Re: Official NBA 2k10 Impressions Thread
Playing it right now, only a quarter into the game, and it feels the same to me. There may be differences, but if there is, i am not the type to pick out if one game feels more vibrant or this dude looks better on this system. I just feel the flow of the game and to me, its the same.Comment

Re: Official NBA 2k10 Impressions Thread
These were my impressionable and highly subjective impressions after my first couple of games of 2K10 when I first laid my hands on the game yesterday.
http://www.operationsports.com/forum...ag-game-3.html
As you can surely see, I was emotional about the framerate lag that occurred whenever there was traffic in the paint. After consulting the OS forums and reading up on the remedies, i.e. installing the game to the HD, and turning of key zoom in broadcast camera angle, the offline gameplay as a result, has been nothing short of bliss. Day 2 two of ownership, having finally shook of the initial shock of the game feeling and playing differently from 2k9, has completely elevated the game to a whole 'nother level. After logging considerable hours in practice mode with the Jazz, mastering their intricate playbook (all team playbooks are quite expansive in 2K10 this year), I decided to play the feature game on NBA Today, 2K10's new feature of integrating the real life NBA schedule in the game. The feature game just so happened to be Jazz V. Nugget. I fired up the game and was just enthralled with the new dynamic commentary; Kevin Harlan and Clark Kellog of 2k10 have set the bar for years to come with sports video commentary. If the commentary continues to adapt and incorporate the leagues story lines and standings' horse race's, then I do not foresee a reason to ever put the game on mute. I hope that the new commentary is not deemed to be an afterthought that is over looked when the reviews start to pour in. Visual Concepts went work on the games' audio this year; what with your ability to add your own custom music and stadium sounds, the replay value of the game will extend infinitely.
I am not really a graphics wh*ore, so I am going to refrain from getting caught up in the engine talk regarding 2K10's graphics being similar to 2K9's. Truth be told, the jaggies that are present on all HD displays (playing on a 42" Sharp Aquos HDTV myself) still find it's way in this years version with the difference being that the court logos and emblems are now displayed in true HD resolutions. Even with the annoyance of the jaggies, the reduced player size models and facial animations mimicking emotion more than compensate for the lack of noticeable graphics upgrade in the form of "instant eye candy." In motion, we all know how life-like the game is due to the new gorgeous mo-capped animations. Couple that with the unique player signature styles, both pre-game and during the game, and the immersion of 2k10 is simply a wonder to bestow. Already, I have had friends and my roomate inquire about when the NBA season started, only to have me explain to them that I was playing a video game...lol. The fidelity to the player likeness and court stadiums (aside from a few nit picks), will fool the basketball afficionado and casual observer all the same.
As for gameplay against the CPU, the combination of player tendency data retrieved from 82games.com and the expanded spectrum of player attribute ratings with a floor of 25 and and ceiling of 99, has so varied the CPU AI and attack, that I might actually consider delving into Association mode this year, in addition to my prefferred sim online leagues over atwww.xboxlivesportsleagues.com. In my games so far, the superstars have embraced their dominant roles and the role players have picked their spots to contribute. Even though the CPU is averaging 50+% of their point in the paint (playing on superstar-10min quarters), it doesnt seem so pronounced because of the addition of more off the dribble shots and midrange shots in general. Avoid heeding the advice of fellow OSer's in regards to turning down the CPU shot sliders at your peril. If you dont lower the shot sliders, you will be grinding your teeth with frustration wondering why in the hell the CPU refuses to miss shots, contested or not. This is the result of their ungodly and unrealistic perfect releases that will demoralize you if you turn it down a notch, especially on the higher difficulties.
One noticeable change in gameplay that grabbed my attention, especially during hum v. hum games, was the increased effectiveness of guards with good dribbles that render their iso motion so potent that staying in front of them with ordinary defenders is a serious challenge; with unathletic bigs, you might as well tape your ankles, because they will be broken without a doubt.... The Chris Paul and D Will caliber PGs will be a treat to utilize this season, only if you have put the time into iso motion, which is LT trigger centric this year as opposed to RT trigger centric in 2K9.
After all of the accoloades, I would be remiss to not note the gripes that I hope VC will address soon in the form of patches and server maintenance. Having a strong preference of online gaming, namely, the sim aspect of online in the form of leagues and strictly playing fellow OSers', I really hope that the frequent disconnects of online custom games are alleviated, although I am not hopeful seeing that only a fraction of the online user base has the game. I am cautiously optimistic, but as has been the case in the past, online always seems to be the last feature of the game to fully function, long after release of the game. See the online team play debacle as a source of my anxiety over online gameplay bordering on the verge of being considered broken.
All this analysis of this game, and I havent even gotten the chance to delve into the My Player Mode as well the most slept on feature year after year, the online leagues that are coupled with the 2k league websites. As you can see with my previous sim leagues, evidenced by link below, I am a veteran 2K bball gamer and am by no means burned on the series in the least bit, in this the tenth anniversary edition of the game. Ironically, 2K10 has re-lit that fire in me for bball gaming that I don't anticipate diminishing any time soon.

