Best Use of Skill Points in 2K10 DC?

I just started playing the draft combine, and am using an "athletic" point guard. Some of you who are experts on this, please give me some advice on the best use of the skill points. So far, I have completed two drills and one game. Before the one game, I was a 39 overall rating. I got an A+ grade and completed both objectives, netting me roughly 1700 skill points. I mainly used those skill points on mid-range shot, 3-pt shot, handles, and on-ball defense. My overall rating only went from 39 to 40. I'm wondering how I will ever get up to the 58 overall rating that some people have. Do I need to be using skill points on "mental" attributes, specifically things like offensive awareness and defensive awareness? I don't really see how those help in a player-lock mode, but do they help your overall rating and draft stock enough to warrant spending points on them? Any other attributes that I should focus on increasing? Thanks!

I think the best thing you can do in DC is specialize in something. For instance using most of your points to raise up ball-handling. You've raised a wide-range of skills which won't translate well once you get to training camp. You'll just be a terrible player who's only improved to horrible. But on my Slashing-SG I've taken his lay-ups and shoot in traffic way up into the mid-80s and I rarely miss a lay-up. If you do something like that with ball-handling or just mid-range shooting you'll be able to dominate that section of the game and build around it.

Also Shot Consistency in the Mental stats is an important one. Raising it takes away randomness in shots. Allows you to go onto shooting streaks. And it's normally extremely low on players. I think it might even start at 25 for most people and that means you'll miss a lot even with perfect release.

Just try to focus on way facet of your game, then when you get in the NBA build around that. You don't want to be mediocre at everything... I think anyway.

Thanks for the input. I kinda like that idea. I might just focus on handles and steals. That should go pretty well with the speed/quickness that my guy already has. I can always develop a jump shot in years 2 and 3....he he. Still not sure what to do about offensive/defensive awareness. Should I spend any points on it ?

The way to raise your overall rating is by raisng Offensive and defensive awarness. They have always affected overall rating in 2k games. I use to lower them in association to make a trade go thru or sign a player for cheaper.
