Re: NBA 2K10 Screenshots: Starting 5 Player Faces
Just thought I'd repost this excerpt from the behind the scenes preview. When looking at player faces, the only fair gauge is the profile picture of the player in the game. Most of the time, that is the same picture they used to map the face and thus the look they're going after. If someone's expression in the picture 2K gets is off from how you typically see them, then the model probably will be too.
Backing up the bank of behavioural elements were another outfit the 2K team brought in for help, Image Metrics. This team of specialists - who have previously worked on the GTA franchise - were charged with ensuring player's facial animations and expressions were realistic. Under the supervision of the 2K Sports art team, the goal was to have player model's facial expressions match their real-life tendencies. If player X is a surly type, having them running up and down court with a cheesy grin plastered on their face is a sure-fire way to creep out fans of the sport.
In broader artistic terms, NBA2K10 is viewed by members of the art team as a shot at redemption. As one staffer put it, in recent times the 2K Sports team went from being the kings of likenesses "to goats" as the tools available failed to match the ambition of the producers. Ultimately, the team scrapped the old approaches from years past and built a new, higher resolution foundation.
The broad process remains the same: for heads - the most important part - a 3D model is created. The NBA supplies 2K Sports with three photos for each player - front, left and right. The player face gets mapped to a texture, which then is manipulated in place over the 3D model and tweaked to reflect the real thing.
As for my opinion, i'm not mad at all about the Pierce model, as that is only one screen and no game IMO has ever had a decent likeness of PP. I read someone post that Caron looked good in years past and not 2k10? His skin shade is too dark but the actual face is the best likeness in a game yet.Last edited by Tha_Kid; 09-26-2009, 09:37 PM.Comment

Re: NBA 2K10 Screenshots: Starting 5 Player Faces
Many faces are off but in all reality when your playing the game you can't really see their faces in a manner that would affect enjoyment of what appears to be another solid effort by 2k.
For me its the basketball X's and O's and animations that capture my attention...I don't think 2K spends as much time on their graphical player quality as Live but the gameplay, animations and presentation should make up for that.
Since we are on faces...How da hell they mess Kobe up and he's on the cover?Comment

i dnt knw where i read it,but sum1 said the players faces were either spot on or horrible...couldnt have said it better, although iwill add that some seem to only need some minor tweaks to get them to acceptable.
that said, the is no excuse for not getting ALL the superstars right,u have to at least do that...
DWade looks like Martin Lawrence LOL,the top half of VC's head looks like 1 of those aliens from Mars Attacks! LOL, and KOBE IS HORRIBLE,HOW THE HECK DID 2K ALLOW THIS?cover athletes r supposed to b the most accurate in the game,he looks like usain bolt LOL......and is it me or do some players eyes seem popped out?
please patch the superstars at least, plzzzz, its funny but not funny at the same time cuz i knw some of the players who got an early copy r lookin at themselves like THAT IS NOT ME...Comment

I also like to co-sign on the gerald wallace model especially since bobcats is my team of choice.....I think that 2k did a decent job with most players but for the players such as Deron Williams, Devin Harris, etc. 2k prob took a step backwards....Deron WIlliams was ok last yr now is he TERRIBLE!!! as well as Devin Harris......
p.s. And u guys seemed to never get Danny Granger right but at least he is not dark-skinned like yall made him in 2k9( just as a hint: Granger and Melo are actaully the same body type and skin complexion) Oh YEA...And wuts up wit AMARE STOUDMIRE's SPECS????He has to play with now since the eye injury.....Hate to say it but LIVE has u guys on that oneComment
