    scoring pg ?

am less than a week into playing 2k10 and my player mode is freaking addictive !! so far i've taken 3 swings at creating a player with whom i thought i'd enjoy playing.. athletic sf, scoring sf and scoring pg now.. its still early days in my new scoring pg avatar..

i'm rated 45 ovr and am now in training camp with the Blazers., 3 games in and my highest skill is Shot Medium @ 75. Shot Close and Inside are set to 73.. Oh yeah and consistency @ 75. (Speed & Quickness are at 75, but those arent values i've added to since the start). Layup, SIT, SOD are currently at 65.

Do you guys have any tips for progressing this guy ? What are the most effective skills to upgrade ? What skills wont matter too much to core gameplay - but will increase OVR dramatically..?

i'm presently averaging 15.3 ppg (@ .300 FG and .000 3pt%), 3.3 rpg, 2.7 spg, 19.7 apg (!!!) but 5.0 TOpg.. Of course all this is on 12 min qtrs.. any suggestions from you guys here will be welcome !

The easiest way to increase your OVR is to dump points into def aware and off aware that is the easiest way to bring up the OVR. I started my first guy as a shooting SG but scrapped him and made my current athlethic SG (the off the bat speed increase was worth it) and worked my points from the inside out how I saw fit.

Yep, and don't underestimate your physical attributes, many of them can dramatically affect how your player performs (speed, quickness, stamina, vertical)

And consistency is very important if you don't want to dump a ton of points into your shooting skills off the bat. If I were you I'd get consistency up to at least 90 ASAP (that was the first skill I kicked up to 99) and now when my player is hot, it's tough for him to miss. I have a 30 in 3pt shooting and he was still able to knock down a few threes while streaking.

Looks like you do not get 10 new drill entering the playoffs. Not a big deal since these games are basicially "bonus" games so, the Bulls dont have the D to get into the finals so I'll ride it out as far as I can. I am actually almost tempted to stick with them another season and not try and go to the nuggets just to see how many of the players that want to bail (odds are due to lack of minutes) actually do bail and who they get to replace them.

thanks guys..will get my con sistency fixed first.

eclipso, so the drills reset to ten every month in a season only and not in the playoffs? also on another note has anyone here experimented with the point forward player type... is that an easy player type to develop? does the ai recognise that position/player type or do you end up playing as an sg or sf? can you call plays?

Im not sure how its supposed to work with the drills since after the 10 you get for the D-league / NBA it sits at -1 and you dont aquire any additional ones like you are supposed to. It will be fixed in the patch but was curious if they gave you some going into the playoffs or not.

As far as everything else I can tell you that when you have the ball you can call a few generic offensive plays cannot do anything with play calling on D.

Does anyone know how I can check my contract status, or where I can opt to change teams? I have looked everywhere and can't find it. I got the 10 day contract over a month ago in-season and now I am starting for my team but not getting paid. How is that possible? or am I missing something blatantly obvious?

On a side note: The Insider keeps telling me that I need to make an important decision about my career but nothing pops up giving me the option.

As for the rebounding question I think strength helps some in taking the ball away from other players and moving opponents when boxing out or being boxed out. It is probably one of the less important rebounding skills probably but can really help in the post game on both offense and defense as well as some for finishing shots with contact. Vertical can help here a lot as it will allow you to outjump opponents and can also help a lot in blocking shots and trying to dunk over people.

As for the actual rebounding ratings these have really seemed to increase my ability to grab rebounds when I am out of position or in contact with other players or fighting the ball out of their hands. This has really helped out my offensive boards as now even being boxed out or not in great position I can still get my share plus I get anything where I do have great position as it really cuts down on other people being able to take the ball from me. Defensively it has really allowed me to play more help defense as I can now get back into good enough position to get the board away from my opponent a lot easier. It really seems to increase the area from which I can get the board.

Quickness and speed can also help some in trying to get around players before the can box you out or in crashing the glass from out of position.

As for the shooting, it is probably shoot in traffic and inside shot on a putback as you will generally not be moving at the hoop for a layup. The other option here is just boost your standing dunk and shoot in traffic and just dunk on the opponent when you get it inside.

