How to Avoid Contact animations in the Paint(2K10)

As we all know in 2K10, the patch introduced contact in the paint. If you move the shot stick away from the basket, over 90% of the time it will not be initiated. Instead it will be hook shots/one handed shots.

I don't know if this is a glitch or not or whether 2K will remove this feature in 2K11. I'm hoping they do. I make 80% of the shots in the paint when I use this feature. The only drawback is you don't get fouled as much.

But since 2K is saying many canned animations will be gone in 2K11, this may not be an issue.

Any others that can chime in and confirm this? I pretty much can after months of playing this game.

Ya I hate this animation so much, it's so unrealistic, too effective and the CPU abuses this move esp the bigman in the paint. Maybe in the 80s the hook-shot, one hand shot over the head was popular but in Today's NBA, no one uses these moves anymore. I hope they remove this animation in 2K11.

But you can confirm moving the shot stick away from the basket avoids contact animations right? I agree in today's NBA these animations are rarely used but maybe they should keep it only for historic teams in 2K11?

But I guess that would be hard to program.

In a way, yes since the players are doing hook-shots or putting shots over the head and not going into the body of their defenders. BTW if 2K plans on leaving this animation in future games, I would recommend them to at least add a gather animation b4 the hook-shot/over the head shot is attempted. There are too many times that the guard dribbler would penetrate and dish it off to one of the big man in the paint for an easy 2 using those unrealistic hook shots that they get off instantly.

Agree. Also big man defenders in the paint should put their arms straight up. This occurs all the time in the NBA.

I hate that sooo much I know a guy and that's ALL he does, ill be putting 100% into my game trying so hard getting off high % shots, just for him to run down court and score in 2 secs like nothing,

            You can't stop it.
I hate when people say "LOL" Ok you was just about to say what I said, it might have been funny to you but I know it didn't make you "LAUGH OUT LOUD". IDK maybe Im just sick of people using it at the end of EVERY sentence.

Does this work with post moves? Or just off a pass from another player? Or both? Need to go test this out.

Yes it works with post moves. As well as in the paint facing towards the basket.

Such as spin and move shot stick away from basket, they will do a one-handed flip shot. Or the dropstep/stepthrough.

As long as its not the backing down animation in the post, all the post moves work.

in real life people fade more away from the beasket to get a easier shot so i think if we press the shot stick away the basket we do a fade basket but junky players are not gonna make those shots and better players will

Even when I pull away from the basket to try to do a fade, I somehow get magically sucked into the defender. When in post position I have no problem doing fade shots and hook shots. I just hate the animations that force contact even though your momentum is trying to avoid it.

How far away from the basket are you? This only work in the paint or very near the paint(baseline area for example). Also, holding turbo while moving the shot stick away from the basket can sometimes initiate contact in the paint.

Another reason could be you are moving the left stick while moving the right stick away from the basket. This should not be an issue. Although if you are also using turbo, contact in the paint can be initiated.

Generally fade-away shots don't work very well in the paint. They work well outside the paint. Because when I move the shot stick away while moving near the paint, I do either a leaner or a runner.

dont always go for a dunk, layups are a sure shot avoid it...also if u want to attempt a shot and avoid the contact, hold the direction ur running (left of right) so u can do a drifter.

This does not work as much as you say it does, unless you are stationary, while in motion you will get contact most of the time.

If you use turbo it will not work. Again moving the shot stick away from the basket doesn't always equal moving it down. It depends on where you are on the court relative to the basket.

For me it works 90% of the time with a chance of making it over 80%.
