How hard is playing Center? I am thinking of starting another My Player. The last time I tried Center it was difficult, especially on defense.
I am thinking of making a 7'2 Center. I will am trying to mainly be a post-up scorer, rebounder, and blocker. I might be an All-around Center. I am aboujt to start it now. I will only play 5 min quarters. I will work on vertical, block, lo post and shoot from low post

Re: Your Myplayer Career (NBA 2K11)

          Hey guys

I'm not much of a basketball player in real life, and I don't watch so much NBA since I live in Norway, but I love playing NBA 2k11.
I was wondering if some of you guys that actually follow NBA can help me a little.
I play a 7'0 SF, my overall rating is 51 and I got my Medium shot to 95, vertical 80, shot in traffic 85 and shoot off dribble 86, i'm working on my consistency right now.
I was drafted 22nd in the 1 round by the Timberwolves but I quickly realized what the commentator meant by that Timberwolves are a struggling team, they did shine at times but very often they lost the game when I was subbed, which btw is very very annoying! Anyways I requested a trade and got traded to the Warriors, which I feel is kind of a good team since Ellis and Curry help out with some 3 pointers.
I finally started my first game against the Rockets and here is something I wonder, is Yao Ming really THAT dominant in the NBA?
We went into overtime after we were down 60-58 and I set a screen for Ellis who sinked and easy 2 point, but so far (I play with 5 min quarters) Yao has scored 34 points, 17 rebounds and 13 blocks, and yeah I know he's BIG so he has an advantage, but this guy sinks just about every shot he takes without a problem
Also I have another question, at times when we get the fastbreak I get the ball and I see a defender in my way, so I try to get out towards the 3 point line to get away and get an open shot, but when I press the shoot button my player suddenly in lightspeed has turned 180 degrees, driving towards the basket and tries a Julius Erving layup, why is that?
And sometimes (sorry like I said I don't watch much NBA so I don't know what everything is called) when i'm just outside of that big square, where the free throw line is, and where you can get called for offensive/defensive 3 seconds, I have a player guarding me and there's 1 guy protecting the basket for rebounds, so I try to take a shot, but instead my player tries to do this f***** layup where he jumps and makes a U motion, not literally the letter, but if you picture the motion starting at the top, goes down and then up again before he releases the ball, and every single time he misses and I get a bad shot selection call
Does anyone have some tips on how to defend a player because it seems like they just ghost past me, I try to follow them but sometimes they run towards the ballhandler, they get the ball and the just turn and run right past me without my player doing anything to stop them.
And how does that thing that points what player to guard work? For example I play the Lakers and I play as a SF, but the thing shows for me to guard Kobe and I do, and suddenly Artest get's free of the guy guarding him, he runs out and get's the ball from Kobe and suddenly it shows that I have to guard Artest instead, but since he's so far away it's impossible for me to get to him to stop him and he sinks a shot and I get the allow man to score call
Also why do my teammates and my player sometimes make stupid passes, just recently I got a rebound and I saw Lee running for a cherrypick, so I try to pass the ball to him but instead of getting some height to the pass my player just tosses it straight forward where an opponent just put's his hand out and stops the ball, and before that I was on the outside of the line and tried to get in but the guy guarding me stopped me so I tried to go back outside, and suddenly when there's that guy guarding me, and Yao Ming between me and the basket, Ellis tries to pass between the guy and Yao and my player suddenly by himself runs towards the basket to catch the pass but it get's stopped by Yao
My last question, is there some way to get traded to the team I want?
I want to go to the Lakers, I had one My Player who was a SG, I got my rating up to 85 after the first season but I forgot that Kobe plays the same position and I doubt that the Lakers would ever try to get me, so I started a new with an all around SF since I found out it has more skill total, and like I wrote I got drafted by the Timberwolves but I wanted a trade and saw that the Lakers wanted me, and only the Lakers, but still I got drafted to the Warriors, and again the Lakers are interested in me but i'm a bit afraid that I will get traded to a lower team since it's going pretty well with the Warriors, is there some way to get traded to the Lakers now or should I just wait until the season ends and hope that the Lakers want to sign me then?

          Thanks in advance

it can be alot of fun and really frustrating at the same time.

i have an athletic center that i focus mostly on blocks and rebounds. i get all of my points from putbacks and the occasional fast break.

expect to set lots of picks to get that teammate grade up quickly.

expect some frustration when your teammates wont pass you the ball in good situations or the computer decides to jack up some bad shots. you'll be responsible for chasing down all those rebounds from your teams poor shooting.

besides that, playing center can be alot of fun. its very different from a pg/sg b/c you dont get the ball in your hands and you hardly take shots outside of like 5 ft.

