As for points, if you want to be a dominant player right away it is best to choose one area and go with that. The easiest way to do this is offense, either shooting, driving, or posting. One thing that really helps any offensive game is consistency. it really helps you keep your player from going cold and keeps you from having off games. Once you get that to where you can really attack most defenses then either round out your offense to make you a more consistant, dominant scorer or try to go defense.

If you want to have the best overall rating then improve the mental ratings. This won't make you a great player but it will boost your overall for cheap.

Personally I try to balance it more so my player improves in all areas and is the best all around player he can be. This might limit my ability to dominate and take over games at first bu it allows me to put up decent all around numbers.

The last player I tried was a 6'10" back to the basket PF. By mid december I was a 60 overall, starting, scoring over 20 most games and having one with 38, grabbing double digit rebounds about half the time and being close the rest of the time, blocking a few shots here and there, around .8 per game, averaging over 2 assists per game and less than a turnover per game.

What I was doing was adding 5 points to an offensive rating, then 5 to defense, then 5 to physical, then 5 to mental. Most of my offensive ones went to the post game since that was my bread and butter but I put some into shooting and offensive rebounding as well. Defensively I spread it out between rebounding, blocks, post defense, and a little on ball defense. Physical I went mostly with stamina but put a little into vertical to help with the rebounding and shot blocking and a little into speed to help guard the occasional SF that I got stuck on and a little into strenght to help with the post defense. Mentally I went mostly with consistancy and a little into clutch offense.
when you say you are a 60 overall and starting, are you talking about the nba squad?? if you can make the starting 5 on an nba team with a 60 overall rating (and youre scoring 38 points in a game) it sounds like my player mode might be too easy.

im not trying to bash your or anything, i just havent got the game yet so i dont really have a good idea of what my player mode is like. i would think youd have to be in the upper 70's overall before you can start in the nba.

I'm going for an all-round PG, my stats are something like 20-6-8, most points coming from layups/dunks. I was thinking I should up my mide and 3pt range to give my game more depth but its so expensive!!

How expensive is expensive? The mid range should only be around 350 or so at that point shouldn't it? That is doable and you can probably pick up a couple a game there. However, shoot off dribble is I know around half as much as for athletic SFs so I would suppose it is probably similar for athletic PGs which would make is a cheaper option that would help with all areas of shooting. Shoot in traffic can help out as well but as a pg you can usually get enough open looks and with your height you shouldn't be that effected by pressure so this would be a secondary thing I would think. The other thing that you really need to improve to have any sort of mid range game is consistancy. Without it then a couple misses and you are really in trouble.

If you want to open up the mid range game you can start to hit decently with a 60 on mid range shooting and a 70 on shoot off dribble will allow you to create your own shots. Should really only take a couple thousand points to get there. Add in 70 consistancy which will take a few thousand more and you will be a very decent mid range shooter at least capable of making the defenses respect your shot opening up more driving and passing lanes.

im not trying to bash your or anything, i just havent got the game yet so i dont really have a good idea of what my player mode is like. i would think youd have to be in the upper 70's overall before you can start in the nba.
I was a 60 overall but I was over like 95 in inside shooting and 90 in low post shooting and 85 in low post offense so while my game was limited I would really put is some points. My consistency was also like 75 so when I got hot I just racked up a ton of points. But yeah, at that point it was too easy. I have adjusted sliders since then making it much better.

Same goes for standing dunk, they altered this alot.
At 65 you unlock the athletic guard one. I think athletic PGs start at like 50 or 55 and they can dunk so it is that or less for the rimgrazer one. I think somewhere around 40 probably

Oh nice, I'll probably set my target for 65 then.

                It's too easy imo..I'm 51 OVR (6'7 Athletic SF) and I have

                90 inside
                85 mid
                90 layup
                90 vertical
                80 speed
                70 ball handle

that's enough to get me the best PER in the league (47) vs Wade who's 2nd with 35..

This would make me lean toward the shooting between those 2 options.

Also, the shooting will make defenders play up on you more and can add nearly as much to your penetrating ability as the speed would. Speed would help out defensively a little more but the shooting would do more to round out your player.
Yeah, I know. It's just once I got into training camp (got drafted by the Grizzlies) and started chasing Rudy Gay around, speed/quickness looked a lot more attractive.

I'll probably wait on it though.

Guys did you notice that there is a "Fast Break" attribute listed when you look at your player via the leaderboards online? It isn't in the game.....

That's what happened to me chasing around Roy! But, I upped quickness more than I did speed. It's like a 2 to 1 ratio how many SP you need to up quickness vs. speed. The other thing I upped was on ball defense. I believe with on ball defense and quickness raised, you can make yourself into a pretty steady defender. My on ball defense is in the mid 70s and the quickness is in the low 80s.

I must say this mode is the best. So far my strategy has been simple, just go out there and try to end the game with an A or A+ and it has worked out for me. As far as on what I spend my points it really depends. I like to spend a lot of my points on Mental (Off Awareness, Def. Awareness, and Consistency. I also spend some of the points on Offense, Defense, so basically I just spread it around.

Just to let you all know my summer league went by beautifully I averaged about 15 points per game or so, but every game I received an A teammate grade. Training Camp was a battle, but some how I always performed better than my opposition, so I am assuming that is key to making the team. I saw players like Chucky Atkins get waived before me, so man that was interesting.

I made it out of Traning Camp straight to the NBA where I am now backing up Manu Ginobili and it is FUN as hell!!!... I am now averaging under 10 PPG, 3 RPG, 3 APG in about 12 MPG...

I do not know about you guys but I LOVE this mode!
