Re: 2k and Relationships
This is an hilarious thread - I love reading about how everyone's significant others feel about them playing video games, LOL. It's nice to know we are not alone, that's for sure.
My wife is 100% cool with my video game playing and never, ever gives me a hard time about it. I can pretty much play whenever I want for however long I want, but I do my best not to take advantage of that. Luckily, she really enjoys reading so when I'm playing PS3, she's on the couch next to me with a book or doing something else around the house.
For you unmarried guys, before my girlfriend became my wife, she would always make fun of me for playing video games - especially staying in on a Friday night or Saturday night to do so when she went out with her girls. But the thing I said to her was, would you rather me going out to the bars with the guys and getting drunk knowing there are a bunch of girls around, or would you rather me have the guys over to sit around, eat pizza and play video games? I think after I said that, she kind of got it. There are so many more worse things that you can be doing than playing video games.
My advice to the OP would be to put your foot down a little bit. And that's not me trying to be a tough guy, but if your girlfriend isn't going to let you be yourself, it's only going to get worse. And that's not to say that compromise isn't important, because it's one of the most important aspects of any relationship. But, it sounds like you're the one that has to do all of the compromising just to avoid an argument, and that isn't cool.Comment

seems like there is starting to be alil too much macheesmo comin into these responses....because its easy to say how you run things over the boards...atleast we know he's somewhat honest..how bad it is only he knows...
look im the rooster of my house but even i once had a fallin out w/ my lady over the game...dont know why she went that route but she did and it almost ended our relationship because i wasnt giving gaming up and she was bent on it at the time....
what specifically won out in the end i dont know.....but im still gaming till my hearts content...and she's still ridin.....
to the OP,
part of being a good general is knowing how to avoid wars and maintaining the peace..so i get that, however the only thing i would fault you 4 is lying...if you gonna do it, ten do it...if you worried about the problems it might cause then dont do it..but dont lie about it...
im sure you could have work it out to get the game w/o lying to her about it...because im sure you dont want her lying to you about her shopping, etc
i dont know if you need a new girl or not maybe you do, maybe you dont....shoot, i almost did....but ppl actn like they dont be having fallouts w/ they girls is laughable...maybe not over video games..but over something and your particular reason isnt anymore respectable than his issues
so to belittle his particualr hangup with his chick...has me questioning a few of the responses validity

Re: 2k and Relationships
My wife hates games and lets me know it all the time. She is letting me get 2k11 for my yearly purchase (no jokes). I might be able to sneak in some cheap buys though, if I have been good enough.
I am limited to 1 hour of playing a game a day. I typically play the game for a couple months then lay off it for a couple months so I don't really have issues with my wife since I really only play an hour or so on every game.GT: Event Horizon 0Comment

Re: 2k and Relationships
My wife don't care how many games I get or play. She knows I would rather spend my time at home playing video games or playing with my kids than out running around or anythings else. She knows I enjoy them so she has no problem with it.“Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.”

Re: 2k and Relationships
my wife is fickle ...lol one minute she don't mind me playing the game then the next she says all I do is play the game....(sometimes I can't win)...lol
so what she does now is try to get to the main tv( now mind you we have two TVS...) before I do so I can't just start up the game I have to wait till she is either gone or getting ready to go to sleep...lol fellas you know how it is..she wants to cuddle on the couch, I just wait patiently and the first snore I hear it's me and 2k time baby.!! (to make matters worse I just got a 52 inch screen tv and surround sound..OMG!!!) lol hehe
all I can say for 2k11 is that I will be needing a good lawyer, because based on what I see....it don't look good for my wife at all....lol
I really believe that 2k11 is going to cause alot of separations and divorce and that dating will take a nose dive atleast for the month of october for sure....tsk....oh well more time to get my ballin on......somethings are worth it...lol I'm just kidding fellas....lol funny stuff..Last edited by jlbrown143; 10-02-2010, 11:38 AM.JambroComment

Re: 2k and Relationships
I want to hear from the married os users
My gf absolulty thinks video games are the stupides things on earth. She hates me playing them even though they are not going to cause use to break up or anything.
About a week ago i told her i was going to be getting a new game. I know we are not married yet but we have that kind of relationship were we are already making financal decisions and things like that. So when i told her she told me know i wasnt going to get it and she was serious. She spent like 20 min. talking but basically it was all no you are not getting it because i just got madden and that im not getting a game until january (yea i know we are not even married yet but when it comes to here shopping im the same way lol). But there was no way i was not going to get this game so i told her well ok im going to get a game called elite 11 in january (knowing it may not come out and she will have forgot about it by then) and until then im going to play the game i have now called nba 2k11. So she like ok thats fine. I also told her that the 2k company always puts the following year of the year the finals are played for that season so she dont get supicious when she sees 2k11. Obviusly she knows not a single thing about games except that they are a waste of time lol
Now im not whipped or whatever else you want to call me but i am smart. i did this for the sake of saving an argument for something more important like her shopping lol. But on a more serious note is this or something like this what some of you guys thats in a serious relationship or married have to go through to play video games?Comment

Re: 2k and Relationships
She's a keeper.
I'm not married and don't live w/ my gf but some of these responses are starting to worry me. How does a man become so powerless that his woman applies strict rules that limit his gaming time? 1 hour a day? WTF?
Glad I'm not married...Comment

Re: 2k and Relationships
I am 24 years old,Ive had a GF for 1 year and a half ,havent really had a problem with my gaming...she understands when a new game comes out i like to sink into it a little!...I remember her telling me to keep playing Batman Arkham Asylum and brought me a Ps3 for my bday with Heavy Rain cuz she saw me pick it up in the shops and remembered how cool i thought it was!...Im Hoping it all stays good if we move out together!.
She is cool if i say id like to play my new game as long as we havent made plans i guess...and its funny i get the same nerd comments all in good nature like other dudes on this thread, even tho i get paid to play sports IRL
...But!..
I used too be with a girl who was not cool at all with games...
she hated that i played games over spending time with her...she would always pit it against me in fights saying i didnt care about her just my stupid games or sports...she would call me names like nerd, loser and lazy even tho i tried to play mostly when she went to bed(usually in a huff cuz she knew i was gonna be playing games!) It was never a money issue it was simply a time issue...
Video Games have been a massive part of my life and always will be,i broke it off with her cuz i knew she wasnt "The One" and it was never gonna work out!...i wasnt goin to enjoy my life without my video games and she wasnt gonna enjoy hers with them!...They wernt the whole reasons why we ended but they played a part!
Luckily for me my current gf couldnt give a hoot if i play,i actually got her into some DS games which she plays on and off,She still calls me a nerd tho i dont understand why?Comment