Regarding your last question about joining the Lakers, at the end of the season you have the choice of staying with your current team, or resigning with any of the teams that you requested a trade to. So if you at one point requested a trade to LA, then you can easily go there after the playoffs.

Yao in real life is actually pretty darn good when he is healthy. In 2k11 they make him pretty unstoppable. there are a couple threads on OS that talk about different ways to try and stop him. try using the search and you should be able to find a few threads

not sure about that one, maybe someone else knows what your talking about.
it could have todo with where you are in relation to the court and where your moving that triggers different animations. if your running full speed and your momentum is going towards the hoop and press your shoot stick, the momentum could carry you into the lay up motion.

what i do on the fastbreak, if i want to pull up and shoot a J is use the hop-step to clear space to make sure i shoot a jumper instead of trigger the layup animation

are you talking about a double clutch shot? not sure what U motion your referring too

the big box on the ground near the free throw line is the key. you want to avoid sitting inside of it too long.

sometimes its unavoidable. i usually just try to stick to my man. if i'm a SF and i know that artest is the opposite teams SF, i'll always go to him 1st. thats probably the safest way for now. eventually through playing you'll learn who your supposed to be assigned to guard in transition

sometimes the passing on 2k11 doesnt make sense. sometimes you'll get a bounce pass when you dont want one. sometimes they'll float a pass when you want a bullet.

the only suggestions i have is to you use passing icons when passing and turn on total control passing so that you can try and lead the players to open spaces. you'll get the occasional bad pass but all you can try to do is minimize them. make sure you have good passing lanes when trying to make a pass also

haha, as far as i know there isnt a way to get traded to a specific team. even if the team is interested in you, its still kind of random where you end up.

what i did was create two save files of my current game. then request a trade on one of them and see where i get traded. if i like it, i'll keep the save, if not, i'll go back to my original save file

hope that helps w/ your questions

Re: Your Myplayer Career (NBA 2K11)

Yeah it's kinda hard to explain, I could try and film it next time it happens and upload it, but the best way I can explain is like I said, he jumps and instead of taking a shot he makes that layup move, he swings the arm with the ball down and then up, kinda like a half circle if that makes any sense, and it ends up with my player trying to toss the ball up from chest height when standing and usually I either get blocked (most of the time) or he misses the shot which gives me the bad shot selection notice, like I wrote I don't watch a lot of NBA since I live in Norway so I don't know all the phrases, could be that double clutch shot your talking about but I really can't say for sure, hope my explanation helped
About the Julius Erving shot, I run straight towards the key, but a defender stands there to try and stop me so I run to the side, either left or right depending which side I come from, but anyway as I get away from my opponent my player is basically facing towards the corner of the field and is turned away from the basket so he usually turns towards the basket as he jumps for the shot, but sometimes he suddenly turns 180 degrees and drives towards the basket even though i'm like 2 metres away from the Key and he takes that Julius Erving layup where he comes under the basket.
Thanks for the Yao Ming help, although I don't guard him since I play as an SF he at times seems better then Kobe even though Kobe outranks him by at least 15 overall, and it kinda felt unrealistic that he makes just about every shot he takes even when he's double teamed or when I at times help out by trying to block him when I see he's going for a shot and I get that good shot defence notice

i started a myplayer with blazer's 1990-2000 rosters and it's great. I edited my player so that I would be like a 86 overall. I got drafted by the Spurs and I'm playing with Tim Dunkin and David Robinson. In my first game we played against the Pacers with Reggie Miller, Jalen Rose, Chris Mullin etc. Miller lit it up with like 25 points but we still won by ten points. Should be a fun time.

