I spent a few more games playing the demo and I left disappointed.

I think I have pinpointed the issue that I am having with it.

The controls are, in fact, better than 2K9. however...

The defense still feels sloppy and the game lacks flow.

The post control is more intuitive than last yet, BUT...

Posting from anywhere outside of 10 feet is almost impossible. The random animations that you slip into while trying to post makes it look even more disjointed.

My overall impression is that 2K's fluidity is due to having lengthy animation strings. This can be both good and bad. While visually, it looks nice, it often looks awkward when you find yourself branching into a brand new contextual animation that doesn't lead in well...

It leaves you feeling like you are fighting the controls; feeling like you are trying to avoid triggering a particular chain rather than executing moves...

You have to take more time to learn how to play the game...you don't know what you are doing yet.

The more I play it, the more I love it.

I saw unforced mistakes, an overhead pass by the CPU that went out of bounds and other things that I really enjoyed. This game is really all that - I love it. It's not perfect (e.g. what's up with those shooting percentages), but I love the fact that it seems smarter. I love that feeling of setting up a shot, passing the ball around or finding the open man. It's awesome.
When the game is on the line, winners want the ball.

Re: NBA 2K10 Demo Available, Post Impressions Here (360)

I'm really disappointed with the demo overall, despite a few bright spots.

            Bright Spots

-The graphics are smooth, and the same goes for the animations. I feel like I'm much more in control of this game as opposed to last year.

-The post game is much improved despite the fact that hook shots are almost unstoppable

            Negatives

-The shooting percentages are just terrible. And as we can see from Pasta's video, it's not just the demo. Can sliders fix that? Sure. But c'mon now. 82% on All-Star!???

-What's wrong with the passing!? Time after time someone drives into the lane with a clear look at the basket, and passes it out to a guarded teammate who, of course, makes the shot because that's all I've really seen so far.

-Alley-Oops are nice, but i just saw two where Kobe stopped at the free throw line, tossed it up in the air, only to have Ron Artest charge in from three-point land, morph right through Kobe, jump, catch, and slam.

-Defense.....why play it? Not only is it very difficult to stay in front of your man, but even if you do, the CPU makes the contested shot anyway.

I play off a little on defense and don't use the LT much if at all.
                  I rarely go for steals.
If they set a pick I'll switch to the picker's guy and try and show on the ball handler.

I icon switch my players really fast which helps.

                      Well...here are my impressions.

Overall - I was impressed. I mean REALLY impressed. I think for me...because I never played 2K9 (last time was 2K8 and loved it), it's fresh to me. It looks...from a graphical standpoint...impeccable. And despite no commentary...I even enjoyed the P.A. announcer and crowd chants.

                      Graphics - 10
Player faces are nice. I saw David Lee's face in Steve's video so I think graphics probably deserve about a 9 but because overall the game is so "shiny", I'll give it a 10.

The court looks nice. Arena looks nice. I really don't have a complaint in the graphics department. The graphics in this game are WAY better than the competition.

                      Gameplay - 7
Yeah. I have a huge issue with the controls in this game or lack thereof. I don't like Isomotion. And I'm not digging how they implemented momentum.

I will say the bigger players feel like they have weight to them which is why I didn't rate it lower.

Scoring in the post is easy which leads me to believe this is going to take Major slider work (and time) to fix.

                      Steals are done lovely.

Passes are too pin-point. And there is no head tracking . Okay so you have this pin-point lead passing but guys never turn their head around to receive the ball???

                      AI - 4
I could lump this with Gameplay. Although I like the off ball movement, I'm not sure if I think it's Authentic off ball movement. Just seems a bit random at times.

Something with the logic here on double teams and in general. I was using the Magic and Bynum had a mismatch in the post with Jameer guarding him. No double team came. Bynum passed the ball to Kobe who was beyond the 3 point line. Kobe shot a 3.

Then there are times when doubles seem to come automatically. I dunno...I just didn't understand it. Sliders?

                      ---------
All in all...I really liked the games I played. I think with alot of Slider work...guys are gonna have some fun with this game.

