From my brief experience with the online five on five, it is very VERY much improved.

It's amazing that everybody seems to be having confounding findings when it comes to this game. In every area of the game it seems that one person thinks it's fine and another thinks it's terrible.

If I remember correctly, I played three 5 on 5 games. Lag free. No choppiness. Like Stumble said, the only time the countdown came up was when someone dropped. That's it. Which is not under 2K's control.

The only other problem I found was that some games would only start with a few users. I'd back out and find another game. Simple. I didn't have any problems connecting to a host, not once. It searched for the game, connected to a host and I was in every time I tried it.

The 5 on 5 is far more enjoyable than it was before the patch. These were all ranked games as well. Pre-patch, the 5 on 5 played like crap, plain and simple. I played 3 games with 10 users a piece, with no problems. Again, This is MY EXPERIENCE.

For some of you to think that people are just making things up for whatever reason, is just silly. What benefit do any of us gain from lying about our experiences?

Heh, finally I got my TMagic powder blue name!

And I have no reason to try to hide flaws of 2K's game -- I was decidedly lukewarm on the game ever since the release high wore off, but I always thought that Team-Up was the best part of the game, even despite the issues. There was so much potential there if they could only sort out the lag/connection issues.. in my experience the past few days, those issues are greatly improved. The patch really improved the gameplay in my eyes and gave me back 2K Cam, so I'm back in love with the game, but I was about to jump ship to NCAA 09 a week ago.

I enjoy all three games and have no qualms about calling 2K out on things -- it was broken initially, but to say that's still the case doesn't seem fair to me, given the number of people reporting games running smoothly with minimal issues. I know that NBa Live's OTP runs nearly perfectly every time, but EA is also a gigantic company with tons of servers, a huge development/online team, and the game isn't nearly as popular as 2K9, resulting in a smaller server load. So there are legit reasons for them having connection problems even after a fix -- it's just very difficult to find 10 people with reliable connections, open NAT, etc., especially with such a technologically-demanding game.

If some idiot leaves his torrent client up while he's seeding or downloading some files, it'll ruin the whole game.. nothing 2K can do about that except not let the games start, which is essentially what they're doing with these error messages. It wastes much less of your time than it did before when you'd enter a lagfest game that took 20 minutes to get through 2 minutes of game time only to get booted.. give me the countdown screen and "network conditions are too poor" or "this game cannot be started" any day.

That is very true, Stumble.

If just one person has a bad connection it will drag the entire game's connection down with it. It's just the nature of the system and out of 2k's hands.

You and a select others seem to have made it your mission to spam the boards.

We get it. You're upset for whatever reason.

That still has nothing to do with 2k's netcode and how 5 on 5 works post-patch. If one person has lag or someone disconnects, it screws up the game.

You have an answer, although not one that is apparently good enough for you. They obviously need to improve their netcode because, as you so insistently post all over the boards, other games do a better job of handling disconnects. To say that everyone can't connect and enjoy the game is simply un-true, however.

I would think some of you would hit a point where you realize your comments are nothing but whiny as you keep stating the same things over and over. If it's enough for you to be this upset with it, it's probably better you move on. But there's a reason you're this passionate about it, and it's because you WANT TO PLAY IT, because it's fun.

Obviously you're allowed to voice your displeasure about it but your comments start to get old when you keep posting them in every single thread. Over. And over. And over.

I remember hearing that EA has a different server architecture than 2K does... that 2K uses P2P and EA has dedicated servers that host and support the games. Anyone else remember that? If true, that's probably the key regarding FIFA, as that game is very popular and has people from all over the world playing 10 on 10 -- being a larger company would give EA a distinct advantage in terms of how they handle lag issues, I'd imagine..

They are certainly both using very different networking structures. If you'd notice all of EA's titles (aside from Madden) are pretty solid and all of 2k's have more issues, when compared.

no i have not gotten my answer, the answer im looking for is for the game mode to actually work as advertised, they promoted the game with this feature that they added because their competition offered this feature last year, yet they cant get theirs to work and they knew this, so they should have never advertised it

and i seriously dont believe that anyone has been able to get a 5 on 5 with all ten players to work lag free, ive yet to see any proof of that and that is what im requesting, ppl that claim that the patch fixed it are lying because when i try, or go to a friends house and try, or ask the friends on my friends list on xbl to try they tell me it doesnt work

that is y i asked for someone to show me some footage of it working with all 10 players lag free, its just not possible on 2ks servers, therefore they shouldnt have falsely advertised this feature

Okay, I'll do my best to get on tonight and use my Dazzle to capture a full 5 on 5 game. If people drop during the game, that's nobody's fault, but I'll start a game that shows 10 players in the pre-game lobby and post the video of how everything goes from there and people can draw their own conclusions. I'll let you know if I ended up cherry-picking some of the footage or had to try multiple times to start the game, etc.

And yeah, I just LOVE lying to strangers on an internet forum about something that carries no discernible benefit for me. It's practically my favorite way to spend my time these days.

3. Go To Work.
4. Lie to some dude named Chris Smoove about my online gaming experience
5. Eat Dinner
6. Go To Sleep

Leave the questions about other (WAY more established here than yourself, by the way) members credibility out of it please... no place in this discussion. I'm not saying you're lying about having tons of issues, I expect the same respect from you.

Yes, that's exactly it. Or maybe it's because you can't fix the fact that some people with bad connections can ruin everyone's online gaming experience. Everyone is not ALWAYS going to have a perfect 5 on 5 experience every time they try to start a game... that's an unrealistic expectation, and 2K said nothing of the sort. You can't always finish a game or have it be completely lag-free all the time in Madden or any other online game either... that's the nature of online gaming.

Some companies and games can handle these issues better than others, but it's generally the behemoth games like Gears, Halo, Madden, etc. who have insane amounts of resources invested into them that run perfectly online. 2K simply isn't that scale of game and 2K isn't that kind of company, even with Take-Two backing them.

Maybe 2K should change the way their servers handle games, but I imagine that they would've gone the EA route if they had the resources.

so you're saying they dont have the resources. ok, well if they dont have the resources then why offer something that they KNOW they cant handle?

thats true that everyone is not always going to have a good 5 on 5 experience, but that doesnt mean that 90% of the time it should be a TERRIBLE experience

Again blind love, had the other game have these same issue they would have been burn at the stake..

Haha, I give up. I criticized this game extensively pre-patch and still have issues with it, but the Team-Up experience is not one of them. Again, I'm willing to put aside some of the game starting issues because the actual experience is so quality and I much prefer not being able to start the game than starting a lagfest that drops you after 10 wasted minutes.

I like all three games and have criticized 2K a lot this year, but I love 2K blindly. Yep, your skills of deduction are flawless.

Smoove, I don't have a horrible experience 90% of the time. Keep throwing things against the wall hoping they stick, even when contrary evidence has been presented from multiple credible sources. I'll work on that video and maybe we can dead some of this, because it's getting ridiculous.
