    2K Answers to all Questions

As a newbee, i'm opening myself up for some harsh criticism. Very harsh. But I believe this post is warranted!

Do you find yourself irritated at NBA 2K...here lies the answer to your questions.

CPU scoring too much: Play better defense

Lebron Dunking on you too much: Play better help defense

Earl Watson mysteriously droppin 50 once in a 82 game season: it happens in the REAL NBA...deal with it

Chris Paul driving and dishing out 21 assists: This is what he does...deny the ball

Duncan beasting you up down low: This is HOF Tim Duncan...you can't stop him...make someone else score

Yao getting dunked on by Devin Harris: It happens! Live with it...just cause he is 7'6" doesn't mean squat...(google Robinson, Nate)

The point I am trying to make is that TOO many people are complaining about how REAL the game is. We ask for a REAL game then complain when it seems unreal. Fellas (and Ladies) we are playing an NBA game where the CPU is an NBA calibur player. And then we get mad when our own skills are the equivalent to Junior High Summer League. Don't get me wrong...there are many (many, many) things about this game that need work. But the game creators added sliders to the game to adjust the factors of the game to suit YOUR style of play. YOUR style...not mine or anyone elses style of play.

I've been a mbr for 2 days and can't find anyone (except 2 or three) that accept this game as if we were out there playing the sport. Tell me this: If the CPU is say...Shaq and he's giving you the business, scoring left and right, grabbin boards and blocking shots...do you expect the CPU to stop going to that guy? Do they do that in the league? EVER? No. Not in any sport actually. If the CPU is doing something that you can't stop...deal with it. Shaq and a load of other players, can't be stopped when they get going. Slow down the pace, or speed it up in Shaq's case. Foul him hard with a bench player. Put him on the line. Double team him. Deny him the ball. Play a zone. I mean come on. These are NBA players. The best in the world.

Again i am a newbee on this post (2 days) and the game (2 mos), but sometimes complaining has to stop or at least be warranted. It's as simple as being out on the floor when we're watching TNT. Just because the Pacers suck, doesn't mean they really suck. They do suck if you watch the CPU play another CPU. But face it...none of us on here are as godly as the CPU. If the Pacers are beating you...play better defense! Make smarter offensive choices. Pass better. Use your teams strenghts and expose the CPU's defensive weaknesses. Obviously the Pacers do suck...but you see what I mean.

Please, understand that I am human. I have seen things that are unusual, missed calls, glitches, weird things all together. Those things we can't change now that the game is in our consoles. IMO either deal with that or put the game up! Simple as that.

    Let the firing line begin...

hey I am not going to bash you. I actually don't own 09 but have played 2k1-2k8 (didn't have enough $$ for 2k9) I see the point you are trying to make, others may miss it. I think people are too quick to complain about a game, the same thing is happening with MLB 2k9. I could see getting mad if Tashawn Prince is hitting you for 40 points a night every night but, I don't think it happens that often. College Hoops 2k8 is my favorite game ever and guess what, there are nights that my team sucks and I let up 15 3pointers in a game and lose to 4-20 Eastern Michigan. Does it suck yes does it happen in real life yes. I have heard that 2k9 has some bugs etc.. so I can't 100% that these complaints are exagerated or not. I like having to change my play style to stop getting my butt handed to me.

Re: 2K Answers to all Questions

I just bought NBA 2k9 the other day and it's the first 2K basketball game that I have ever played. I'm not a huge NBA fan, but that's probably because the Thunder just moved into town.

Anywho, I think the game is pretty slick overall. Once I learned to play the game towards the Thunder's strength (defense), I beat the Celtics by about 6 points. Now, I don't really know my way around the controller yet, but I'm slowly catching on. Just like real NBA, you can't expect to run down the court every time & score. Also, I have learned to play off the ball defense. For whatever reason, the guards keep getting around me too easily. So, I usually post up on the Center & keep them out of the lane.

Re: 2K Answers to all Questions

People aren't complaining about scrubs lighting you up once in a while, Harris dunking on Yao, etc., they're (we're) complaining about core gameplay issues that have been present for years (i.e. clipping/sliding) and got even worse in 2K9.

The issues with dunking and the like are that the collision detection is very poor this year -- guys will dunk over 3 men after traveling from the top of the 3PT arc with no dribbles thanks to the sliding and the sticky animations (see the videos posted in MMChris' thread). The shot contests don't affect anything unless you get an absolutely perfect one, and it's normally either totally unaffected or a block, which isn't very realistic on perimeter jumpers.

Also, you can't deny the ball effectively on this game -- the deny animation only rarely affects the entry pass (you have to time it perfectly and hit steal to have a chance in hell), and more often results in a wide open dunk because you aren't between the man and the basket. Off-ball defense is atrocious on this game, and given that you can only control one player at a time, even if you're playing as the big man off-ball, you have 4 other braindead morons standing around looking stupid and allowing any kind of penetration the offense wants. Occasionally the CPU player will jump a bad pass or get a weakside block, but those are literally the only helpful things that I've seen a CPU teammate do on defense, and they're very rare.

