I really don't blame Gamespot for the score. I would give 2k10 a 9.5 off a 1st impression but after the unplayable team-up, unplayable my player pick up games, framerate issues, freezing, and numerous other bugs/glitches I would bring it down to at least a 7.5 or 8.

How can it be a 7.0 when last year they gave nba 2k9 an 8?
That game also had these issues i've been hearing about.
I don't have the game yet(i'm from europe and ordered the US version) but I know a 7 is too low compared to nba 2k9 rating and nba live 10.

Gamespot is usualy right on the oney with their reviews. They dont over rate games like the other sites. But looking at this review, it looks like Live 10 is gonna be the one I buy this year.

And just for the record, Madden is not a bad game. Madden has alot of good thing but alot of bad things. I'd rather play Madden then 2K 9 anyday.

More proof why sports games reviews aren't to be relied on. I haven't read the review (and not going to) so shouldn't comment on it, but when I read the pros/cons or overview reviewers give on sports games it's obvious the games aren't being held to the same standards. I've read reviewers mention the need of using sliders to fix problems in a game like Madden - and not fault the game for it, yet it's painted as a negative when applied to 2K10. I haven't been able to bring myself to read a sports game review from any site since the Madden 10 debacle. I can't believe any site that tries to infer Madden 10 is better than 2K10 (including OS), but seems it's the same old status quo that must be maintained.

Fortunately the general game-buying public is letting their experiences speak for themselves and seeing past that. I don't mind whatever score a site chooses to give a game, long as all the games are held to the same standard. Year in and year out, that's never the case. Even in years where 2K clearly outclassed other sports games reviewers seemed to score the game based more off the ineptness of other titles rather than where 2K was quality-wise (speaking about most other sports titles, not all). Like Bill_Abner - I'm pretty sure in his review of Madden he mentioned the need to use sliders, and didn't hold it against the game. In fact he has his own slider thread in the Madden forum. Yet he plays 2K10 and I see him posting on how he doesn't want to touch the sliders lol. NBA Live improves it's rebounding/ball physics/animations and it's looked at as a positive improvement; 2K doesn't benefit from already being there. Differing expectations, games held to different standards.

Out of the box, yeah I'd have to agree.

Getting to the paint is very simple unlike some other game.

Smh...7.0 is a bit too low imo.

They didn't mention Association mode at all and they didn't mention the presentation aspect (NBA Today) or anything like that at all. Nor the oodles of player customization options, instead citing the game for lacking depth.

While I definately think the game deserves a better score because it plays the most convincing game of basketball of any before it...I think the review was pretty well done and objective. The fact is that games should not get high scores when they have glaring issues that suggest they are unfinished or that they lack polish....no matter how good the core gameplay is. With interior defense and a framerate fix this review would surely have been a high 8 or 9.

How can this be lower than NBA Live 10. I use to own Live 10 sold it and bought 2K10. No way should Live be rated higher.

Gamespot actually does the game a HUGE favor....2k10 out of the box does not play like a 7.....its actually more like a 5.5. I may have to actually blog about this one....I don't understand why people are upset......the level of bugs and problems in this game are very disappointing.

I am what most would consider a 2k fanboy, but I think a 7.0 is generous. This game does not have a single game mode or feature that works properly, it's the most bugged game maybe ever released.

To everyone who says"wait for the patch", well this review is not based on a patch nor should it be. I am surprised 2k has not done more damage control and made a public apology to the fans who consistently make there games #1, I am willing to bet it won't be next year. 2k might be the better game in a month or even later but I would rather play a Live game that somehow defense is much better, online is smooth and has very few bugs then have my game crashing all the time, unplayable online, Association has to many bugs etc...

It's time for people to quit defending a product as a "fanboy" and start getting upset as a "customer" who has clearly been duped and lied to. Not to mention still has not heard any apology or hear 2k take responsibility for what is clearly a bugged game. Instead they get upset when we complain and act like they are doing us a favor to get a patch out quickly.

Agreed 7 is generous for 2k10 out of the box.

"Out the box" must be the new catch phrase for this year. I can care less how good the game is out the box, if they give you millions of editable options like 2k10. Name a sports game current gen that plays great out the box. Please don't say that other basketball game, because that game needs just as much if not more tweeking.
