I think that will change after the patch. I believe Help Defense at 0 will end up becoming ZERO HELP DEFENSE.

Pared, if you get anymore info about this issue being addressed in the patch, please let us know. I didn't see this on the patch list that was released yesterday. The auto double team issue in the post is killing the game. Also the game autodouble teams if someone is getting beat off the dribble, now this is ok IF I have my coach settings for help d turned up, but this happens even with it turned to zero??? Im surprised the devs didn't mention this in the list since this a huge thing we all have been complaining about. This and the lack of defensive A.I. in the paint is what really hurts the gamplay in this game.

I think this is part of what is being addressed.

Seems like all the specific defensive items were left off for some odd reason.. I'll try and find out if I can get this info specifically.

My understanding of it:

Double team set to never, Help defense set to 0 (all the way left) - Your teammates should never, ever help unless you manually call for a double, right?

Thanks Pared, this is what caught my attention, there where no defensive items mentioned on that list?? I find this kind of odd, since this was one of the biggest complaints about 2K10 - the defense. Yeah if you find some info, please share. This has me concerned...

What are you waiting for, Christmas? Patch is release by then and you will be too busy to kiss anyone.

Anyway, I already give up playing this game including My Player for both PC and 360 versions. But with the ability to change sliders for the My Player mode on PC now, I might check it out. The auto double team is just unbearable and ugly. Whoever thought that auto double team is cool without the ability to turn it off in 2k development team should be FIRED/ FINED and never be given any coding or computer job, ever. Hell, don't gave that bum a job unless he is the one who thought of the My Player mode. But still, no paycheck for a whole year would be enough for the grief that creep has caused.

Well, its not really the double team thats bad. But the freakin way it was implemented. In the real NBA, players get double all the time, but they:

1). DO NOT go so far as behind one of your player's back under the freakin basket. They sometimes fake and/or go back and forth between their man and the inside the paint to help.

2). When a player really commits to double someone down in the paint, other teamates ROTATE and help guard the open man. Sometime they get there, sometime they don't, but they will NOT leave some guys behind the 3-arc with no one within 10 feet of them.

Help defense is great, but has to be implemented correctly. The biggest thing that there is no ROTATION from your cpu teamates whatsoever. Anyways, I've always have faith in 2K, so I hope the patch fixes most of this...then I'll be a happy gamer : )

OOOH, thank you for posting this Pared, if they can let us have total control of the double teamming and help defense that would be great. If you find out anymore defensive stuff that's being added in the patch, please post.

Not every team double teams in the NBA. Phil Jackson hates to double team bigs in the post. I watch alot of bball and all the years when the spurs faced him he played Duncan straight up the majority of the time. Also, this past NBA finals when gasol who is the size of Dwights left leg was defending him one on one.

The strategic strategy of the AI needs to recognize if Eddie curry is being guarded by dwight no double team is needed. whether the user is controlling Curry or Howard (unless the user assigns the double).

I personally would like to see teh double team up to the user for the controlled teams and for the AI teams it should not double until the players has shown dominance down low. No need for the AI to double Tim Duncan (me-the user) right away if Im not scoring down on that block. Now once I make y move the defense should collapse towards the hoop and sawrm me but if i just dump it there w/o shooting, it doesnt make sense to me,unless the coach is a heavy user of double teams.

Thats true, for the 2K10 patch the devs have to give the user more control on defense on the court and in coaching strategy. We should have total control on how much or how little we want to double team or have help defense.
