    Re: NBA 2K9: A Cheeser's worst nightmare

2-3 zone works great for people that try to use that baseline move. Its all about mixing it up on defense. I feel someone out in the first quarter. I see what they try to do then adjust. I am constantly going from Man to 2-3. Keep them confused it pisses them off then they just try to force their way and end up getting quite a few charges.

No, I see where you are coming from. I truly enjoy trying to find legit ways to ruin the cheeser's time with me.

Once it is on, it's on, and I am not going to disconnect. Win or lose if I can shut down what they want to cheese with, I am happy as I know I have frustrated them - even if they win.

Dont get me wrong, as I hate losing at anything - but not allowing them to win how they want to win..... gives me a tiny bit of satisfaction.

        thx.

Sadly I am one of those weird guys who hates playing zone. I suppose if it happens to me enough times though I will throw it out there....

This is EXACTLY what I do. The #177 ranked player on 2k was a total LeBron cheeser and I blew him out by 23 points with the Nuggets, simply by clogging the lane with 2-3 zone and switching to Man when he tried to launch 3s.

Yup, 2-3 zone with the help d slider turned up will shut down the Kobe and Lebron cheesers.....I've played a TON of them....The thing that will get you beat though, even if the guy can't shoot a lick and doesn't even know who can shoot 3's on his team, the 2-3 will leave guys open and the guy will still make some shots even though he doesn't really know how to shoot, just because its on all-star...So you can't just always play a 2-3 and when you do switch to man, you may get beat by some bs a couple of times...Its a huge guessing game....I'm telling you, just taking the game off of all-star will eliminate most of these issues.......It will stop guys from hitting easy hook shots in the paint, it will stop guys from just launching 3's and hitting jump shots with people in their face.......It should increase the ball movement because 2K definitely improved the passing this year.......

cheesers are effin low lifes. its pathetic. the worst part is its worse than just kobe and lebron. you can cheese with derrick rose, deron williams, danny granger, kevin durant. its sad. what i wanna know is how do those guys on the top 10 list on the leaderboards win 30 and 40 games in a row.

                  Re: NBA 2K9: A Cheeser's worst nightmare

yea I cant stand the full court pressers...i usually quit 2 minutes into the game if i come across one...what do i care? so my DNF goes up a little but so be it...why should i be forced to fight thru Hell just to advance the ball to half court? Thats not NBA basketball...college maybe sure, sometimes...NHL sure...but if i wanted to play NHL Id play NHL, not NBA...

anyway aside from that I think the game is pretty cheez proff, however, my version of sim is much more liberal than most on these boards...so Im sure alot of people will complain about more than my sole complaint (that cheezerz can take advantage of full court pressability, kinda like CH 2K7 and CH 2K8)

                    Re: NBA 2K9: A Cheeser's worst nightmare

I don't have too many problems with the game, even after all these months.......Every once in a while I'll get beat by somebody who's just flat out better than me but for the most part, I win most of my games and I don't have to cheese to do it.......

I do play to win though......If you're launching 3's, I'l leaking out for the easy bucket....For the most part, this can be stopped by turning down your crash boards slider.....

I consider myself an isomotion master so I can get to the bucket pretty easily whether he's playing on ball or off ball.......Its actually harder to get by the cpu controlled defenders like Rondo for example...

Those full court cheesers get blown out every time by anyone who knows how to use icon passing and isomotion...

But, you do need to know the limits in the game.....I like to use the Bobcats now because I know that a good iso user can make Gerald Wallace a beast....His take off point for dunks and layups make him a very underrated player.....Raja Bell is also a beast from 3. Okafor and Diop block shots, and they have Felton and Augustin.....They have a ton of good defenders plus Diaw for the full court cheesers....

Throw it up to him, use the hesitation blow by and its an easy two......

I still say anybody who's good at the game, knows how to set up players for easy shots, knows how to make jump shots, is good at isomotion and knows how to mix off ball and on ball D effectively will beat most cheesers....

The only thing I won't defend are the Lebron cheesers...........He cannot be contained in this game....And the Cavs are an offensive rebounding and 3 point shooting machine........Very hard to beat them.......They are about the only team I don't feel like playing against sometimes and will back out.......If I do play against them I pick the Lakers or Rockets...

Agreed with DC... and honestly, I don't see much improvement from 2K8 because at least then the overpowered lock-on defense would keep you with the iso whores most of the time. Now they just blow past you, and the warping/clipping problems are WAY worse than last year, so there's a lot more of those weird drives where they go through a player, warp from the FT line, etc., which cheesers love to take advantage of.

They also toned down the blocks (which is good, last year sucked with that auto block animation), but they toned thwm down again with the patch, and that took a lot of the interior defense away. Seems like only the CPU players can reliably get blocks down there -- when users jump, you end up swatting at the air and giving them a wide open look most of the time... the intelligence of the blocking system is horrible.

That's lazy defense though. If you hold onto the Lock on Defense all game, you should get beat. It's an assistance, not a crutch.

Have to use it on and off. Lock on D isn't always the best way to play defense.

                                Re: NBA 2K9: A Cheeser's worst nightmare

Nono, I wasn't advocating that.. I'm just saying that when you're playing some d-bag cheeser who just wiggles around constantly, that was the only way to really stop it aside from playing off-ball as a big man and trying to block/contest absolutely everything.

They took the teeth out of lock-on for 2K9 (which is good, I never used it against sim people in 2K8) and now it's completely useless at stopping the wiggle/iso offense... then they exacerbated it by toning down the blocks not once, but twice (you rarely see those blocks from behind that everyone was so excited about post-patch) so that's not even a very effective strategy. And since they call more fouls this year, it's just nearly impossible to stop these cheesers who drive all day... if you actually contest it properly, it almost always ends up in a foul if it's not blocked.

Playing defense on this game is eminently and uniquely frustrating, and IMO it's gotten harder this year, especially against cheesers. Unless you camp in the paint and hope that you can block without fouling, it's pretty impossible to stop these jerkasses. it's frustrating enough trying to play solid D against sim players who actually run an offense, much less these idiots that take advantage of the game's crappy collision detection and the superstars that score from anywhere with a man in their face.

That box score that DC posted is a perfect example... all PIP except free throws, which were the ones where (I assume) DC really contested well and played the best defense you can in this game... still a score. It just blows... In the rare instances where I play a regular 1-on-1 game against a random opponent, I've had plenty of those box scores, including some dude scoring 65 out of 69 points with LeBron -- and DC and I are both more than competent 2K players who understand the principles of defense. It's just shocking how easily-abused this game is, and really every basketball game is... the other ones aren't much better in this regard, but 2K's iso system and lack of collision detection exacerbates the issue... at least on Live if your player is really up in the man's face, it's a miss more often than not, even with stars... and packing the paint makes layups miss.