No, drills set to 10 at the beginning and you occasionally, seemingly randomly, pick up drills throughout the season. Also, I have seen the drills reset to -2 and other people have reported -1s but I did get one of those back so I am back up to -1.

Yeah, those physical things can be expensive but they are worth it. Especially quickness and stamina for a guard. Also while shooting skills can be expensive there are a few cheap ratings that can boost your shooting ability quite a bit. Consistency is a big one that has already been mentioned but shoot in traffic and shoot off dribble can really be big too. The nice thing about those ratings is that unlike the actual shooting ratings that only improve one area of shooting these ratings improve your shooting everywhere on the court.

Another thing that will really help your scoring is balance. Throw some points into ball handling, layup, quickness, and shoot in traffic and that will make you a threat to drive. This will be enough to where if your opponent steps up to play tight d on you you can beat him for some easy buckets making him back off and opening up your shooting.

I've noticed that with such a low strength rating (mine is at 50) i get knocked down if an opposing player backs into me 3 times. Every time on the 3rd backdown my guy just flops Vlade style and the cpu player just lays it in. I've finally gotten my dunk rating high enough for the Shaq package (needed to be 85) so now i need to work on stamina, strength, consistency and rebounding.

I got the 5 blocks milestone easily last night. I've never blocked more than 3 in a game previously but last game i managed to get 6 in the first half alone vs the Kings.

Some of the goals are pretty much impossible at times. They told me i had to limit my matchup to 1 rebound, lets just say that Ben Wallace disagreed and had 9 at the half. :/

Just got destroyed by the Hawks in the first round, I was fine with the one and out but I am not fine with them shooting over 87% for the series and my teams avg tpg was 7.5. It turned into a totally diffrent game and it really pissed me off a bit. Just advanced to the second season and there were only 5 teams on the list for me as far as options go so I decided to stay with the Bulls and noticed that I am back on the bench and getting 3 min a game!!!

I know that will change but considering I was the team leader in pts, second in assists, 3rd in boards and didnt get lit up every game or turn over the ball a ton I am back to scrub status. Thats a bit disapointing but obviously the game is going by ratings and not what I had done through the season.

                          **EDIT**

Oddly enough as soon as I started the first game I was starting and played as I should have. Checked the minutes after the game and they were corrected.

Strength is really important for post defense. I got pushed around a decent amount early in the year with like 65-70 strength. I am up to 80 now I think, don't have it on now, but I do quite a bit better.

Some of those goals they give are kinda crazy. In my 3 games against yao and the rockets I have been told to hold him to 5 boards once and 7 points twice. Are these people crazy, hold yao to 7 points or to 5 total boards. I can see trying to slow down his offensive boards but what am I really going to do to stop his defensive boards.

Has anyone got the 10 block milestone? I have been getting really close lately, had a 6, a 7, and an 8 in my last 4 games but teams all decide to become jump shooting teams after a while. I think I need more speed and stamina to pull it off.

Sorry to hear about the loss. What difficulty are you on that they shoot that well? Was that the case during the season too?

As for the minutes it seems sometimes they reset the minutes and roles to match the overall ratings. This seems to happen any time there is roster change so I would assume the offseason would be included there.

One more thing that I would like them to change is they don't show your player's rank among all players or among his position in the player card. It would be nice to know where I stand overall cause I think I could be kinda on the rise being a center and not having that much competition. I am easily the best overall center on my team and probably would be or atleast be close on a couple other teams as well.

I started over(well my first dude is still there and I can play with him anytime) and yes u can have multiple player season. I went and played the combine again, and created a 6'5 pg(I was using a 6'8 pf before) and got drafted by the same team(wolves). I started over because I needed to change some sliders and the fact that I was on a 25+ game streak winning by atleast 25 and my guy was shooting 70% from the field. I bumped up on hall of fame. Plus I wanted my custom arena music in there. I learned one thing, rebound attribute is crap. In my first game in summer league, I pulled down 22rbs.. its all about timing. I wanted my dude to be a rich mans Stuckey.

In the draft combine, quickness was very very cheap to put up, so his quickness is at 92 and speed is at 90. I'm gonna try to work on my long range this time instead of defense first, because atleast in the summer circuit, it still was able to get to the basket easy. I like the fact that I get fouled a lot tho, big man don't usually get love from the refs in 2k bball games