Re: 2K Answers to all Questions

I can agree to some degree.

But 80% I put my hands up (without jumping) the player misses the jumpshot. My help defense must be better than yours (NOT A DISS WHAT-SO-EVER). I don't just stick on the Center...I use the SF/PF and sag off my man if the PG is driving...just like they do in real basketball. I fixed the phantom passing by playing the passing lanes and adjusting the sliders. What I was just trying to say is...the game isn't perfect and we all know this.

I definately know the animations are broken down...but can ANYONE who has 2K9 in the world do anything about it?

BTW...i loved your post where you were showing the phantom pivot foot, and the travel. Too funny and too common!

          G'day

            How different is 2k9 from 2k8? I really enjoyed 2k8 and 2k7.

Very different! I believe the game plays better and more fluid. It's harder to play defense (just as it should be in the NBA) and it's slightly harder (by a nose hair) to score. The PIP (points in the paint) can be a pain...unless you adjust the sliders. But there are Hundreds of people on here that will tell you otherwise.

              And trust me they will!

You talking about the right stick "tree stance"? That seems to sometimes work against the CPU when you know they'll be taking the jumper, but try that against any decent 2K9 player and they'll smoke you on the drive all day. The only time that is even remotely effective against a human is when they've picked up the dribble and are trying to pumpfake like crazy to get you to jump... and even then, I'm still not convinced that it reliably affects the shot. The tree stance has been maligned since 2K7, but at least then the actual proximity defense would affect the shot -- still didn't have anything to do with the hands-up pose itself, you just had to be standing in front of them.

Re: 2K Answers to all Questions

You talk about people complaining about Yao getting dunked on by Devin Hester - they must not watch basketball then.

My problem is Yao not getting dunked on by enough people. Im not asking for it every single game but my god he jumps the highest in the game. If you really watch his player model when it jumps and take mental note of how high he gets, its incredible. On that layup animation where they flip the ball up one handed from under the rim, he practically touches the top of the backboard. Yao cannot jump. His vertical should be a 0 or a 1 (I am aware that this would not change how high he jumps but I was speaking from the standpoint that if the vertical rating did what its name implies).

Also, its really hard to play better defense when you are the only one on the court with any idea as to what that is. Defense for me in this game is a race between me and the computer to put my players back in good defensive positions before the computer notices and takes advantage. My players are all cursed with extreme ADD because they seem to quickly lose interest in defense and will just stand there and ponder life and all its meaning.

And there is no remedy that I can do with my sticks that will correct the issue of me playing good defense only to be pulled out of it or entirely repositioned by the game. The stop and go is like the worst one for me. I see them stop and know they are doing it so I step backwards only for the game to force me forwards like I "fell for it".

If I said Devin Hester...i meant Devin Harris...my badd.

I've gone over the animations...there is nothing you can do about that. NOTHING> NADA... I understand the frustration, and I get hella irritated when that same thing happens to me. But these are the same constant gripes and complaints that everyone who ownes the game (whether we like the game or not) has. Everyone. I was just saying that It got tiring after two days hearing about how messed up the game is. We can talk about glitches, travels, animations etc...until we're blue in the face. We all know it...there are somethings we can do about it like adjust the sliders...and others we have to deal with. Until they fix this problem.

But there were some people on here talking about getting blown by...or PIP and other "things" that happen ever so often! That's the game, plain and simple. Play D, play O, board, and you'll be fine.

Tell 'em Powder. It is funny how many people claim to know so much about basketball, yet want a completely realistic experience from a videogame. IT'S NOT GOING TO HAPPEN.._ Get off off your a$$, go outside and play. All you can get on the sticks is the best b-ball game currently available. Enjoy it or don't play it.

And this is why Madden is the garbage it is to this day. Some people want to wave the EA flag and not acknowledge the serious problems with the game and the problems stay year after year and the gameplay never advances. If we follow what you're saying 2K will NEVER fix up their game. They, obviously , need to be constantly reminded that the people who made you the "number 1 sim" game want you to BE a number 1 sim game. Sometimes when I play this game it doesn't look like they were trying to get the NBA Live crowd it looks like they were trying to get the NBA Street crowd.

I'm that dude with the oldest NBA 2K franchise thread so I'm not here complaining just for the hell of it. I'm complaining because the game has lost it's way: http://www.2ksports.com/forums/showthread.php?t=10828

                            Yo,

I'm not saying "don't express your opinion on the game" but all I am saying is that everyone posts the negative about this game. Change this and change that. The CPU this and the CPU that. Isomotion sucks, fatigue sux, alley oops suck, create a player sux, half-time show sux, shotstick sux, announcers suck, etc etc etc...over and over and over and over. All i'm saying is play the game. It's a game after all. Every post has what someone would change about this, what someone would change about that. Well if you feel so strongly about it, go bang on 2K's doors and MAKE them change the game. As for now...play the game and hate it or love it! But don't cry about it.
