    Re: My Player Progression Strategy

Made it thru 2nd wave of cuts in training camp. (Sorry Juwan Howard)
How are you guys doing so far? I'm still a 52, but I upgraded my in traffic shooting and off hand dribble (?). Don't notice a big diff yet but I do seem to notice from Draft Combine to now. The game is faster but my player is playing within the situation more and not turning over the ball and making more shots. I love this mode!

      Re: My Player Progression Strategy

As far as block goes I think having played as a center with whom I raised the block ratings quite a bit as they improved he seemed to choose the right animation a lot more when making the help blocks coming from the side or blocks from behind, especially when it wasn't a matter of raising up as high as he could to block a shot but rather reaching over to get a hand on the ball or whatever. He also seemed to get called for less fouls blocking shots. As a PG I don't think it would be worthwhile at the beginning because most of your blocks will come from your man shooting where you just raise up and contest/block the shot. However, for a big man who gets a lot off of help D I would recomend it.

another question I was wondering. I like to drive with my PG but his shooting is horrible. I am working on my layup (at 80) but was wondering if i should upgrade my inside or close scoring to help with making baskets were I am driving to the hoop?

I did close first and the reason behind it is if your going to get stopped while driving typically (for me) its in the close distance range.

Nobody has a 70 rated man yet?

EDIT: And do they ever call you by your nickname? I hope they do when I get rated higher. 2K had my real life nickname in the game lol. My roommate was pissed like "No way thats bull****" lol

for finishing on drives layup, shoot in traffic, and inside shooting seem to be the main things you need. Also, as with any shooting consistency is important. Another thing I am not too sure about but I think might help is offensive awareness. It says it helps in reacting to double teams which may include help D on drives although I am not sure. I would put it towards the end of that list since I am unsure. I would say start with the in traffic and consistency since those are cheapest, raise them up a little then move to the inside shooting and go back and forth between the 3 until they are near where you want then start moving out to the close, medium, and possibly 3pt shooting down the road so you can pull up wherever you want to shoot.

Thanks. I did raise my Awareness to 80 (for both) right away because like you I am a strong believer in it and it helps my overall rating a lot so I could start faster. I did raise my shooting in traffic to 60, but should probably get that higher. Do you think Shooting off Dribble would help to?? I mean when you drive you are dribbling? And I need to get all my shooting up. under 61 except medium

off dribble might help but I have had success finishing in the paint without it. I think the off dribble is more for pull-up shots so you should probably add that in when you start moving toward upping the close and then possibly medium shooting. I don't think it plays in too much for the inside although it can't hurt to raise it a little since it isn't that expensive.

I was selected 2 round pick number 3 (Overall 33rd pick) to the Portland Trail Blazers. My PG is unofficially a combo Guard (PG/SG) and his consistency is a 80. Mid range shot is in the low 60’s and 3 point is low 40’s. Speed is not a problem (80’s) but I need a little help. From reading this tread, there seems to be a consensus on how to shop around for a decent scorer which is good but, I would like to know how do you guys get a bulk of your points? Is there a particular dill you guys focus on more or do you ball you a** off in those games and bank points to drastically improve you game and rating?

Also any suggestions (things I should invest points in) on how to make my PG in to a Monta Ellis type player. Thanks in advance.
I started with layups first then basicially am starting with inside ratings and working my way out with points based off something I had read in one of these my player threads. Its admitidly a bit cheese but I am now able to shoot well inside and short and am working on my medium now.

As far as getting the best points even on trips down the court where I dont see the rock I am still setting screens, getting good positioning, boxing out etc to still keep the points going forward.

If I would have kept my other SG who I couldnt get out of the D-league he would have been in the 70's by now but I opted to rebuild him as a Athletic SG instead of the shooting SG that he was.

I agree with you again kcarr, its cheap enough and it doesnt hurt to have the fundemental skill at a decent level.

                          Athletic SG

                          Top 5 ratings (Overall 52)

                          82 Consistency
                          81 Layup
                          80 Midrange

77 Speed (started off like that)

Also I'll mention my dunking is 71. I play for the Lakers right now and we are struggling. It's February and we are 9th in the conference. We traded away Bynum for Ben Gordon and the line up is now Kobe, Me, Artest, Gasol, and Powell. I'm starting to care less about winning now and just getting high performance ratings because it doesn't seem like things are in order out here and LA. Phil's nonchalant *** is usuallly propped up in his seat in 4th quarters not subbing in starters down the stretch. We often have matchup issues then and we can never close out a game. Cryin shame... I was running the Triangle offense for a while but now I'm just worried about my man playin good. Generally when he plays good though we have a better chance at winning anyway...

I really need that patch to come though, 5 minute quarters SUCK. I can't even compare how we're doing with the rest of the league!

Oh and does anyone have a free throw problem? The first freethrow always ends up being very late but the second one I do the exact same release and get perfect. This didn't become a problem til I got to hte NBA and it bothers me, I wanted to be a top freethrow shooter....

                            Re: My Player Progression Strategy

I'm 20 games in with my perimeter PF (62 overall), I'm still on the Pistons and he's finally starting to become a decent 3-pt shooter, I spent though it's getting a bit expensive to upgrade it any further...

He's a rebounding machine though (80 def. rebounding)... I pulled down something like 15 rebounds last game and am averaging 8 and 9 for the season.

I'd like to get his shot blocking up though as he's not a consistent force in that area.

I think my highlight so far had to have been when I:

                            - Blocked Antwan Jamison
                            - Ran the length of the court received the ball back and in-motion hit what amounted to the game winning layup.

(Final Score: Pistons 86, Wizards 85)

I've had some really nice games with 9 minute quarters, occasionally the scoring gets out of whack but I played another game where the score was 103-99...

My only gripe is the game is seeming a little bit too easy right now, right now we've got the best record in the conference and have only lost 3-4 games...

I agree here. Eventually, probably within the first couple seasons, all these will be highly rated anyway since this game allows your player to progress so fast.

I gave up on trying to win every game. When it comes down to the wire I cant get the ball (wide open in a good spot or right next to the ball handler) and the computer makes horrible decisions with it so I focus more on keeping my rating up.

I have a problem with free throws when its not the default camera, I cant seem to make it for the life of me; I wish I could just use the default for all the shots and not just the last one.
