able to steal the inbound (or 2nd pass no) less than 10 times even when I was icon passing to avoid it. If he missed the initial inbound, he'd wait for me to give the ball back to my PG to run a play and just grab it then... way too easy to do that this year.

But yeah, Kobe is unstoppable unless you pack the paint with bigs whenever he drives (gotta play off-ball to do that, of course) and keep him off the 3PT line. I was playing with the Grizzlies one game when I really got killed, the Monta-less Warriors also got handled... guess if I see someone pick the Lakers I should get a better team with some inside presence (Portland is a great idea to counter Pau/Bynum)... I'd say that overall it seems easier to get cheesed unless you're playing off-ball defense (which has been improved a lot from 2K8).

No way around it, you have to mix and match on/off ball defense....Someone on this site broke it down nicely in another thread but basketball is a 5 on 5 game and you have to know whats going on all over the court, just like football...

For now, I deem the Lakers basically unstoppable as I have played them 7 times in about 20 games and I've backed out of other games where people pick them. I know they're not ALL Laker fans...

But Bynum and Gasol are basically unstoppable down low, I've used the Spurs and Rockets against them to no avail. I have an easier time stopping Kobe than I do Gasol/Bynum..
Not to mention, all of their role players can hit shots with guys in their face....The real problem is that the default for ranked games is all star.....

play with the celtics against the lakers. garnett is a beast on defense. or get the sixers. brand and dalembert block everything down low.

                                Re: NBA 2K9: A Cheeser's worst nightmare

Yeah for sure -- the default sliders for the lobby are wack because every open shot goes in and the post is unstoppable. That #44-ranked Lakers cheeser (the one who stole the inbounds pass every chance he got... way to reward solid play once again, 2K!) was actually skilled because he wasn't just diving into the paint with Kobe on every possession, but he still managed to take 95% of his shots in the paint. In the halfcourt set, he'd actually pass the ball around a bit, but still ended up getting look in the paint most of the time.

The real problem is that he got at least 1/4 of his points just cherry-picking with Kobe. When he'd see that I was about to shoot, he'd tear *** back down the court with Kobe and let the CPU Bynum/Pau get the rebound (which of course they did most of the time)... if it was a miss, he got an uncontested dunk at the other end... no way to stop that. If it was a make, he'd make 2-3 quick passes and still end up with Kobe basically on his own while I try to get a defender back or make a switch. That was probably the worst game of 2K I've EVER played. That douchebag will probably end up on one of the Other Season teams for that **** too. I managed to hold Kobe to 19/29 FG despite that... I think Pau made every shot though.
