Injury Effects: When a player gets injured in Season/Association, you can lower certain attributes depending on the type of injury he incurred. For example:

Leg/Foot: Vertical, Dunk, Block, Speed, Quickness, On Ball Defense, Standing Dunk
    Arm: Strength, Med, 3PT
Hand: Close, Med, 3PT, Layup, Handle, Pass, Steal, Hands

    Etc.

does that not happen automatically? i guess i always just assumed it did. a players overall rating definitely goes down when they are injured, so dont individual attributes have to go down to make that happen? maybe the decrease is hidden? if not, this is definitely something they should add for next year. a player with a foot injury shouldnt experience any decrease in shooting ability, but should definitely be slower/less quick

Re: In this thread, we post simple ways the player can make the gameplay more realist

^I'm not sure if that happens automatically-- I'll check whenever I start my Association (I know, I still haven't, despite how long the game's been out).

        Anyways, here's another:

Superstar Aggressiveness: When a team has their backs against the wall in the Playoffs (elimination game, down 0-2, etc.), generally, they look to their superstar to carry the team to a win when they need it most. As a result, most star players get more aggressive and look to shoot more in these situations.

Take the 07 Finals for example in which San Antonio swept Cleveland. LeBron James averaged 20 FGA per game through the first 3, and in Game 4, knowing that it was either win or go home for Cleveland, he attempted 30 shots. This isn't a coincidence.

To replicate this, you could raise the Shot Tendency or Drive Tendency of the other team's superstar in a Playoff series you're in if you go up 2-0 or maybe even 2-1, 3-1, 3-2, 3-3, etc.

Matchups: Before every game, go to "Choose Side" and switch over to the other team. Change their matchups as you see fit, not to help you win (obviously), but to be more realistic. i.e., if you're the Lakers and the CPU is the Spurs, switch over to the Spurs side and place Bowen on Kobe, then switch back. Also, you can edit Double-Teams and Pressure settings for the CPU's team

Crowd Volume: Before a game, go into the Presentation section of the start menu and raise the "Crowd Vol" slider depending on the team you're playing.

In general, the consensus is that the following teams have the loudest crowds:

          Golden State
          Boston
          Phoenix
          Cleveland
          LA Lakers
          New York
          Denver
          Sacramento
          Oklahoma City

The following teams probably have the quietest crowds, if you can call a stadium full of people "quiet":

          Memphis
          Charlotte
          Indiana
          LA Clippers
          Milwaukee
          Minnesota

Notice a trend? Also, crowds are gonna generally be louder in rivalry games. I'll list some if requested.

          Anyway, post your own methods.
THANKS! I like your idea about the switching teams to edit the match-ups to make the game more realistic!

Re: In this thread, we post simple ways the player can make the gameplay more realist

Slider ideas to make some game-play aspects of 2K more realistic:

The examples below can be used by any difficulty level but the ones shown here are for Superstar. Adjust slightly according to your talents and liking.

Each section describes the flawed and idealized basketball aspects that have been altered.

            REALISTIC INSIDE SCORING:
Inside score 27 (used to be 50)
            Close score 40
One of the first things we all noticed about this game is how it was too easy to score inside; teams would get 70 points in the paint! Look at the picture below and you'll see that teams realistically get around 50 points in the paint or less. Now its fixed.

            STOP CPU OBSESSIVE FAST BREAKS:
Speed and Quick 37 cpu / 42 user
Since we are playing on a higher difficulty level, the cpu is given a speed boost, much like many other boosts they get when raising the difficulty level. Now the playing field will be even, it is more balanced when cpu runs fast breaks.

NATURAL FLOW OF BASKETBALL OFFENSE - DRIVE AND KICK:
            On-ball def 37 cpu / 42 user
            Shot close tendency 27
            Help Def 85
            Attack the bask Tend 70
Now you will see more offensive players drive to the hoop then kick it out for open shots when the double team comes... like real life. On-ball defense is lowered because if you notice in real life, ball-handlers blow by their defenders ALL THE TIME which has been a missing element in the video-game basketball world even before the NBA-Live series was the top virtual basketball game.

