Re: Official NBA 2k10 Impressions Thread

okay this is my point of view, 2k just cant programm AI

i played with the first slight adjustments from i think gerret it was, anyways, depending on matchups i had a good experience and was pleased then i tested some other teams and it was horrible, i downloaded albys slider and again, it fixed the overpowered magic and i could challenge them. today i tried to stop the lakers with celtics - it was the most garbage experience i had by far with this game. no matter how high i set the def.awareness and tuned down on help defense my mates ran like headless chickens on defense.
bynum was EVERY frickin time in the key and got 2pts, i tried everything to prevent it but it wasnt possible.
    eg:
farmer is driving inside im with house fronting him, garnett comes to help, farmer had no chance at all but perkins leaves bynum for even more help D and of course he got the ball for the next easy 2pts i thought im stucked in a nightmare, just every time lakers scored in the paint - the defensive AI of the users teammates is totally broke and i got the evidence for this today.

i got to the conclusion that in nba2k u need for every possible team matchup an own slider setting and this is just a joke.
dont get me as a pure *****, first i defended the game against everyone who said this game is garbage but today i got it why ppl are saying this. im really disappointed and this was the last time i bought this game.

everything is topnotch in this game like commentators, shooting feeling, animations and so on but its worthless without proper AI, why do 2k improve everything but the AI, i just dont get it, they are in this point like EA, let it look good but ignore the most important parts like AI.

Re: Official NBA 2k10 Impressions Thread

I never read impressions threads until I have the game and play it myself . I do that because I usually dont notice issues until someone points them out, and then for some reason I notice them myself.

Having said that and not reading this thread I only have 1 question here.

WTF is up with the framerate?? I have fiddled with the camera options, have turned off the zoom in the key feature and nothing works. This is pure amature hour programming going on here.

No Im not a Live fanboy, last time I played it was NBA Live 95 on the Genesis.

There may be 100 positive things that this game has going for it, but the framerate makes it all useless and playing the game is an excersise in frustration. Flat out embarrising that something like this made it to the shelves in such a state.

Cutscenes, ANY play in the paint / key , highlights etc....all are super choppy. This should be fixed immediately.

Re: Official NBA 2k10 Impressions Thread

It's already being addressed in the patch. For some reason it is hit or miss. Could be your camera angle? On default, turning key in the zoom off helps. Also, saving the game to your HD works (360).

No one knows exactly what's causing it, but it is being addressed in 2k's upcoming patch, apparently.

Re: Official NBA 2k10 Impressions Thread

Just started playing this game yesterday (it's my first 2K on the current set of consoles) and whoo boy, I'm having a lot of fun. After the patch comes out, I can see myself going several seasons in Association and My Player.

That said, I find isomotion to be a bit unwieldy this year. It's not an issue of getting used to it, I bought the draft combine and got plenty of practice. Love the depth of the post game, absoulutely despise that they got rid of a post up button. Contextual post up doesn't always work, it's frustrating to see your big man stumble around awkwardly when you just want him to put his back to the basket.

Also, not a big fan of how they implemented player movement- the turbo bar is an excellent idea, but the actual movement is on the slow and clunky side.

Re: Official NBA 2k10 Impressions Thread

I have been playing 2k for years, and I have some very simple suggestions for the gameplay that could greatly improve the quality of the game. I am a passionate gamer and I really want the game to be as good as possible. I am a fairly smart guy, and I just think these 3 simple fixes could take NBA 2k to a whole new level. And they are EASY fixes - not even major changes.

Just a warning, I will be mentioning some things about NBA Live in order to make my point and better explain what I'm talking about.

there are 3 main problems I have with the gameplay that are keeping 2k from being a 9.5 or a 10.

            Here they are:

            Problem 1.) Jump shooting

Jump shot animations are still too slow. It takes too long for the player to plant his feet, gather, and then shoot. Jump shots should just be sped up so they are quicker and the "gather" part of the animation should be shortened a lot. I understand you want the sig shots to be accurate, but some of them are just too slow and take too long. I think the main problem is that it just takes too long for the player to plant his feet and gather before getting off the shot. Players should also shoot more "moving jumpers" based on their momentum. It seems like by default, a player will always shoot his "standing sig shot" rather than a variation based on his momentum.

It should be much easier to shoot a "moving momentum" jumper on demand. Live has added these "moving momentum jumpers" this year and they executed it extremely well. This is one area where Live just plain beats 2k.

In 2k10, I am able to occasionally pull off a moving jumper with the shot stick, but not all the time. Sometimes I get a moving jumper, other times I get a slow, spot up jumper - there seems to be no way to do the moving jumper consistently, and on demand - I want be able to pull off a moving jumper whenever I want, based on the direction I move the shot stick.

            Problem 2.) Fastbreak Passing

There is a very simple problem with the fast break passing that could be easily fixed. The problem is that when on a fastbreak, players will always stop running after throwing a pass. In real life, players do not stop moving when they pass, they pass in stride and continue moving at full speed toward the hoop so that they might get the ball back and score. In real fast breaks you might see 3 players all passing back and forth in stride without slowing down. Bottom line, if you pass on a fast break, that player should keep running and "stay involved in the fast break." As of now, once a player passes the ball on a fast break, he just stops running and he is no longer part of the fast break.

            Problem 3.) Dribbling Control

2k's isomotion is still too inconsistent and unpredictable. It is too hard to pull off moves consistently. The key to an enjoyable video game is CONSISTENCY - meaning, every time I move the stick a certain way, I should always get the same move every time - this allows users to pull off specific moves on demand (spin moves, etc) rather than getting a different move that they did not want. This unpredictability in the dribbling causes frustration and really keeps the game from being the best it can be.

