    Re: My Player Progression Strategy

Guys, I have a 6' 5 athletic SG, and I need help. What attributes should I focus on the most? Currently off the top of my head I think Im at these for offense...

    Shooting:
    inside -70 or 71
    close - 72
    mid - 74
    3pt - 42
    layup - 81 or 82
    Dunk - low 70's
    vert - 80?
    handle - 70(?)
    off hand handle - 65(?)
finish in traffic - maybe mid 60's or low 70's
consistency - 66 (maybe higher, but not greater than 70 I think)

Thats all I can remember. But want to be able to drop buckets, dunk, handle and all that. Every few games I upgrade a "D" attribute. My plan was to try to max out my scoring/handle then focus on the "D" part. Should I max out a single slot 1st? I got picked up by the Pacers on a 10 day contract, but they sent me to the D-League. Also, Im stuck only being able to play 5min qts, isnt this gonna be fixed in the update?

    Thanks

      Re: My Player Progression Strategy

Now I am hearing that the minutes may be fixed in the patch but it wasn't on the list so I don't know.

As far as improving your scoring what I would do is first throw points into shoot off dribble, shoot in traffic, and consistency. Not necessarily in that order but you can bump them all up pretty cheaply and they will help all areas of shooting.

After that I would bump the handles up enough to get better moves, then do the same with layup, then dunk. After that I would probably take the layups all the way up as with those other ratings that will make you able to finish at will. After that probably max out handles if it is cheap so you won't loose the ball too much.

After them probably work your way out putting points into each shooting area trying to boost them all up. By this point you will already be able to hit any shot when you are rolling but this will allow you to hit those when you aren't.

After that is done finish up the rest.

I started with shooting from the inside and worked my way out, when I started doing dunk / layup I made sure to add some speed as well as hands, strength and in traffic shot to sum it up in short.

As far as the quarter length there has been reports that we will be able to change it up from the 5 min that its at without having to restart but as of now I dont believe we know for certain.

            Re: My Player Progression Strategy

I play with 6' 5" 230lbs Athletic SG/PG for the Hawks, traded from the Grizzlies in the offseason. My overall is a 79, should be 80 after the game I'm playing as I type this. The one thing I wanted to say is you definitely need to improve your awareness if you want to improve in ALL facets of the game. It does have an affect, despite what other people say. Plus it increases your overall, which gets you more minutes; better position on the depth chart. Mine is pretty high, 80 each, but I didn't want to max it out in the 1st year or so, I'm increasing it slowly, a few points each year from now on.

As far as strategy as a whole, the thing is to improve what you do best so that you can see minutes. Minutes=Skill Points. At first my jumper was horrible but I could go to the cup at will. With the drills I increased my speed, and remember, I'm 8 games into my second season, to spd 85, quick 90, vert 92. As far as my player goes, they're capped for career at this but with it, driving to the hole is a breeze against all but the best defenders. I realized what I did best was score. I started to increase my shoot off dribble, dunking, layups, and shoot in traffic slowly but surely, with in emphasis on shooting in traffic because I was going to the cup so often.

So once I could drive to the hole with ease, I concentrated on my mid-range jumper. I think I got it up to 80 before I worried about my close and post shooting since I was killin' em with layups. Along with this I increased my perimeter defense. The CPU scoring on you is the easiest way to lose skill points. Once these were at a place I was happy with, I started on the small things, my post game, steals, blocking, rebounds, post defense, and the often overlooked strength, and I'm pretty sure strength has other intangibles besides not getting backed down. Another overlooked but crucial stat is consistency. I found as I increased this it was easier to shoot out of slumps, go on shooting streaks, and to hit my jumpshot period.

Recently, I've been improving my handles, ball security, 3 point shot, and post game. I'm getting close to being a threat anywhere on the court, with top handle and layup packages. Once I get a decent 3pt shot, I should be pretty much unstoppable.