            FASTER PASSING:

Speed and Quick 37 cpu / 42 user
            Def Awareness 32 cpu / 37 user
Now the ball moves faster than a person. Watch real-life basketball and you will see how much faster the player's pass the ball compared to how long it takes for the defense to react. This fixes how offensive players do not pass the ball fast enough, which was a big initial set-back for me concerning how much I liked this game. This decreases the ability of psychic defenders who would close-out on shooters more quickly that real-life.
The lowered def awareness also allows for more natural mistakes on defense as well as slower reaction time by the defenders, thus increasing pass speed. I recently saw a game between the OKC Thunder and the Spurs... spurs had time for one shot left in the 4th quarter to win the game... Russel Westbrook was clear on the other side of the floor when Tony Parker caught the ball wide open and made the shot to win it. Nba players do make mistakes.

FIX TOO MANY OFFENSIVE REBOUNDS, ESPECIALLY FOR THE CPU:
            Off reb 0 cpu / 30 user
Now the rebounding will be even.

RAISING THE TURNOVER COUNT - CREATING A MORE REALISTIC CHALLENGE FOR THE OFFENSE:
            Passing 39 cpu / 46 user
            Oop success 43 cpu / 49 user
Now we will get more turnovers. As shown in the picture below, nba teams get above 12 turnovers per game. Offensive players in real-life make bad passes ALL THE TIME. Some of you arcade finatics will not like when your player actually makes a bad pass, but get used to it, its part of the fun of simulation-style basketball. The best part is, there are more steals which lead to fast breaks and dunks!!

THREE POINT SHOOTING ATTEMPTS AND PERCENTAGE:
            3p Tendency 75
            3p success 44 cpu / 47 user
Now teams will shoot more of 3's. Note that you will be getting more open looks because of the lowered def awareness and “drive and kick” style of basketball (talked about above).

            TOO MANY DUNKS IN TRAFFIC:
            Dunk traffic 40
            Dunk T success 40
Now more realistic, guys dont jump over other guys... as much.

            MORE ACTIVE AND REALISTIC DEFENSE:
            Play pass lanes 100
Go for on ball stls 100
Now its harder to pass right through defenders. Like real life, there needs to be an open path-way to pass the ball or defenders will swat it down. You will need to be slightly more aware of passing lanes and when to pass the ball.
Players will now go for more on-ball steals. This is fun and opens up different animations because the ball will get swiped and on its way out of bounds players will jump for it. This will also create more reaching fouls. Its been rare, but I have actually had a few players foul out late game 4th quarter. Very realistic.

            FOULS AND FREE THROWS:
All fouls 100 (except over the back because refs would call it too often)
            Shooting fouls 93
Nba teams shoot 20 – 30 free throws per game. Get used to it, this adds depth to the game. Players will foul out. At least you will get those deserving calls when you drive hard to the hoop to sacrifice your body and put yourself at risk for injuries.

Using these ideas I got this outcome:

This is real-life NBA team stats averages and bests:

^^^^Great post, I will try the suggestion about offensive rebounds, as that is one of my only real frustrations so far with the game.

I'd just like to add that Utah has one of the loudest crowds in the league. ESA is rockin' every night the Jazz play at home.

That list is terribly out of date period, many of those "quietest" arenas are now among the loudest, and Portland and Utah were notable omissions in any season.

Those suggestions for the realistic gameplay sliders work a treat.

The CPU is definitely playing much more realistic basketball on offense. I need to check if I did all the CPU defence settings right as its not as realistic on that side of the ball yet.

I think the reason for that is I possibly didn't move the help defence slider as high as you said.

Having great results so far so a big thank you for those suggestions.

Yes, I realized how old the thread was after I posted lol. Utah and Portland are both Top-5 loudest arenas in the NBA.