Yeah My Player mode is really fun, it takes some time to get your stats up though, at first when I started an earlier save I thought it would take forever to get my stats up really high but after 1 season I got my player up to 85 overall.
It was fun with me being drafted by the Blazers, then traded to the Bucks and I helped them get the best overall record with 23-17 but I hated Jennings cause he would always shoot himself instead of passing so I asked for a trade and got traded to the Nuggets who were one of the worst teams in the conference but we barely made it to the playoffs and ended up winning the title with me being named MVP
But I started a new player now

After 5 games(Combine and 2 Training games), you're right on. It can be fun and frustrating.
Pros. Rebounding is very easy. A lot of picks are going to happen. Blocking. Posting up.
Cons- Low post defense is kinda broken. You start off way to low. Dont get the ball way often and if I call for a pass I will lose teammate grade.
I chose an All-around Center. It starts off way too low, but has high ceiling. Dunk, Standing Dunk, Rebound, Strength is too low starting out, I know All-round starts low for every position, but come on. I dont care how low they want to start you off at, but there is no way a Center comes in at 30 strength(5 more than a PG). He would get harassed all night. After I get my Shot low Post, Block, Strength, Standing Dunk, and Shot Inside up, It should get very fun.
I got drafted to the Timberwolves. A lot of rookies after pick 5 either got drafted higher than they was in real life or drafted to another team. Gordon Heyward and Avery Bradley got drafted in the first round. Unknown players get drafted in the first round. Bledsoe and a few others got drafted to different teams, he got drafted by Thunder.
I will most likely stay with team if they dont have an elite or up and coming young center

I have another question, I just tried a layup while a guy was guarding me and I fell over him and got my shoulder seperated but I got 2 free throws, and I hit the first free throw but suddenly I get substituted before I can shoot my second free throw, how is that possible? And is it possible for someone else to shoot my free throw?

dammit...i got 14 assists during my last game of the season so i got the 14.9apg average rather than the 15 for the season(my average for the last 3 seasons)

oh well...still averaged close to the same as the last 3 seasons in scoring(30.7ppg), rebounding(12.6rpg), steals(5spg) and blocks(0.6bpg).

suffice it to say i simulated the playoffs...

                                round 1: spurs(4-0)
                                round 2: warriors(4-3)
                                round 3: grizzlies(4-3)
                                finals: bulls(4-3)

met the bulls in last season's nba finals too...it's like a new rivalry between the two franchises...my current team vs. the team that drafted me....my player vs. derrick rose...

                                milestones this season:
                                -got my 5th nba championship
                                -10,000 career points
                                -5,000 career assists

                                accomplishments:
                                -scoring leader: 4x
                                -rebounding leader: 4x
                                -assist leader: 5x
                                -steal leader: 4x
                                -all-nba 1st team: 5x
                                -all-defensive 1st team: 4x
                                -mvp: 5x
-defensive player of the year: 4x

im proud to say that i got demarcus cousins(1st appearance), kevin love(1st appearance) and tyreke evans into the all-star game....demarcus cousins is the new league leader in blocks and tyreke evans led the league in minutes played for the second time...

kevin love didnt quite get 10rpg(last season) but had 9.2rpg due to the emergence of demarcus cousins and the minutes alloted to cousins(33 minutes compared to 9 minutes last season) who had 7rpg himself this season...***doesnt help that i also eat the glass with 12.6rpg for my own player....

andre padgett...my cpu generated starting SF was in the mix for most improved player but didnt quite win it...he averaged a good 13ppg or so

so after the playoffs...i thought tim duncan would retire(even mentioned on the news/headlines during the regular season) after he got his 6th ring but nope...he signed with denver along with my backup PG/sixth man christain joseph(cpu generated)

we acquired ted scott(cpu generated) from the warriors and drafted a few more players at the SF and PF positions

caron butler is still on my team and is still listed in the trade rumor...please move him

coach gregg popovich somehow didnt stay with my team even though he won coach of the year...he's now with the jazz while i have a new coach in matthew hammond or something

also, they didnt even bother asking what players i wanted during the off-season when i chose to re-sign with the kings....maybe because my salary cap was in the negative(-$22M or something, not even sure how that's possible)

                                retired players/hall of fame 2015:
-kobe bryant(lakers didnt make the playoffs for the first time this season, they lost phil jackson a long time ago)
                                -tracy mcgrady
                                -dirk nowitzki

                                notable transactions in the offseason:
                                -chris bosh - bulls
                                -tony parker - hawks
                                -carlos boozer - hornets
-kevin durant - heat(i knew his contract was up but WTF?)
                                -j.r. smith - raptors
                                -tyrus thomas - spurs

anyway...on to my 6th season and looking for a three-peat with the kings for my 6th championship ring

                                upcoming milestone:
                                -5x all-star selection

                                remaining milestone:
                                -500 games played(7th season)
                                -1000 games played(crazy)
                                -7500 career assists(7th season)
                                -2500 career steals(crazy)
                                -20,000 career points(crazy)
                                -30,000 career points(crazy)
                                -38,388 career points(crazy)

if you read this whole thing(crazy)