In the last 20 games or so, I've been going toe to toe with the best SG's in the game. Won the position battle against Kobe last time I played the Lakers, and just last game gave Wade the business by posting him up 3 out of 4 times; back down, turn around jumper ala MJ. Swish! Increasing my emotion has actually increased my times to the foul line, so I think that may be true. To sum it up, I'm averaging 31pts, 3 boards, 7.5 asts, a steal, and almost a block a game for the Hawks. Joe's still getting his, we're 2 and 3 in All Star East SG votes, and we look like trouble for the rest of the league.

              Re: My Player Progression Strategy

After I win the championship this season I'm gonna type up a story of my My Player season cuz I swear, this guy has been through hell. Came into the league and accused of destroying a great Laker dynasty (taking them from #1 spot in playoffs to out of playoff contention), and now I'm on a winning streak in my second season, halfway through, atop the playoff picture with a revamped Laker team. I really figured this game out

Anyway, on with the ratings. I'm only going to list the ones I'm working on or have already worked on

Ryan "Mr. Perfect" Robinson (Athletic SG)

              Overall - 70

              Shot Medium - 94
Shot 3pt - 63 (takes 786 SP to raise now, IDK if I'm going to continue yet)
              Layup - 99
Dunk - 80 (want to raise it more but it costs too much and I dont really need more anyway)
Shoot in Traffic - 90 (without this, 99 layup didn't really feel like 99 layup lol, i still missed alot of contested ones)
              Shoot off dribble - 85
Ball Handle - 84 (don't use Isomotion as much anymore, just speed past defenders with my quickness. got tired of losing the ball
Off hand Dribbling - 73 (got tired of losing the damn ball)

On Ball Defense - 82 (cheap, helps lock on defense, and boosts overall)

              Speed - 77 (costs freakin 1700, F that)
              Stamina - 90
              Vertical - 99 (love it)
              Quickness - 82

Defensive Awareness - 56 (raised this with one games skill points and it boosted my overall 4 points. Im sure this will help me get subbed in whenever games are simulated and also after the patch)
              Offensive Awareness - 63
Consistency - 86 (prevents me from havin bad games. I still have one here and there though)

Thinking that Jerry Sloan didn't put me into that game, I went and checked the box score and saw that my player did play and he only had 3 points. What was that about? Is that supposed to happen?
When you see a game simulated, reload My Player before it autosaves. It's happened to me a couple times and it was when I checked a few things from NBA.com. IDK exactly how it happens.

And you only got 3 mins because they base minutes on your ratings whenever you're not manually controlling the game (this goes for when you're just watching a game from the bench also instead of simming to sub)

                    @ Ice Cream Truck

I think increasing your strength should also help you finish contact shots which are a decent number of contested layups.

                    @ PABryant

I will agree that concentrating on you strengths will make a player dominant, at least on offense. However, on defense you really need to spread it out more for a dominant defender.

As for the other intangibles from the strength rating the results of contact shots and 50/50 rebounds are effected by strength.

I think it may also dictate the number of and 1's you get as well. Not sure if it's all in my head but i think I've noticed strong guys like Lebron still make their shots more often after the foul than weaker players.

I may have missed it, but when the patch comes out will we be able to change sliders/difficulty during my Player? Would like to use Playmakers sliders during this mode, dont really want to start over cause im 25 games into the season. Hoping all these changes can take place during your current Game save.

That probably fits in with contact shots.

Anyone else playing on 10 mins? I think I'm getting realistic scoring with un-touched sliders and HOF difficulty. Most scores come in at low 100s or high 90s. I'm coming off the bench (for reals, I get like 5 minutes a game) for the Timberwolves and I'm wondering what everyone else is using for realistic ppg.

Also, has anyone been subbed in at center when they're actually a guard? Happened to me in my first NBA game. 6'2" me had to guard Yi . . . disgusting.

Also, is there any way to change shooting foul and off-ball foul frequency after starting your My Player? I think I'm seeing like 10 freethrows total per team a game.

I just had a monster game in the 4th Training camp game. I was originally drafted in the 1st round, 30th overall by the Cavs, but they let me go.

I decided to try out for the Warriors.

My last game I had 43 points, 21 rebounds, 5 assist, 4 blocks. It was an outer-body experience.