Re: Official NBA 2k10 Impressions Thread
There was an update, I guess it's a patch... I noticed I can win tip-offs now, so they fixed that, other than that I have no idea what the update was for. I truly don't play online so I didn't even connect to xbox live until later in the evening.. when I saw someone mentioned an update. As soon as I got connected I saw the update and noticed I can win tip-offs now, anyone can confirm this?Comment

Re: Official NBA 2k10 Impressions Thread
One thing Im loving is the commentary, as other have mentioned. They talk about most players, giving their history, cool stories, facts, stats, etc.
One funny moment was that Danny Granger made a layup and his momentum took him forward, and he hit the guy that wipes the floor. He dropped his mop as he fell over. Eventually he gets up, grabs the mom and walks onto the floor and wipes it down. lolPSN: Peji911Comment

Re: Official NBA 2k10 Impressions Thread
Remember all my posts will be for offline mode, I never play online because well I never got over the experience from 2k3, and Madden experience with people cheesing, I vowed never to play again until they fix this.
We shouldn't have to turn the ZOOM key OFF, this NEVER happened last year, how did they break this?
The only modes I see playable and FUN are Nose Bleed, (NO Lag what so ever please try this out guys).
2K cam mode has SOME lag but shows the graphics over the game better, the default cam that it ships with has NO lag but looks like crap.
There is one camera mode that looks so amazing that looks almost life like but it's so choppy it's unplayable.
Please patch this quickly... I can see they made advances in the game, but we cannot truly SEE it if every thing is lagged UP!.
I know the over head passes cannot be fixed until they rebuild the engine, but it seems extreme this year.. maybe because more player movement?
I'm going to rip this to the hard drive and clear the cache as people said, but I refuse to shut off ZOOM in the KEY, I've always HAD and used it and it's where most of the detail happens!
I will post an impression, with the cache cleaned and off the hard drive, and of course 720p mode as I usually play on that anyways.
Again it's CLEAR they made major changes and it SEEMS for the better, but these truly cannot be evaluated until they fix the frame rate issues.
I know many will be shocked and horrified like I was, and felt depressed .. then I gave it another shot on a different camera angle and it got MUCH better...
I'm positive 2k can fix this with patches, and I agree we need more RAM because 2k really animated the crowds/arenas and player bench area. - I feel this is what's causing the frame rate issues.. Until then we can not see the true beauty of the game.
I wouldn't mind great frame rate, with ugly crowds, or even toned down a bit, and I do think we need the high def logos and brilliant courts,I can do without extensive detail to players on the bench if this means top notch frame rate.
I'm a game play JUNKIE, I would sacrifice this any day to play without frame rate issues.
Closing note, I bought a CONSOLE version so I wouldn't have to make sure my machine was power enough, ripping a game to the hard drive, clearing cache, turning off zoom in the key.,, c'mon guys this sounds like a P.C problem ... not a xbox 360 problem!
What about people without a hard drive with the arcade version? You're screwed if they cannot patch it. Luckily I have a hard drive, but now I must delete Fight Night 4 because I don't have enough space after all my downloads.
This better be worth deleting fight fight night 4 and again I will post impression if this does help!
Until then, the people who cannot get past the frame rate issues, try Nose bleed, works flawlessly, and 2k cam shows how the game COULD be.Comment

512mb of ram in a console is not exactly the same as looking at a pc with 512mb or ram..to entirely different species when it comes to harnessing videogame engines and how well they take advantage of the hardware...especially static hardware thats all the same in a console compared to the various hardware config's pc's have.
Example.. last years pc version of 2k9 had framerate issues on my monster rig with 8gb of ram, Qx9650 Quad Core Overclocked to 4.6ghz, ATI 4870X2 2gb videocard..yes it still had frame rate issues... it surely wasnt because of my hardwareLast edited by Moegames; 10-01-2009, 07:13 PM...You win some, you lose some