I think alot of the disappointment I have read is due to the 2K diehards being "too used" to this game. Because I skipped a year, I'm enjoying it like a new game.

I enjoy the demo but I won't be getting the retail. If I do get it...it'll be after a price drop or guys are done doing sliders. I just get the feeling like guys are going to have to put months of time into doing sliders and playbooks here.

I also don't think each game will play out differently from what I have seen from the retail videos and the demo. The games I played seemed very similar to me. Too similar. I want different guys to dominate me in EVERY game I play. I simply don't see that happening.

I also don't see really physical play that I'm looking for. Guys do go for boards hard and such. It's just that with so many players feeling "heavy" I would expect there to be much more phyiscal stuff going on.

This looks to be a solid game though.

Second the complaints with the double team. I was guarding Howard at the top of the key, after 5 seconds of him standing there the cpu decided to double and gave up an easy dunk.

                          Super lame.

An "I been on NBA 2K since the Dreamcast days...I know EXACTLY what I'm doing" is just an obvious way of showing your disguise as a player of the competition who happens to do not like 2ks controls ... as a "long life 2k user" you would have known that not only do the controls have changed troughout every edition, they have greatly changed from last year ...

If I have been missled to an errous interpretation of your comment, then please forgive me ... but, even then, the comment refering to your previous post was on point: you need to learn how to play 2k10 ! ...

In the retail version you would have to turn the double team help to off to prevent the unneeded help defense which gives up easy baskets. It happens too often in demo.

It won't be a perfect game... where perfect is very much "subjective". So i plead with everyone out there to try to look for the positives and not bicker about the negatives. If anyone has a strong negative statement to make, make it with your benjis... don't buy the game. Same goes for Live.

The demos are strong representations of what the final product will be. I personally am yet to see a perfect game... 2k9 added some new animations and regularly updated player ratings but they took out the lobbies and the game was a cheesefest. The servers have always been an issue which i hope have been ironed out in 2K10. 2k9 was not a step backwards in my humble opinion. From the 2k10 demo, i think the team has done a good job but they could have done better considering how they're competitors completely overhauled their game engine( EA is a HUGE company. Visual concepts are tiny so bear that in mind). Did 2k take a step forward or regress? I think they did with 2k10 but not that large a step.

My preference is a playable online game with absolutely no cheese avaiable, and a high difficulty level. lobbies present and so on...

But this year is a great year. Two playable games that would appeal to different people. It's great.

In the future, 2K should release the demo sooner than later...it gives them the opportunity to get quick feedback from gamers as to certain issues that could be fixed before game launch. 2K should try to be more responsive to your comments as in the past few years, they leave many gamers feels as though " yea they got their money so they'll take their time to get the servers back up" .... and so on. Visual concepts have a smaller human resource... 80. EA probably has 3 times that number. However, at least they should honor their loyal fans by being more interactive and "user friendly."

Pro Evolution soccer was where Visual Concepts are only a couple of years ago. Konami is the publisher of Pro evolution soccer. Seabass and his team consistently created a game that was smoother than fifa 10 until fifa 08 hit the shelves. Pro still had the edge because it felt less robotic and more realistic. They're online support was non-existent. Servers were not enough and many games were laggy. Fifa 09 came into the picture and many bid adieu to PES. PES 09 was released but it was the same issue, more animations less online components, the master league was basically the same as from previous years...little to no innovation. Fifa 09 crushed PES 09. and it looks like it will stay the same this year.

Smaller companies like visual concepts and the developers of PES always put up a good fight in the beginning. but they cannot get too comfortable because when the giants with a ll the money figure out how to deliver a better product by either cajoling out of our employees to join theirs or simply finding new blood to stir the ship ( Peter Moore), these smaller companies will suffer the dearly. THat is why its important to show love to your customers by being as interactive as possible. Interaction and problem solving can help make the product better and better by a long shot each year, rather than by a foot or two.
2K fans are some of the most loyal fans in gaming and 2K should do well to keep it that way.

                                Sorry for the long post.
