Over 14k posts and you haven't adjusted posts per page? I hate having to click through a million different pages in a thread but I guess some people enjoy that. Otherwise, under control panel there is an option to have 40 posts per page. Much easier to read threads IMO.

Luvmist you know we boys and you know my heart has been deeply for 2k over the last 10 plus years including the 5 back with Genesis and Sega Saturn. But right now, I'm beyond pissed and highly disappointed with what I've seen so far. This game looks absolutely terrible, from the Charlie Murphy, I mean Kobe Bryant photos to the body styles of the player models. Even that Rip Hamilton picture looks identical to 2k9.

I honestly don't think they can do anymore with the technology they have, Take Two has officially destroyed one of the best sports gaming companies in the world, with poor funding and horrendous marketing. Not to mention by allow them to continue to use outdated technology and graphics engines from past gen consoles.
If graphics are all you care about, NBA Live puts out a game every year.

I thought their marketing for NBA 2k9 was pretty solid last year. I certainly remember seeing a ton of commercials once the game hit stores. Honestly, I think the graphics are really solid and wouldn't mind if they didn't change much from year to year now. A few tweaks and slight improvements (especially on certain players) would be nice, but to me it's all about gameplay.

Can we make an unlimited number of players using the combine? If so, Classic NBA Players here we come!

I don't understand this at all. 2k introduced new technology by having seamless animations post play. They have far better modeled crowds and stadiums. EA is using pre-rendered cut scenes (technology from what circa 1990) for their presentations.

2k are utilizing new technology and have hardly used outdated graphics. Making cyberfaces on the PC is far harder for nba 2k than it is for any of the previous live games.

EA games focus on different things (how customizable are there player faces in create a player? you choose a pre-rendered face) while 2k focus on different things. It isn't outdated though by any stretch of my imagination.

People's opinions are fine as far as how they feel when they look at a game. When they start talking about engines, animation and why stuff looks real, just about everyone in this thread has no idea what they are talking about. No offense to Stumble, Behindshadows or anyone else. You just literally don't know what you're talking about. For every small kernel of truth in your arguments, there are five things you guys are totally missing, or just have wrong.

And that's perfectly fine. It's not your job to know "why" something looks off to you, or why it feels right. It's just tough to read people trying to puzzle out the whys when they have no concrete knowledge of the subject.

As someone who has modded games for the PC since 1998 I feel more than inclined to talk about the nuts and bolts of graphics and the increase and newness of technology.

There is no doubt I (or others) don't understand it all but it is clear EA and 2k take different approaches with "game engines" and new technology. This debate about 2k's old engine versus EA's new engine is crap.

The debate should come down to specifics. EA's cyberfaces over 2k's, 2k's animations over EA's....etc

RE: Cut scenes -- those were removed for Live 10, and they are all seamless now. Also, Live's crowd animates at 60 fps as well as fully-modeled players on the bench, also at 60 fps.

Just in case you missed that.

BShadows, I'm not as extreme as you, but I was thinking the same thing after these first batch of 2K screens. I looked at the full-resolution ones on IGN, and you can see aliasing issues again with the slight blockiness on their close-up models and jerseys. Live has none of that with their models and their lighting looks ridiculous. 2K's smooth, but Live's crispy and just blows me away visually. Might just be a preference of mine, but I don't think the graphics war is even close this year. 2K always looks better right up to release though, so who knows?

As long as graphics are good enough, i could careless. APF doesnt have the best graphics, but the gameplay in that game is by far the best there has ever been imo.

I am not a graphics guy. As long as it looks decent, its all good. ITs all about gameplay, gameplay. If you dont have that right, then there is no point.

Heh, it's funny because I feel the same way about the animations. It's what's under the hood and how it feels that matters the most to me. I'll overlook some random weirdness if it still feels like I'm in control and can do whatever I have in my head without laboring and struggling with the controls or movement. But yeah, I'm not a graphics guy either normally, but Live's stills are turning me into one ha.

Believe it when I see it. Madden and NCAA still have those awful sideline 2d dudes and are using cut scenes. Live and NCAABball used them last year.

The debate is about technology, engines and graphics. EA focuses on certain things, 2k on others. It has been apparent what they focus on but the debate engines and who is using new technology is rather pointless.
