Re: Official NBA 2k10 Impressions Thread
I've been waitin to get this off my chest for a while. This game is a head-scratcher on disc. There are so many things wrong with it that are just silly and inexcusable.
First of all, a lot of things on the patch didn't get fixed that they said would get fixed, like the Heat Check stats being numerical instead of percentage-based. I don't know why they even changed that in the first place.
The scoreboard disappears on dead-ball FTs, too. I have no idea why, and it kinda messes with my subs since I can't see how much time is left.
And speakin of FTs, never in my life have I heard a "You're gonna miss it!" chant when a player goes to the line in a road arena. 2K has a history of adding chants and crowd behavior and whatnot that you NEVER hear in an NBA game. They put in stuff you'd expect to hear in a college game. But this isn't college.
Movin on... I learned this online. A full-court, one-handed touchdown pass is more likely to connect to its recipient cleanly than a drive and kick pass in the halfcourt from the paint to the three-point line. Seriously. I've played guys who do nothing but run their guys as hard as they can once a shot goes up, get the rebound and LAUNCH to the other end of the court. I haven't seen ONE of those passes go out of bounds. Now I'm 6-2 online, so don't think I'm just ventin because I'm losin. Not at all. Just silly...
Also, every player is STILL prime Gary Payton on the perimeter defensively. Seriously. I played a guy last night, I had Cleveland, he had Denver. I put LeBron at PF and he didn't change his matchups, so I had K Mart and Nene guardin LeBron for about a quarter's worth of play. Not ONCE was I able to get past either of them without a screen. I'm not even bad at the game either. Trust me.
And the auto-friggin-post up. Good GOD. Who thought of this, and then who approved it? I think that of all the times I post-up, I intended to do so probably around 20% of the time. I think I've said enough.
Since we're on the subject, though... what's with that BS animation (or lack of) when I guess the game determines that your player cannot back down the defender? You'll move him back maybe once or twice, then your man will just STOP. He'll sit there dribbling making NO effort to get closer to the basket even if you're jammin the holy hell out of the analog stick toward the basket. I could understand if there was an animation where your player is TRYING to back down, but the defender is giving resistance (like in 2K7-- *sigh*), but there isn't. He just stops and starts chillin. Silly.
Now as I've always said, maybe if they actually TALKED to us consistently like the Live devs do, people wouldn't have to feel bitter about this kinda thing and just sit here and wonder "Why this?" or "Why that?"
Oh, well. I'm done.Comment

Re: Official NBA 2k10 Impressions Thread
Not to mention all of the nice "walking up court" animations we had for the last few years are GONE. There are four as far as I know:
-Repeated between legs dribble
-Average speed trot
-Phoenix/GS jog
-Slow-as-hell old lady walk
The problem is, the first two are VERY rare and cannot be activated at will. Why? There's NO reason for that as far as I can tell.Comment

Re: Official NBA 2k10 Impressions Thread
I wasn't sure where to put this, so I'll just put it here. Sorry if the bump isn't 'kosher' after so long. This game just never ceases to amaze me.
I'm playing an assoc game (Warriors (me) vs Magic(cpu). The shot clock is running down, and I kick it out to one of my guards for a 3, near my opponents bench. All of a sudden, a couple of players on the Magic bench get up and 'yell' at my guy as he's about to pull up for the shot! I'd never seen that before, and I've had this game since it came out. I was so shocked and amazed that I pumped and passed!
It's little details like that which 2K has down, and other companies (no names needed) don't, that adds so much to the game from a realism perspective. Like I said, this game never ceases to amaze me, I can't wait to see what they have in store for 2K11.Comment
