Re: Official NBA 2k10 Impressions Thread

I haven't had any framerate problems, on or offline.

    *knocks on wood*

Still in the practice/scrimmage/feeling out period, but so far I love it.

One funny moment was that Danny Granger made a layup and his momentum took him forward, and he hit the guy that wipes the floor. He dropped his mop as he fell over. Eventually he gets up, grabs the mom and walks onto the floor and wipes it down. lol
I did a leaner going towards the baseline with VC...he lost his balance, jumped over the camera man, and almost fell into the crowd.

My gripes as a casual gamer...
        - Everytime the AI throws the ball at thier post player, my SF or SG or PG would go behind my PF or C (depends on whoever is holding the ball either the PF or C AI) for help defense. The problem is that when the AI post player pass the ball back to the perimeter, it leaves the AI open than the ocean to take the shot. For example, I am playing against IND (my team is BOS) and Josh Roberts is the post player covered by KG. Once Josh Roberts recieves the ball in the low post, PP will go behind KG for some reason like KG needs help defending this sloth. I left the defensive playcalling to auto, so that might be the problem.

        - Fastbreaks could really need some improve coding. Player AI in my team still stops in the middle of the court instead of going all the way. Rondo stole a ball and run straight to the rim. On my way, I saw Rasheed Wallace following from behind and I figured I will pass it to him since it is a 2 in 1 fastbreak. Lo and behold, Wallace stops on the 3 point line arc.

        - Now about this defensive LT thing. I hated that now you have a limit of how many times you could use it. There is this yellow bar that decrease the more you hold the LT thing. I have heard it affect your stamina or something.

        - This autosaving in the Association should have the option to be turned off. I hated the idea that everytime I edit player/s, the game will go to autosaving to each and everyone of them. And yes I already turned off the autosaving feature. But it is still active in the Association.

The good part of the game...

        -The spacing is good.
        - The trading spree is now gone. However, 2K need to add logic in the trade system. Just today I recieve an offer from SAC offering me Kevin Martin and Nocioni for Ray Allen. I know our current economy is hard for NBA teams, but I don't think teams saving money is an official feature of this game.

        - The atmosphere is better including the lights.

So far this are my impressions of the game.
thanks for the impression bro. as for the the AI teammate giving a help D in the post, i have read in the forums that double team's default is ON. so you should turn that OFF or AUTO. Hope it helps

I agree. Try holding the LT when you move around in small spaces.

The LT seems to activate those contextual movemenat animations they took out from the normal movement of 2K9. Once I discovered this, the controls felt alot more familiar.

I can't get any penetration with Bron, my jumpers won't fall, and the CPU PG is collapsing my defense and finding the weakside shooter on almost every play. I scrimmaged the Bucks on Superstar for a half hour...it was brutal.

Peeps who have the game, what level are you playing? I think Im gonna be an "All-Star" player this season, lol...

It is VERY, VERY difficult to stop the CPU from breaking down your D.

If the ballhandler gets even the tiniest step, help comes over and creates and open shot somewhere else. Seems like "help creates shots elsewhere" mechanic was a big focus for the programmers. The incessant backdoors have been replaced by incessant wide open jumpers based off your scrambled defense.

The AI also doubles down on bigs in the paint quickly. You have to go in and put "never" on doubles and call for them yourself, cuz the AI will bring help from the worst places. Its alot like Live 04 and 05 where bigs are frequently doubled immediately.

It's a challenge, and I like it...but it can also be frustrating to maintain the proper space on the ball. Off ball defense is a Godsend in crunchtime, lol.

                Another thing...about the PnR D.

The CPU will someteimes be set to "trap" the ballhandler, which lets the screener roll to the basket uncontested. The problem is that a trapped ballhandler can pass out to the cutting big 99% of the time..rendering the trap useless. Hopefully they can patch the pass success rate out of the double or that PnR trap is completely broken. Let me say this before certain fans take this and run with it...

THIS DOES NOT MEAN ALL PNR DEFENSE IS BROKEN!!!!

The CPU doesn't always trap like that, and it gets wise after you burn them with it a couple times..but you better manage your own PnR defensive settings or you will get roasted.

One more...on Superstar, it's still difficult to break down oversized defenders on the perimeter. One thing I loved about Live is that bigs have no chance if they get swiched up on the wings...not in 2K. On Super, even Bogut can stick with Mo Williams.

I started creating that mismatch so I could test this specifically, and it may be that I just don't have the dribbling down, but bigs play up on you so you can't size up and stick one in a their eye like the other game, and you can't really punish them off the dribble.

                More on this later.

                      True.

Speaking of little things, if you hit the Y button with a smaller wing player, he will sometimes take a little gather step that looks lovely instead of always doing that heavy jump stop.

WOOT, You can really cause some ankle breakers if you work on the handling a bit,,,I just made B. Udrich fall with R. Westbrook, he got up and I hesitated and he reached again and stumbled..I 4got to save the replay though.

Calling an Iso works alot better than it has in the past. The player waives everyone out ot the way, and they all clear out, instead of standing in the middle of the floor like 2K9.

I played one full game on All-Star. Raps vs Blazers (home). I reduced all the shooting sliders to 45 as suggested.

                            Positives so far:

                            - great commentary
                            - much improved pacing
                            - on court presentation is superb

                            Negatives:

                            - ridiculous amount of lobs/ally-oops (Roy even did a unrealistic 360 layup off a lob pass)
                            - CPU shooting percentages are high (I blame part of this on me getting used to playing D)
                            - post scoring seems too easy

Blazers played the way they play in real life, so that was a positive as well.

The ally-oops are way over done, and this is going to annoy a lot of people. I hope it can be tone down.

I really need to learn the controls. I haven't explored iso-motion yet.

Are there sliders that deal specifically with alley oops this year? I mean besides reducing flashy pass frequency. A slider that specifically says something like Alley oop frequency?

I just hope there's a way to tone them down.... a patch perhaps if all else fails and enough people complain.

yeah there is a alley oop tendency. i think 2k anticipate this since 2k10 allow successful from a wider range of players and skill than 2k9. if you want reference look at the OS screenshots
