In my opinion the Oklahoma City Thunder match your prerequisites, but it wouldn't be challenging. So if you're looking for a young team that still needs a lot of work and building, OKC would be rather easy.

Sacramento has a bunch of young promising talent, but are still some odd years away, which would be an ideal team to use as well.

Some other teams with solid young talent would be, NJ Nets, LA Clippers, Washington Wizards, GS Warriors, and Memphis Grizzlies.

definitely the Milwaukee Bucks, they have Brandon Jennings, Larry Sanders, Gallon and Hobson for young guys to buildup, they have a good power presence down in the middle with Bogut a great defender in Mbah A Moute, maggette, delfino coming off the bench, ilyasova is a good up and coming 4 that can shoot lights out if he gets hot, salmons is just plain nasty, and you got a lot of cap opening up after the season once you get rid of michael redd, cant wait to run with the bucks this year

I'd say the Clippers. OKC is already too close to championship level IMO. I know they were only 8th seed last year but I'm expecting a huge jump this year.

The Blazers are a good place to start I think.

Solidly middle of the pack, good young talent, lots of flexibility to make moves.

Raptors, going to sign Iverson, trade some PG or SG on this team for a true 5, develop Bargarni to next Dirk, Derozen to next Carter~

                  Sacramento Kings, to be sure!

They have a great couple of building blocks in 'Reke and Cousins (at arguably the two toughest positions to fill), so I'm going to make it my priority to find a sharpshooter and see where it takes me.

Add to that, the fact that we don't have to carry that dead weight known as Spencer Hawes and things are definitely looking up!

(NEVER draft a 7' white guy!)

Import ALL of the older teams and play with Ewing's knicks and help pat get a ring.

                      Kings or Bucs.

                      Both have solid young cores.

I'd say the Kings because they are just a few pieces away IF their young talent reaches their potential, i'm going to use the Wizards which should be a challenge..

Definitely the raptors. even though they will probably stink it up this season, they will be a sick team to play with on this game, just because they will suck.

                            Re: Team to begin Association?

If you're looking for a challenge that will require a few seasons to get to the Finals, I'd reccomend the Nets, Bobcats, Rockets, or Warriors.

All 4 teams have really good young teams that have the players to make the playoffs, but not enough to win a ring.

If you're looking for a team to win a ring within the next season, I'd reccomend the Bulls, Thunder, Hawks, or Mavs.

All 4 teams are really good and can be a tough 4 team in the Conference, but they still need to get over the hump of beating those really good teams.

Wow, thanks for the responses guys! Don't you just love it when you post a question and by the time you're back from work you have 3 pages of replies ... Gotta love the OS community

I am hoping to get into the NBA more this year now as living in the UK has always meant a limited availability for games to watch, but I have now got ESPN America - mainly for the Football admittedly - but I also love watching Baseball, Hockey and Basketball. Now I just have to wait for 2K11 to arrive and I'm sorted!