Another suggestion - 2k needs to add a simple "size up dribble system". Live has a very good "size up dribble" mechanic - in Live, you simply hold down a button and your player will begin a standing "size up" dribble animation (player specific crossovers). You can then release the size up button and explode forward to blow by your defender. 2k should add something like this. I know it's hard to admit when the competitor does something right, but If 2k added this simple "size up" control scheme, it would help a lot. Do it just like I described - just have a "size up button" that you hold down, and as long as you hold that button, your player will perform standing crossovers in a looping animation that continues for as long as you hold the button.

That is all for now. Again, 2k10 is a great game, and I still think it is the best basketball game, but there are still a few things that can be improved. The fixes That I mentioned above are fairly simple fixes, but they would greatly improve the game.

I still find it way to easy to get to the goal even on Hall of Fame difficulty setting. I also find it annoying when the CPU shoots 60%-80% from the field. Adjusting the sliders helps with this but I don't want to have to do a research project just to make the CPU to act realistically. Another thing that I find disturbing is when the CPU attempts a majority of it's shots in the paint from back door cuts and simply trying to force it's way into the paint with iso moves. Even with the sliders tuned down for attacking the basket and taking close and inside shots it still does it way too frequently.

I'm not impressed with 2K10's gameplay at all. I have tried to search out a Developer to explain the defensive logic to me but to no avail. I have the competitor's game and there really is no comparison in gameplay even though 2K's presentation behaves more like something you would see on TV. I guess for the casual gamer, that is the most important thing so 2K has accomplished their goal. I said this a long time ago and this year's game confirms this for me.

I'm waiting for the patch to see if it makes a difference but for now it may be the first item I ever sell on Ebay.

Yes. The CPU defenders are WAY too "help D happy." They are always leaving their man to "help" another defender, even if the other defender doesn't need their help....they just leave their man all the time on D which leaves him wide open for shots.

This would be fine if you could fix it in the settings by telling them to "never double" and turning down double team sliders, but like you said, changing the settings doesn't seem to make them behave differently at all - so, tell me 2k, what exactly is the point of including these defensive settings and sliders if they dont actually make the players behave differently?!!!

Co-sign, this is especialy true for the CPU. The way they shuffle their feet is cumbersome. The pull up jumpers stand out because the other animations look so spot on.

                    great post blues.

As far as jump shooting goes though I personally have not had a problem pulling off momentum j's. Gathers should be sped up as you say.

As far as sizeup dribbles 2k does have them but I like your idea of making it similar to Live as far as the looping effect..

                    agree on fastbreaks
EA and 2k have the unfortunate task of trying to balance on a tightrope of fun and sim while trying not to fall 10,000 feet to their death. Instead of a safety net waiting down below there will just be angry customers quick to move out of the way and talk of their failure.

okay so some1 explain me this if you are saying u have such a great experience with the game cuz i really dont see how and i can enjoy the game with such a broken defensive user AI

yes, i changed the coach settings, they were perfect for the cavs, i lost to the lakers 104-96 and they scored about 44 PIP - it was okay though not great but ok.

next match i tested them against the celtics and then this whole mess again I COULD PUKE - really ....

1st quarter, 27-24 for me as cavs, boston had 4 PIP i was stunned cuz i got such a result the first time ever with nba2k, nevertheless - 2nd quarter:

the whole crap started all over again, marquis daniels staying in the key and hits 4 contested layups in a row and halftime score goes 54 - 50 for the cpu celtics

but the funny part just started now in 3rd quarter
no matter how well i played D i got pounded in absolutly every way in defense and offense. allen hitted like 90% almost regardless of defense - i'll be honest he had some open shots but even ray allen dont hits 10 open threes in a row in a nba game - he is still humen ...
but what got me the most to run amok is the fact that now the cpu played like cheat pure, every time the pass to a player in the key at the end of the shotclock and of course EVERYTIME a hit. i played perfect D sometimes (no overstatement if u belive it or not) to see how with 2 or 3 seconds left they magicly get the ball to garnett whos chillen in the key with varejao like they would be gay gangbros so he can dunk the ball and get the and1 - cmon this is a joke what else i can do - slidersettings, coach settings, double/pressure settings, lots of intense D and still they can do whatever they want ? does 2K's cpu have to be programmed nonstop on cheating the user ??? im getting even more dissapointed to see after so many ajustments to get no success at all to get even a bit of an nba experience with this game

82games.com real player tendencies and real life like D rotation ? ye sure dev team u should smoke less pot .......

so ultra hard 2k pros who are saying this game is so freakin genius tell me what to do, im not a noob and watching nba games all day long if i can so its not that i dont understand the game or cant play ....

The only thing I don't like about the game is the lead passing for the CPU. Getting a laser pass into the paint is way too easy at times for them.

Other than that I really don't have any issues with the gameplay.

After reading over the impressions the last few weeks, I'm still torn on which version (console) to get the game on. I've held off b/c of the patch (whenever that actually goes live), but with the season starting this week, I know I'm going to cave and pick it up. Does installing to the H/D on 360 and turning the zoom off make a good enough difference to framerate that it's worth the 360 version while waiting for the patch, or is the ps3 version good enough as is. I'm mainly an offline association guy, so I don't particularly care which system I get it for as long as it's playable.

I say go with what your gut tells you jwmcards . I made mines purely on custom music, but hey....... 2k just may throw that feature in for ps3.

Turning zoom off..... well it works for the most part, but to tell you the truth i've been playing on 480p normal on my 32''and 50'' toshibas. It don't look as nice as 1080p but i hardly ever have any slow down in the paint. I may sound crazy but I like it this way alot better........well till the patch comes out.
