his problem is that he is mainly focused on playing on-ball Defense. In 2k10 the joy comes from now having to keep your eyes all over the court. The AI will set up open looks on constant, so NOW WE HAVE TO FINALLY PLAY OFF-BALL DEFENSE.....

off-ball D is soooooo nessasary this year...and it works like a beauty. You have to focus on everything in this game people, EVERYTHING

I appreciate what Smoove does for the 2K Community, but we could really do without the blatantly dramatic commentary. It starts to sound whiny. Saying "OOOO PLEASE!!!" a bunch of times is just childish and sounds ridiculous.

Born and I were talking about this. Both of us believe that constantly switching defenders against the CPU is what brings out the ugly defensive flaws in this game. He brought up the idea that the CPU doesn't make those boneheaded off ball defensive decisions against another CPU controlled player, so essentially controlling one player PER defensive possession might remedy many of the issues users are seeing with 2K on the defensive end

so basically play it like the combine...im cool with that since i like playing center..

I'd like to know how the AI handles itself when playing human vs human...

Re: Is defence really this bad in 2k10??!!

I don't have the game, but it was an issue with 2k9 and probably every other 2k. WE learn how to pay around it and play with it, but I have found it to be an issue. I rarely ever switch off to hold the defender who has the ball. I cover the same man the entire time on d, but players still regularly miss their assignments and forget to body up and allow the most ridiculous cuts. On the demo I have started to switch to keep with the ball and it has helped, but constant switching also leaves openings - so pick your poison.

My issue is this, I know your AI controlled players are not going to be perfect, BUT if they could just play HALF as good as the AI controlled computer components (I usually play Superstar and HOF) I would find it excusable. I have to work extra hard to develop a play and get a good shot off, and the computer comes back down and scores easily off a cheap missed assignment - at least give my AI guys the appearance of TRYING to play by making them run into a screen or a poor switch creating a mismatch from good set play. I know the computer is gong to hit some amazing j's with un-amazing players, even when the d is perfect - I accept that. And I'd RATHER that, instead of cheapness of the constant missed assignments, like my teammates are stoned or something.

looks to me that you just need to learn to play defense. Try not always controlling the guy on the ball.

I've been using this advice and think my defense has improved dramatically since getting the game. Initially I was trying to muck w/some of the various defensive assist sliders to cut down on the cpu getting wide-open shots. But since I started concentrating on minimizing the amount of defensive switching I was doing, defending the computer has come much easier. So much so that I have all sliders back at default except for the shot sliders, and I'm starting to feel I need to bump up to Superstar.

Yea there is no need to feel pressured into playing 100% on ball defense against the CPU. Maybe against a human but what is the CPU gonna do, call you an illegitimate sim player?

Defense here looks pretty good most of the time. I liked it when KG tried to score under the basket and 2 players sticked to him and you could see the physical D there (although Rondo was WIDE OPEN on the left wing 3pt line, and KG didn't pass him the ball for some reason, I think it was the CPU)
                      My Specs:

                      ZX Spectrum
                      CPU: Z80 @ 3.5 MHz
                      GPU: Monochrome display
                      RAM: 48 KB
                      OS: Sinclair BASIC

I'm playing Association with the Knicks and I've yet to encounter any of these bone head plays. Its probably because I always stay as the point guard on defense. I have to admit, you're forced to play off ball defense, the opposing guard is always on the move and doesn't just stand around like in 2k9.

Just tried controlling one player on defense instead of always switching to guard the ballhandler. This really alleviates the awful rotations. I'm currently playing Portland with Oklahoma City, and the Blazers are rarely getting those wide open three points looks like they were before.

Another FYI....I also have the double team set to never for everyone on the Blazers.

#1 reason I quit 2k9 after weeks of trying to "fix" it. CPU teammates that tried to "help" far far far far far too often giving up so many mismatches and causing so many rotation errors.. I'll be guarding a guy on the perimeter, a non three pt. shooting threat mind you, and I'll have just one second of lapse in guarding him and my CPU teammates "help" and essentially move away from the paint from where the guy they were guarding to "help" out.

It was utterly disheartening giving up on that game so quickly. the demo appeared no better but many other vids ive seen has given me some hope.

                              we shall see
