Re: Official NBA 2K11 Impressions Thread (360, PS3)

+1 about the bump animations being overdone.

I get the idea of them trying to make it tough to attack the paint, but I shouldn't be getting stopped dead in my tracks every time I walk into someone.

I'm also not liking the delay when you're in the paint and attempt a shot in some instances. I dunno if this is in to tone down the PiP and give the defense time to recover or what but it's annoying.

With that said, game is still amazing. I managed to beat Miami last night on a perfectly executed Ray Allen 12 curl(I think that's what it's called). The whole sequence was pure Celtics getting Ray Ray open for a shot.

In game I'm playing now versus New Orleans, they have thrown 2 full court passes and connected for easy layups with defenders down there! Anyone else seeing this??

The last one just happened was thrown my Aaron Gray off a rebound he grabbed. He then tossed in FULL COURT down underneath other basket to Ariza for a dunk! I had 2 guys downcourt with him. Turned Cpu Pass Accuracy down to 40 now and see if this helps. Def something that needs to be patched however.

EDIT: Just had another from Paul to West(fullcourt) Granted he was open this time but thats ridiculous imo... It was almost a full court alleu oop! Hate to lower pass accuracy down lower but I'm gonna have to do something until it's patched. Anyone seeing this?!?<!-- / message -->

You really need space to operate in 2k11
see you put it that way, and it makes me want to adjust myself and play again and fix this aggravation that I feel.

So I just played another half and I dont know theres just something that makes my blood boil in this game. Its like I know what I want to do, but I just cant do it. Dwight turns the ball over everytime hes not under the basket for a catch and quick move, none of my perimeter players can get to the basket. I still just feel like whatever player im controlling at the time is so "twitchy" and can't move because of the motion detection. I dont know how to explain my experience...like when I lose in mlb the show (even say give up 5 runs in the 1st) which still happens now and again to me something about it feels like its legit. For whatever reason I dont feel like that with 2k. Im probably the only one, but I take my previous half game I just played...I get down 18-6 in the first 5 minutes with orlando vs dallas and it just doesnt "feel" like I should be authentically losing the way I am.

ie: when I get an offensive rebound, I want to be able to kick it out to my point guard, but nope stolen everytime. I want to be able to move around without stop and go stumbling of motion detection...now im not saying I want to be able to get past my defender or get into the lane everytime, but this motion detection just feels off to me, like I cant move once I get into the halfcourt set. Like even trying to get to the "circle" to start my play it feels glitchy and like its not coordinated smoothly.

maybe I just need to give it time. im probably just to use to 2k10 and being able to generate scoring without calling plays in the halfcourt set.

I love the blocks though. I also love that they have more putback tips when in traffic.

Right now, that is my biggest problem with the game is dealing with the ball deflections. A majority is my fault though as I am used to just passing it across in 2K8 without worrying about the defense. Can't do that in this game. However, there are times where they seem to have this psychic D where they fly across and steal the ball. It can be a bit annoying.

Another thing is the FG%. Seems a bit low but I might bump up the sliders for that. Currently playing on Pro Simulation. Other than that though, I f'ing love this game. Coming from 2K8, they have done such a great job. It just feels like basketball. Larry Legend is a beast and the old school teams are my new obsession. I would gladly pay DLC for more teams, arenas, etc. This game just feels right.

It comes down to this. If you even remotely enjoy 2K basketball or just love the game of basketball in general, buy it. You will not be disappointed. There really is so much ish to do in this game.

            Nothing but love.

I could be just trying to get just from the three point baseline to the top of the key and I get bumped and am in stop and go animation the entire way. Forget even trying to drive in, its like your running into a brick wall even when I have bibby guarding carter. Granite I have only used orlando and carter is slow, but I feel like I have no control over my players individually, they just get stuck in the collision detection animation anytime I try to move forward and for the most part to the side. I guess like others said im just gonna have to get use to running plays every trip down which im not use to doing.
use the simple "quick crossover" to get by people.

to do it: hold turbo, move to the left, then breifly touch the left trigger and quickly move right and your player will do a quick crossover...the defender's momentum usually freezes him for a moment so you can blow by. this simple crossover is way more effective than the spin move and behind the back move.

I turned Hands and play passing lanes to ZERO for the Cpu and they still defelct passes if they are bad passes. I'm not great at this so this was a must!

I also play on Pro/Sim, and moved shot shot success up to 55 for inside, close, mid, and 3pt for both user and cpu. Played game with these and beat Hornets with the Nuggets 107-99 and played extremely well with very realistic stats!

you have to take advantage of all the tools...use the sizeup dribbles, crossovers, etc. to get by people. you can't just run straight into the paint - this game is like real life...you usually don't see point guards running inside for uncontested layups in the NBA. there are always defenders lurking around. you can't play this game using just one player to dominate the ball...drive inside with one player, then when the defenders come to you, use icon lead passing to dish it off to an open teammate. also, use lots of pick and rolls to get space.

i know right..lol also if you press turbo and triangle you can do putback dunks too....

Magicbucs.....it sounds like you are not comfortable with the different animations and button controls.(I could be wrong) we all have to remember that this years game is not last years game...we have to play to our teams strengths, most big men will lose the ball down in the paint area if they dribble too much and you have to make sure that you have a clear path to pass to your team mates this year or it will get intercepted or deflected...that's why I think Total passing will help us alot this year, of all the games I have played I have not done really any of the passes that MIke Wang talked about in his insight....I had to turn Total passing on in the controller settings...I haven't really had alot of time to play with it yet , but I can bet having it on will make a world of difference when I play next time....go to the practice section and practice the plays and different passes...(just sayin) get used to the new control scheme and collisions.....(patience danielson...lol (karate kid)..lol

use icon lead passing to angle your receivers to better passing angles so the ball doesn't get tipped. this works for me every time...i almost never turn the ball over with icon lead passing.

Yeah, this is exactly where I am. Really bad at the game so I might have to slowly jump in the flow of things. But for now, I am just going to leave the sliders the way they are and learn to play the game. One of the reasons why I stopped playing sports games is because messing around with the sliders ruined my fun. With this year, I can just set it to Sim, maybe bump up shot success and be done.

                        Too good.

Yeah, it is something that I need to learn/do better. Last night, I just wanted to hop on and play with the old school teams lol. Tonight, I plan to mess around with actually learning the game.

if i were you i would switch to default until u get the controls down like i did. then move over to sim it will save alot of frustration. This game takes no survivors on the more difficult modes and will pick and inexperienced player apart.

this game incorporates the custom arena music even better this year

Like even trying to get to the "circle" to start my play it feels glitchy and like its not coordinated smoothly.

maybe I just need to give it time. im probably just to use to 2k10 and being able to generate scoring without calling plays in the halfcourt set.
Trust me just go down one level and you will start to enjoy the game then once you can see all the angles move back up.
